Another Bright F#$%ing Idea

Where does Urkel get his brain trusts? Now the sheriff is getting into it.
  • Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart is proposing some ideas to generate revenue for the county as it faces a $500 million budget deficit. The sheriff wants criminals to pay to be locked up and to foot the bill for their own medical expenses. It is an idea that is getting some support.
Um, support from whom? In what manner? Most county inmates are indigent, or have no visible means of legal support. And families certainly aren't going to be ponying up money that might already be earmarked for lawyers. This is a pipe dream. Urkel is going to be raising taxes, service charges and user fees at some point. And hopefully, a taxpayer revolt at some point will bring on the collapse of county government.

I have maintained for years that inmates should be forced to work at public works projects for their keep
Can you say chain gang?

They should also be forced to repay their victims.

My logic is that if I can be held liable for monetary damages for something I did by accident ( car accident for example) then these POS should be held liable for things that theyve done intentionally

Putting them to work paving roads, cleaning garbage, cutting grass, removing debris from rivers and streams is much better than just allowing them to play basketball and watch TV all day

Good for Tom Dart

If they were housed in Wis. they would have to pay for their transportation to the court house. Yes the prisoners have to Pay for their own transportation. Get with the times. Not everyone drops to their knees and gives these criminals everything they want. Some of these guys have a ton of money on the books. Some of these guys have a ton of money coming from the blocks that they control. I say make them pay up.

You have to have clout to do those jobs. :)
Why have it done for free by the inmates, when your childhood buddy needs a top paying job? They don't worry about saving the taxpayers any $. For Gods sake, did you get your tax bill?

Well, Dart has to do something to appease all the Irish coppers from Mt Greenwood who voted him in.

Why doesn't he just have a shamrock painted on the side of all the County Sheriff cars and shut the hell up!

It might be a pipe dream, but if we can even get a few bucks out of each inmate, like they illustrated in the original article about Kankakee county, the money generated would be enormous. How many inmates does Cook County process through each year anyway? Not all of them can be hypes and/ or homeless. But a better idea would still be to get rid of all of Urkels worthless ghost payroll workers. $170,000 to his sister-in-law? That has got to be legit.

Prison should be HARD.... Let them get up at 4am and break rocks all day.... Maybe that will deter people...

They charge inmates in some counties in Minnesota per day they are locked up. Some from $30-almost $50 a day. And....THEY GET SOME OF THE MONEY! Grant it they don't get a fraction of what is charged out, but if you don't pay, it is like a credit card bill and can't haunt you forever...I'm all for it!!!Money comes in for canteen, if you owe..GONE!!! Gotta love somethin those liberals have done up there!

No shamrocks on the side of Sheriff's cars. Were just getting rid of all of the x-cpd from Mt. Greenwood, and there were a lot of them.
