SCC Review of 2006

Back on 01 January 2006, we made a number of bold and far reaching predictions.

OK, maybe they weren't that bold. And we restricted ourselves to things we like to think we know about. Ah, arrogance. And since we're bored and it's a slow news day, we're going to review our predictions and see how well we did.
  • Politics - Local - We predicted more indictments for Daley's machine and we were right on! Unfortunately, as far as we can tell, no one from the inner circle has cracked. [1 of 2 correct]
  • Politics - State - Ryan was convicted - Hooray! Even though some knucklehead of a judge is letting him stay out on bond, we're still taking credit for this one [1 for 1]
  • Politics - National and International - Scooter and Delay haven't gone to trial yet, so we'll hold these aside. We were dead wrong on the Senate loses and House shift. We were wrong about the President's poll numbers. We did manage to predict Zarqawi's death and bin Laden hasn't been seen in a year. Though the media isn't covering it on the front pages, Iran and China are killing thousands of their own citizens. Iraq isn't as bad as reported, but worse than it ought to be and casualties are DOWN from last year. Syria is trembling, not crumbling, and war is coming to the MidEast again. Europe falters [call this 3 out of 8 with 2 held aside - our worst category]
  • Sports - We got 4 out of 5 on this one, our lone mistake being that the Sox would repeat. Damn those Sox!
  • Department - Starks outlasted our prediction out of pure spite we think. That's why we're re-predicting it - pure spite. We guessed at a new Lieutenant's test being offered and the Department surprised us by springing a Sergeant's test before they even promoted 400 off of the old list. We also didn't know they'd be stretching the test out over two separate years. We were dead on about the federal monitor Brennan not changing a thing, though she did issue criticism of the city. [we'll call it 2 out of 3]
  • General - The economy is healthier than it's been in decades; Hollywood hasn't released numbers yet, but we hear they aren't going to stop making movies; General Motors lost money and will be behind Toyota this year in manufacturing automobiles - they're still listed on the Dow though. Tookie is still dead and Hoffa is still be missing but he's been in the news a lot this year. SecondCityCop.Blogpsot didn't just pass a million page views - we passed THREE MILLION around noon yesterday. John Kass ignored us, but Mark Brown contacted us. We continue to fly under the lofty radars of the Jackson family [5 of 8? of 9?]
All in all, a pretty good year in review.

I guess you cannot count, our economy is not doing good. Inflation is up, unemployment is up in the big cities especially, Americans are falling into poverty 3.5% more than the previous decade, more coppers have filed bankruptcy in 2005 than in the history of CPD, the foreclosure rate in the city of chicago alone is up 22%, our raise did not even cover the cost of living increase that was set by economy predicters, we are about to get our asses kicked by the Iraqis and those loyal to Sadam. I could go on, but stupidity wins on this site and I would be wasting my time.

I was hoping my prediction concerning Huberman and the Vienna Boys Choir came true, alas no such luck! There's always 2007!

1:35,

Show me some numbers regarding CPD bankrupcies being up. Otherwise you're just talking out your ass. The foreclosure rate is actually in line with the national average. Are these new loans or existing loans? Where do you get 22%? If foreclosures were that enormous then you'd hear the Republicans making a lot of noise. The banks making those foreclosures would be folding so quick that the housing prices would drop to pre-1990 levels! From what I see the housing prices have leveled and are expected to make and upturn in mid 2007. Lay-off the booze junior, it clouds your thinking!

Are you the same asshat that keeps claiming that unemployment is up in other posts? Show us where. Since you're pulling this crap out of your ass, come up with some proof of what you're saying because I call bullshit. Last week, I heard that unemployment is at an all-time low.

MY PREDICTION FOR THE YEAR 2007.
IT WILL BE REVEALED THAT SEISER KILLED DENVER FOTTBALL PLAYER DERRICK WILLIAMS. SEISER WAS MAD THAT WHILE WILLIAMS WAS VISITING CHICAGO LAST SUMMER SEISER COULD NOT ARREST HIM, LOST ALLOT OF COURT TIME. A WORD TO THE WISE, SEISER STILL RUNS IT IN 2007.

Give yourself extra credit. John Kass told a relative of mine that knows him that he or one of his "legmen" read SCC. They just can't decide how to separate fact from fiction.

Just a heads up for those of you traveling to Galena and west on US 20, there is an ISP white shirt (our equivalent anyway) who WILL write fellow coppers. He also will order the rank and file to do same if he is working a detail with them. Total jagoff, otherwise, the rest of us know and embrace professional courtesy. Stay safe.
