Another Stupid Idea

Back in July of 2006, we wrote about Cook County Commissioner Joseph Moreno proposing a house to house search to confiscate legally owned weapons.

On 02 February 2007, we pointed out that Moreno's proposal appears poised to become law in Cook County, though how enforcement will be carried out is unknown.

Now we have a proposal for a ten-cent-per-round tax being floated by Cook County Commissioner Robert Maldonado:
  • What could be the nation's first tax on bullets is being floated as a way to help balance Cook County's budget.

Commissioner Roberto Maldonado wants to slap a 10-cent-a-bullet tax on those buying ammunition in the county. It's one of dozens of plans offered to close the county's $500 million budget deficit.

All this is going to do is drive the few gun shops in Cook County out into the collar counties and cause anyone else who sells ammunition within the county boundaries to stop carrying ammo. You heard it here first. It'll be exactly like trying to balance the budget on the backs of smokers - everyone went out of state and out of county to get their cigarettes. The free market is a bitch when you try to control it. We will gladly spend the extra 30 minutes and 30 miles in a car to avoid paying Urkel and the rest of C(r)ook County any taxes on ammo.

Plus, there's always mail order to our out-of-state post office boxes.

The proposed tax on ammo....another stupid idea, while Urkel has 17 (?) relatives or friends on the county payroll, at least 11 of them making 80K per year or more. As far as cigs (I'm not a smoker), just saw an Indiana vendor selling a carton of gigs for about 11 bucks per carton (probably less than great cigs, but for a smoker....). At any rate, guess who's heading out of state for guns, ammo, gasoline, groceries, etc., etc....

Commissioner Maldonado is one of several scum bags who went to the prisoner review board and asked that they release convicted cop killer Ronnie'MadDog'Carrasquillo. The others were, U.S.Rep. Luis Gutierrez, State Rep Wlliam Delgado, Cynthia Soto and Ald.Billy Ocasio.

These people are not friends of the police.

The tax on cigarettes drove many people out of the county or state to buy cigarettes. In spite of it though, people still buy cigarettes in the county and city.

However, SCC is 100% on this one....a 10ยข a bullet tax will drive every lawful gunshop out of the county. For example, a 50 count box of .22 caliber ammunition that goes for under $2 would now be $7. And that is only one example. No way ANYONE will buy ammo in the county at that kind of markup.

People need their cigarettes because they smoke daily, but people who shoot will just go to Oak Brook Terrace, Will County, etc, and get their ammo there.

This is another example of fantasy thinking by a bloated and corrupt county board. But as long as the Toddler can brazenly do the nonsense he's been doing, anything is possible.

And the voters of C(r)ook County keep running off the edge of the cliff like lemmings, putting asshats and crooks in office again and again.....and this unfortunately, is real!

"...two cops got caught drinking in a bar in 18 by charlie williams while on duty...."

Well, it seems they got caught with their squad car parked in a non-legal spot. Williams went into the restaurant and is alleging that the two coppers were drinking adult beverages while on duty. Has there been a trial and conviction yet? Jeez, give these guys the benefit of the doubt! So they called in a breath tech and the witch hunt is on to nail these guys.

If they were caught red-handed, then they'll have to deal with the consequences. But if they were straight then all they got is a parking beef. Let's hope this turns out to be just a parking complaint.

Sorry, I don't have a lot of pity for stupidity. If they were working and gave a guy who deserved it an extra crack and Williams saw it it would be different. They would have my sympathy and support. Guess they shouldn't have been in the bar drinking on duty. Especially in a district like 018, where you don't know who you might see. If it is true, don't blame Williams, blame them for stupidity. And yes I have some years on this job, and I enjoy an occasional alcoholic beverage, but never when I am working, or going to work.

Confiscate weapons house by house?!?!
Taxing a bullet,,, now there's the solution. So save your shells and load your own.
Might as well grow your own tobacco too, or pay your cousins down south to do it.

WTF is wrong with CC comissioners where do they come up with these ideas. All the suburbs in Cook County that have GUN SHOPS are going to lose a lot of revenue. I guess Will County will really enjoy the new Tax $$$$.

We will tax away those guns. Disarm the many to save the few. Remember, you cannot buy handguns outside the state. Besides you only need one box of shells for work. You can practice with your playstation!

If taxing the amo is a small step to reducing the budget, I say go for it! However, I still believe the county can do away with a few more individuals as was reported in the news last night. The Director from Provident Hosp. was fired.

Terminate - LeRoy Martin, James Whigam, Bill Nolan, Ralph DiBartollo, former Ald. Vilma Colom and others. The County can save close to another $700,000.

Leaving this City and working out in the sticks looks more inviting everyday. This place is the most ass backwards county in the nation. Still people vote on skin color instead of Policy. Nice job idiots.

With the city, county, and upcoming state bans, is all the more reason to let this city burn during the next large ghetto riot. These gutless thieves are going to send us against gangbangers with AKs with just pistols. Let those liberals in Lakeview and the Lakeshore see how civilized the ghetto is when it comes to their doorstep!!!

They also have up for a vote a vehicle tax sticker, which is like our city sticker. This would be required for all vehicles registered in Cook County. So you will have another window sticker for your car. $50!!!

the stupidest idea i have heard recently is the initiation of a b team utilizing so called "rapid response teams" to pick up the slack for a failing tac and gang unit in 009. apparently and inadedequately 009 has had to take rapids off of their sectors to do the job of gang and tac teams at the expense of and risking the safety of overloaded beat officers in their district. in 009 you now have rapids doing dime bag piches with 6 to 8 officers jumping on paper at the expense of their co-workers. you have a sergeant running this team who takes everything personally and is ready to box with anyone who has a brain enough to openly object. they have to justify their existence every day and it has hurt morale so bad that people who were going to leave are now staying just to object. 009 sucks now!
