280 Cameras

Amazing. Will they actually find the money for 280 additional cameras but not for fitting and retro fitting cars with PDT mounts for the new and more modern computers?
  • Another 280 Chicago Police squad cars will be equipped with video cameras — at a cost of $2.2 million — expanding an experiment that began with allegations that a sergeant mistreated state Sen. James Meeks.

The 280 cameras will bring to 310 the number of cameras installed in squad cars to record traffic stops. That’s enough to equip the beat car in every one of the city’s 280 police beats.

We refer our readers back to "the memo" where the Chief of Patr.... oops, we mean Deputy Superintendent of the Bureau of Patrol states that we will all soon be getting the new and more modern PDTs.

Place your bets boys and girls - which are we going to see first? Cameras to provide political cover or PDTs to make our jobs just a little bit easier?

How about using this money to place
A R 15's or shotguns in every squad car. It will probably take another North Hollywood shootout (this time in Chicago) before that happens.

if I were in the beat car (I'm not), it would be a cold day in hell before I'd use the lights, to activate the camera, so me and the citizen driver were on "live"; unless, of course, the CC State's Attorney "promises" that he will prosecute to the "fullest extent of the law" any complaint filed against me, that the video shows to be false...

Doubtful that will never happen. When the North Hollywood shootout occurred Hillard stated that so many CPD would converge on the site, the situation would be neutralized.
But @ that time you were probably popping zitz and playing pattycake w/ suzy rottencrotch.

If you are confronted with firepower like that RUN!! You do not have the firepower to neutralize that threat and you will die. Call the National guard they have AR-15's. Let the mayors security detail shoot it out with them. And there are no gun stores you can go to to borrow weapons like they did in L.A. You can always try and be a hero, then fail. I will come to your funeral and say " he was a good guy". They will forget about you in 6 mos. THE SAD TRUTH Get your car keys and ride around for 8 hrs.

Yeah, ok. Ill call the heavy weapons car....

1. they are not ALL qualified. Yes, they have good guys, but face it...they are pulled from SOS, which is a phone call unit. Leaves 99% of the dept out. Don't you think that maybe even 1 beat copper could make swat if given the chance? I know military snipers that cannot make swat cause they have no phone call... Who trains better, cpd or marines? Hmmmm.

2. they have slow response time. Even if they rush, you could be pinned down for several minutes. Even if they drive 85 mph, it could take 5 or 10 min to get to you. Or your dead body. I'd rather take my chances making it to MY car and grabbing MY shotgun....

3. 6 shooter? Hope you have a HUGE dump pouch.

We will have to agree to disagree...CONGRATS on retirement, have a great time, and live a long, long, time...make little dick cut a fat check to you for MANY more decades!!!!

it gets me sick to hear them say it will benefit the department in the prosecution of criminal cases and to stop people from making up false allegations against the police.

yada, yada, yada. like cook county will use the tapes to prosecute a case. this county blows. the jails are all overcrowed, 4x their capacity, the asa give stupid crazy super duper probation, the judges throw out pc when their is etc and we're suppose to believe they will ascertain the tapes let alone use them to prosecute a case, yeah right.

typical city and dept. they have their head so far up their asses. never spending money where it SHOULD be spent. patrol cars with 170,000 miles on them being held together with duct tape and coat hangers. half the cars don't even have the old pdt's let alone the new ones. their is never any open computers in the station to do your work or process your prisoners. bag logs everynight - no manpower (how about using money to hire a lot more coppers).

Off topic.

Maybe the U.S. should contact Chicago city leaders concerning terrorism intelligence.

Even though Khalid Shaikh Mohammed
admitted that the Sears tower was a
target, officials in Chicago stated that they had not herd of such a threat. So since their vast intelligence network has not come to the same conclusion it must be false.

I for one feel safe
knowing Chicago is not a
target.

Chicago can now return all of $$$ it receives for homeland security,
it obviously is not need.

We are definately due for another shoot out bank robbery somewhere in the U.S. They had one in Miami in 1981 that led the F.B.I. to go to the Glock. And of course, the Bank of America robbery in L.A. I put my money on Chicago being the next spot for World's Scariest Police Videos episode of "When Bank Robberies Go Bad." We already lead the nation in bank robberies. Hey, we still walk into a bank after we get a "hold up" alarm. Shouldn't O.E.M.C. make contact with a bank employee, have them step outside and meet the police so we don't walk into a bank robbery/hostage situation?

