Tragedy Averted

  • Charges were pending early Tuesday after a man disarmed a Chicago Police sergeant and held the gun to his abdomen on the Southeast Side.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday at 8132 S. Colfax Ave. Police News Affairs Deputy Director Pat Camden said. The two officers and the sergeant, all in uniform, were in an unmarked police car when they saw the man driving a Toyota Corolla that had been reported stolen, with license plates from the state of Washington, Camden said.

The officers approached the man and began handcuffing him when he began resisting, Camden said. The sergeant attempted to assist the officers when the suspect grabbed his service gun, according to Camden.
Why this ass is still alive and not dirt napping is beyond our comprehension, but we're still glad no cops got hurt in what could have been a very bad situation.

UPDATE: We didn't second guess anyone. Jeez. Someone in the comments section said it best - they don't give medals for coming back with unexpended rounds. We just stated our opinion (as we have in dozens of other threads) that anyone who shoots at the police or points a gun at the police or generally puts the police in mortal danger ought to be killed as a matter of course. We're sorry everyone here doesn't agree with us - but we know quite a few who do, especially old time coppers and bosses we respect. Back in the day, CPD were trained to advance after firing and empty their gun into the head of the offender. Cover and movement are a recent introduction - and a good one as it saves the lives of officers. But talk to an old retired cop one day and see how much things have changed.

This p.o.s. gets the sarge's gun, sticks the barrel into his stomach below the vest, while the sarge is holding onto the slide for his life...offender shot once, life apparently saved by the miracle workers at Christ....

SCC: I like the site and usually agree with most of what you say, and I know that your intentions are good, but please don't make statements like "why is this ass still alive and not dirt napping" just remember that you wern't there and don't know exactly why this guy wasn't shot. (maybe he surrendered, maybe they couldn't get a clear shot, maybe too many people were around) So please don't monday morning quarterback this incident. And yes, I have been involved in incidents like this in the past.

Am really glad that the officers weren't hurt but felt bad that the offender is still breathing. But hopefully not in one piece. I bet nobody will ever touch the sgt's gun from now own not even look at it. . . . maybe being too complacent . . . . be carefull sir . . . scare the shit out of you I bet!

Wasn't the tip-off that the offender was pouring gasoline on the inside of the car?

Glad the good guys were not hurt.

Instead of writing blogs and second gueesing their actions, go out and do some police work. I know it can be scary at times. What a piece of work you are at times.

They don't give medals for coming back with ammunition. Someone grabs my gun or my partner's gun, they aren't making it as far as a hospital. Empty the gun and reload.

What happened to his safety holster, I know it is not cool when you are on tact to wear a safety holster. But look at what can happen. Many of you don't remember P.O. Campbell a great guy and Officer but he was killed when an unarmed offender took his gun out of his shoulder holster. I know safety holsters don't look cool but they work. Stay safe and God Bless.

If the offender would have been shot in 009--he WOULD be "dirt napping!" 009 District is somewhat notorious for "over indulging" in police shoot-outs!!! Been there...Done That...Long ago..009 on Days! If he would've tried that crap in Bridgeport, Roy's boys would have made him look like a cross between tomato paste and swiss cheese!!!

He's still alive because you werent there. You must be the greatest cop alive. Even recruits are taught not to second guess a police shooting/non-shooting yet you do it in the public eye. What a GOOF !! Glad you WORKING coppers are OK.

009 is not that busy and for that matter, Roy has some of the MOST cowardly coppers in his district. There were never any notorious police shoot-outs in Bridgeport! Ask any REAL POLICE Southside copper working in 009 and they will tell you the same. Don't know what you did on days in 009, but I can guarantee that you were either CAPS office or a house mouse who never worked the street? Betcha you told lots of heroic stories to the Irish broads in Dugan's trying to get laid? Trust me pal, those gals have heard enough bs from the TRU and SOS boys that you aren't even getting a foot in the door! Get a life dork! You're just another "SOS wannabe" trying to look important on this blog.

Don't let the clown above rattle your cage! You 009 cops aren't that bad. You just believe you all are the best and that nobody compares to you in status. Calm down the tough guy act in 009 and you will receive respect.

009 has its moments just like any other district in the city. I don't know why people feel like they are the "real" police because they work in a certain disrict or unit. We work in the city and something can go wrong any time, any place (yes, even 016). Remember stay safe and back each other up.

Cowards? Hmmm...Heard Ol' Roy Boy doesn't trust his coppers? "Activity Busting"= Same tactic he used in 021--Any truth to Roy having his secretary post all POs' and Gang officers' activity in the roll call room? Talk about Big Brother watching you. Suckers!
-Not in 009

Real Story: Two Tact guys and a Sgt. riding three deep. See s...bag filling up stolen car with gas from a gas can. Computer check says stolen. S...bag is very composed and says the car was his girlfriends. S...bag complies with P.O.s order to put hands behind his back, they get one cuff on, then the fight is on. Sgt. comes to the rescue only to have his gun taken from his holster durring the fight. Sgt. falls onto s...bag who is holding the sgt's gun under his vest and into his stomach. Sgt informs partners of situation, one of the P.O.s lets go and draws weapon. Sgt and second P.O. are still fighting offender. P.O. takes a very difficult shot while everyone is still wrestling around. Once shot bad guy dropps the Sgt's gun and runs. Officers composes themselves and give chase. They find the s...bag bleeding in a bush. So do the homeowner and his wife. No oprotunity to finsh the job. The bad guy did not die. Rumors that the offender fired the Sgt's gun are false. Everyone involved did a great job, and I thank God that the police were not injured!!!

Yeah that's correct. The stats are posted in the roll call room. How about the 15 or so dignitary checks that are conducted around the clock.Lots of judges and former heavy people. What a waste of manpower.
