Rumors of Swiping

Swiping in and out that is. We managed to get a hold of Department Notice #06-49 which was last updated via Facsimile Message on 01 February 2007. The Notice states that Automated Attendance and Assignment Records will become active citywide on that date. Nothing in the Order states anything about swiping in or out. It's just attempting to automate another office job so the Department will be able to put another couple cops back on the street.

We also checked around for any sort of AdminFax that might say something about swiping in and out - nothing as of yet though if the comment sections are to be believed, TRU is going to be among the first to be swiping both in and out so as to cut down on the 4 hour days they are working and the classes they are attending on company time.

Good thing we don't believe even a third of what goes up in the comments sections.

If everybody runs a magnet across the back of their ID it won't swipe!

Automated Attendance is no big deal. Instead of having the Attendance and Assignment Sheets mailed every day from Finance Division, we can now go into CLEAR and print up the daily A&A Sheets. The unit timekeeper can make changes such as, changing watches, beat numbers and car assignments. Your attendance is still marked on these sheets by hand. We were a pilot for this and have been using Automated Attendance for more than a month. There is no connection between the swipe machines and these new Automated Attendance Sheets. Do the swipe machines work, absolutely. I've seen a printout of unit members who were working on given days and did not swipe. The nightmare will come if software is ever written that would permit the swipe machines to automatically mark you present on Automated Attendance. This does not yet exist.

We have been swiping at Oec for a few years now. 4 swipe machines accessible to the blue collar workers. 1 machine is 9 mins off for almost 6 months now.
Just imagine when you install thousands of them. If you get docked (and they do dock) I'm sure you can win your grievence because somewhere in the city, someone swiped in at the same physical time you did, but wasn't late. They are not properly calibrated.

The automated A&A's mean that the watch secretary can go on line to print out the A&A's instead of them coming through the mail. They are still filled out by hand.

If we swiped in and OUT they would have to pay 1/2 hour overtime per day for lunch.

The kronos will never work for this city. It will take a team of people just to fix the missed/bad swipes on a daiel basis.

I doubt they will ever make anyone sign out, they are too cheap to pay for the overtime on those LATE arrests.

Swiping in and out are only for those units who have come under fire for some scruitney. PUNISHMENT ACTUALLY!

If TRU has to start swipping in, it is because someone had drawn attention to their unit.

However, just because one doesn't have a machine at there meeting point, you will be swipping in at a designated location.

I offer this for advice, not that I am saying you should do it, but...

If you are THAT worried about the swipe card system I have a PROVEN fix for you. Do not let others tell you that it will not work; IT DOES, and IT WILL. I know.

Run a little bead of Krazy Glue on the back of your ID Card, and swipe in while it is still fresh. You might have to do this once or twice, but it will jam up the machine, and you will be clear to do whatever it is that worried you to begin with.

It doesn't exist within the department but it does exist. My wife's company, a railroad subcontractor, has a similar system and if you want to get paid you must swipe in and out. Report is generated at the end of the work week and if you didn't swipe in or out or both, you don't get paid for that day. May not be coming soon but it is available.

As for TRU working 4 hours and leaving at 10pm, I invite anyone who thinks that to come on by and jump in with me and take a ride. See exactly which 4 hours we work. No we don't answer calls but I don't hear anyone complaining when the 0_ _th/rd district is calling a 10-1 and the only cars that show up are TRU.

too many coppers have swipe phobia. relax, all is well. it's no big deal. just swipe your card "once", it takes 2 seconds. it just shows that you worked for the day. you don't have to swipe both in and out, just in. swiping in and out would be insane, especially with all the different start times. if your card doesnt work you can manually punch in with your star # and a funtion key.

f.o.p. contract coming up. we're in deep shit again. table scraps if we're lucky.

this snow sucks. salt trucks are mia. didn't they know this shit was coming ahead of time.

hire more police dammit !@#$%^&* this major manpower shortage has got to stop.

Its a big deal to the people on the job who spend 30 years working 5 hours a day. To the rest of us unwashed serfs and slaves its no big deal at all.

Either way the Inspectors will still be sitting in the PKNG lots trying to catch us coming in at 5 mins to the hour.

Once again, there is no such thing as 4 hour days at TRU. If this were true wouln't everybody be trying to get there.

TRU has been up and running for 4 years now, and they are still used as an easy scapegoat to blame back-logs on. Low numbers in the district are no more TRU's fault than hq or anyother unit. Further, TRU does not get any more or any less benefits than anyone else, and they definitly don't get 4 hr work days and classes on company time.

Oh to have a Datacard encoder and embosser! I could make several swipe cards for myself and folks I don't like! Imagine if someone swiped you in and out several times a day? What would that do to the checks and A&A's?

Technically the city isn't tracking where you swipe out. The current Kronos machines and software aren't geared for that. Why do you think the S&S guys sit at a firehouse close to home and swipe out on time and walk in their front door 2 minutes later?

I wouldn't worry folks, the more they try to instill fear the more they fear you!

Look closely at the back of your card. It's not magnetic but optical like a barcode.

I certainly hope nobody would use an emery cloth wrapped around their ID and swipe several times through the machines at work! That would damage the optical reader! You could get charged with damage to city property!

No I believe they are optical

The swipe machines in the Tenth District records the date as 2/06/47. So, we're either 60 years late for work, or they owe us for 40 years of overtime.

- Caution about running the magnet over your ID. Probably very effective, but it'll become a bitch to get gas!

The cards are optical, not magnetic. Look more closely, it's a bar code.

WoW SCC I never realized you were a TRU hater just like a lot of other idiots who post here. You have no idea about the s#@T we put up with. We work as hard or harder than any unit in the city. You must think were all a bunch of clout babies. Trust me when I tell you that If I had clout Id be some where else.

Heres an idea. how about working the hours that we are paid to work!

All this childish bitching about swiping in and out.

Guess what? In the real work place most already do just that.

Grow up boys and girls, we have a pretty good job, just do it and enjoy it and quit bitching like the lil biotches most of you seem to be.

all i ask is that TRU be the 1st to swipe out and get gps. see how fast everyone goes back to their unit of assignment. i know 5 maybe 6 hr work days really help the crime stats in the city but if you take away their court cuts, school, and 2 hour lunches that might leave you with 1 or perhaps 2 hours of where they are realllly sposed to be. if they arent aloud to eat in any high profile district in the city, ya think they may be the problem? but just remember kids 4 hr work days, 2 hour lunches.

if tru has to swipe in.... heres my question???????? how many cars does it take to do an arrest by a signed complaint in tru? anwser... at least 2. 1 guy for the arrest, 1 for the case, 1 for the complaints. and the other to play on his cell phone. then go jam up the copy machine in the district or hit print 7 or 8 times and have copies fly everywhere. you have to laugh.

..............

I totally Agree..

However swiping out will never happen because if you swipe out late they will show you working overtime. You know, those 5 mins here and there you come in late and are made up to you at a later date. I have no problem working my 8 but this is not like a factory job where you can punch out on time. Swiping out would hurt the city more than help. Swiping in just shows you are present for work.

i suggest a strip of aluminum foil , your id and a 9 volt battery - zap the swipe machine.

I heard this will happen when you sign in and out of court too. Just look when you sign in and out of court and the red clock is sitting there to swipe. Take aluminum foil and put it on the opposite side of your ID and swipe it. It might just short out... Hmmm. And just walk away. :)

Best way to deal with that is to get a late arrest/TVB minutes prior to check off/swiping out.The city will throw that out in a hurry!!Best thing is to hit 'em where it counts....in the pockets!!!!