I just got on the job not too long ago and I can not believe the constant bitching about the department. If you hate this job that bad than retire or quit already. So what if someone get promoted. If they have a phone call or clout, more power to them. The old timers in my district don't back anybody up. You can always see them sitting in that park like nothing came over the radio. Then later on in the station they'll start telling everyone what to do long after the offender has been processed and the gun inventoried. If your going to be that lazy ass copper that doesn't do anything but wants to bud in on everyone else's arrest, do us a favor and stay in your car. I do understand that the older you get the more crankier you are, but keep it to yourself. No one cares about listening to your only arrest from 1958.

A sad day. Please keep these PO's in your prayers!

-----------------------------------

NEW YORK (AP) -- A grand jury Friday indicted at least three of the five police officers whose 50-shot barrage killed an unarmed man on his wedding day, lawyers for the officers said.

It was not immediately disclosed if the other officers were also charged.

Attorney Paul Martin said he did not know what offense his client, officer Marc Cooper, was charged with.

"He has been indicted. He has been asked to surrender on Monday," Martin said.

News of the decision came after three days of deliberations that included the emergence of a last-minute witness who testified Thursday.

Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown scheduled an announcement for Monday.

Anticipation has been running high around New York City about the grand jury's decision. Extra police officers were put on standby and the mayor met with black leaders in the Queens neighborhood where the shooting occurred in hopes of defusing any tensions that might arise from the decision.

A 23-person grand jury is hearing the case, and 12 grand jurors needed to vote for an indictment for charges to be brought. The panel includes eight blacks, seven whites, and a mix of Hispanics and Asians.

"Whatever the grand jury says ... I think you will see the people of this city behaving in an exemplary manner," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Friday. "They can be disappointed, they can express themselves -- that's freedom of speech, I don't have a problem with that. But nobody is going to go out and make our streets unsafe."

The case took a strange twist Thursday when a last-minute witness emerged and testified before the grand jury, which is deciding whether to issue charges in the deadly shooting of 23-year-old Sean Bell on his wedding day. Two of his friends were wounded.

The shooting that killed Bell stirred outrage around New York City and led to accusations of racism against police. Bell was black, as are two of his friends who were wounded in the shooting. Two of the officers are white, and three are black.

To truly catch as many felonies on camera as possible, the City needs to add 51 cameras. One in each Alderman's office and one in the Mayoral Office.

The 280 cameras is only one reason why the city has no money.

Another reason is the "cradle-to-grave" welfare state mentality. An example of this: A fire kills a woman in 025. Today the CFD is instructed by the City to knock on doors in the neighborhood and give away free smoke detectors. (were they donated by businesses?)Doubt it!

Hey CFD stop in 025 and leave a few of those at the front desk for me will you. I have a vacation home that can use a few new smoke detectors.

Instead of "sanctuary city" zone lets make Chicago "illegal immigrant free zone."

I mean the city wants to do everything for everybody and from an economic viewpoint it can't! Stop the nonsense, let citizens wipe their own asses once in a while! Civilization will survive..I mean the mayor wasn't there to wipe the asses of the early colonists at Plymouth rock!

Maybe the morale and so forth on this job is in the crapper because we are now paying for all the lies and corruption from yesteryear. Maybe its the 4 years without a raise. Maybe its the way our benefits keep going away from us and to the useless.

Non the less. I get paid a decent salary to drive around and answer calls. If you want more. Treat me better. I for one log and document every and all conversations with the bosses. It will come in handy at law suit time! Be safe boys n girls.

To the person who wrote aginst the American Knights St. Pats party I would like to respond. You obviously know nothing about bikers, especially bikers who are also law enforcement members. I have been in a club for 10 years now, we are also law enforcement. I have watched bikers do many charitable events to help many people. They raise money for children with brain tumors, toys for children at Christmas time, and funds to support families of law enforncement officers who have lost their lives both in the line of duty and not. It is true that most of the bikers at this party drove their cars, however there were about 25 or 30 bikes there as well, but in late March the wheather is not exactly predicable. I have one question for you, if this party was such a joke, and bikers are so fake, why were you their in the first place?

