Ah Burton, You Silly Fool

  • Motorists who run stop signs would face stiffer fines and--as an intended inconvenience--be required to appear in court under a proposed crackdown advanced today by a City Council committee.

The attempt to get tough comes after complaints by aldermen that residents of their wards routinely are put in danger by drivers who roll through signs on neighborhood streets or disregard them altogether.

But you have got to love that Burton Natarus, master of the obvious:
  • "I think police want to be crime fighters," said Ald. Burton Natarus (42d), the committee's chairman. "They don't want to be traffic cops."
So, what, now we're supposed to stop enforcing the other laws so Burton can feel good about stop sign enforcement? This Department has gotten away from enforcing traffic laws because the paperwork (and potential legal liability) involved with a simple traffic stop is so onerous as to make if far more desirable to chase the one bag dope pinch. But when has logic ever dictated anything this City does?

When these alderstrokes are having stop signs put up on EVERY single corner in a residential neighborhood, people stop paying attention to them. Very understandable, in my opinion.

Anyone think, with the estimated 20,000 people who will go to court after the bill is passed. Great, now more backups and wasted manpower the city and county can not afford. Alderman go on mini crusades to have a feel good story for voters, and conclude it by clogging up the courts and wasting people's time. Sadly, Maya was hit by an idiot driver who speed threw a stop sign. Rolling stop signs (already enforced) happens, but to force officers to devote court time away from calls and go to court is devoting resouces that can be relocated to other areas.

Alderman Natarus comes up with some good ordinances... like talking on your cell phone when driving. I think it is a safety issue.
Placing diapers on the horses so that their shit is not all over the place.
But, how many of us really write a motorist a ticket for talking on their cell phones? Nevertheless, not making a complete stop at a stop sign.

Someone should pass an ordinance so that alderman can only pass three ordinances per year!

People in these residential areas request stop signs which I feel is needed. However, when the city placed stop signs on main streets such on Pratt Ave, Devon, and Fullerton. I found it to be a bother.

Side note. The police manpower is not even close to what it needs to be for a city of 3,000,000 residents and tons of people in the city from the suburbs, not to mention college students and tourist. To Patrol traffic, conduct traffic, protect citizens, and take calls. The standard answer is the city has 13,500 officers. How many are in patrol? 3,000 more cops are needed. But I bet manpower will decrease.

You want more Traffic Cops, more enforcement of traffic laws? MOVE TRAFFIC COURT TO THE AREAS / OR A NORTH AND SOUTH BRANCH. Cops don't enforce traffic because the location of traffic court is a major inconvenience. Ticket writing would increase, which would account for safer streets and more revenue. I believe the added revenue would more than pay for the added court cost and still generate additional income for the city. It's a win win

their is hardly any police on the street as it is and what little their are, they are answering backlog jobs or locking scumbags up. put the 3,000 cops on the street that we're short and maybe you'll see a difference on traffic enforcement.

Just in my little corner of Garcia Ridge the stop signs on Nottingham should be taken down nobody stops for them.

If 0812 were ever to sit on them for a little while he could write 10 in an hour.

Random Silly/stupid Idea-
100 USC for the "priviledge" to have a license in teh state of Illinois?

Oh wait what was I thinking? 812 do something? I've been to beat meetings and still havent seen a car write a ticket.

Hey why bother writing those tickets anyways. When you go to Traffic Court it gets thrown out along with the "Stick It and CLick It" citations.

I'm disappointed in ya SCC. Granted, any time a shot can be taken at Andy Rooney's younger brother it's fair game. Vi Daley of the 43rd ward is in the biggest fight for her political life. She selfishly promotes this law to get her name in the lime light. Again at the expense of an innocent life. If she really wanted to be a champion to the residents of Chicago this measure should have been pushed right after the incident. For those who may have forgotten, about May last year, a 4 year old was struck and killed by a motorist who blew a stop sign in Lincoln park. What disgusts me is that common sense would dictate action should have been taken when children are more likely to be outside, yet, it isn't until a couple of weeks before election that this alderho decides she needs to get her name out. God, how I despise this city, county and state.

SCREW 'Burt da' Squirt Natarus!
He's done more flip-flops than the Jesse White Tumblers. It's an election year and he's got a formidable opponent running vs. him this time.
You aint heard the last from his pie-hole!

I see kids almost getting run over ALL THE TIME by the stop sign at Kinzie School, no one cares. All that would happen if someone had to issue tickets is create yet one more disgruntled cop.

Some don't want to do either. However, I get the point. This is a view buy many not in law enforcement. But 20% of all officers are killed in during a traffic stop. Thanks for the support, Sir.

How about this ordinance or city rule... Alderfucks cannot serve more than 3 terms. Some just need to retire. Make a mandatory retirement age for the alderfucks! We have one, the fire department has one, and other city departments have one. Time to go out to the pasture and retire. Remember to vote and VOTE THEM OUT!!!
This is only a part-time job for most of them.