I have one question for you, if this party was such a joke, and bikers are so fake, why were you their in the first place?

good question??? because one of my friends is unfortunately a member... I will NEVER make that mistake again... bunch of losers... now go cook up some meth poser!

Why do our police facilities not have smoke or carbon monoxide detectors? Are they exempt from the City Ordinance?

to: 9:09 pm.....excellent observation...does anyone think that the police brass actually knows what's going on, are competent enough to comprehend facts and evidence, and then to comment publicly? ......Cline's appointments for exempt positions reflect DIRECTLY on his intelligence, competence, and professionalism; IF he was forced (by City Hall) to appoint anyone to an exempt position (that did not deserve it), he should have resisted it and resigned immediately; if he appointed, on his own, some bonehead, based on political or familial connections, he should resign...("you are either the real police, or you are not")....

To several of the above:

AR 15's and shotguns in squad cars, the Daley, Cline and CW will never go for that. It is cheaper to bury cops than to arm them, or defend them.

The Sears Tower is a target and remember that the so called "Dirty Bomber" in custody now is a Chicago gangbanger. It is department policy that, "It is no practical to train individual officers to respond to a terrorist attack." It is cheaper to bury cops than to train them.

The Federal Homeland Security money given to Chicago I bet came in the front door and went out the back to pay for flower pots and hired trucks. I would love to have the Feds come in and audit the books with inditements to follow.

There was a time when this job, the benefits and the morale were good, even great. We can only hope that Daley gets indited and convicted, Cline leaves A.S.A.P, and CW gets shown up for the (fill-in-the-blank)he is and we get some really good people to replace them. What a dream.

This Department can't even manage their own people internally so God knows they can't manage the citizens of Chicago either. What a joke!
Love the job, hate the Department.

Do we even have 280 cars that run to put the cameras in? Most of the departments cars are in sad shape. Motor mant. does a sh*t job on fixing anything.

BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU!

In an article in The Reader's Digest (Oct. 2001), Daley tells of how he is trying to make this city like London. Where there are cameras everywhere and not just following your every move. They will have automatic face recognition technology to alert the watchers of the whereabouts of wanted persons, terrorists and sex offenders.

With the cameras in cars, young, probably old coppers too, will go to hot calls with their emergency lights off. Pursuits, if there are any will have cars trying to get around without lights. The supervisors will have to gather the videos, and your video will not only rat you out, it will rat out everyone there. God help you in any department vehicle crash.

A.S.A.s will want to review the videos, no video-no felony. What a nightmare it will be to sort, review, analyze and archive all this. Watch for a whole lot of young house mice coppers try to get the job of Video Technician.

I hear that fat ass Egan was in charge of this whole project. Her and that pompous ass Sadowski where hand in hand walking along the road of nonsense while putting this together. The department has not met two more kiss ass fools than those two. Be careful knowing those two the camera probably has a function to tape conversations in the car and video you reading your paper and having a cup of coffee.

I was just thinking, it would be really tough to figure out just who the stupidest prick on the CPD is. After reading SCC today, I do have a few more clues. Thanks.

How about instead of getting AR-15's and MP5 machine guns, and shotguns, we get some really good stuff for the new kids to use. We need better fire-power than the criminals, not equal. How about some Flame-Throwers, morters, and some belt-fed machineguns for a start. If dat don't work, maybe we can rig the new Dept. Helecopter, [if we can find it] to fire Napalm. Yeah, what else up doe?

The cameras suck! We got the digital ones that download when we go past a hot spot. Any time you activate your lights the camera turns on however it records 2 minutes before you actually turned your lights on and 30 seconds after you shut them off. We also have these high tech microphones that could pick up a mouse fart. All our supervisors watch them (the recordings) from their office. We hear them shuck in up after every stop. They Monday morning quaterback every stop. These f*&^ing JO'S don't have one in their cars. The cameras suck! Don't believe the hype that they save you more than they hurt you. I had one incidet that went my way on the video and still got screwed. Productivity will drop. They suck and everyone I know thinks they suck!!! NW Burb COP!

Good news! Many departments in Florida and Arizona accept lateral transfers from CPD. It might be hot as hell down there in the summer but a little sherriff's department in Podunk, FLA never looked so good...Fu*k this city!!!

Guys.... I work in 016. You can turn the camera off. It has an on / off button. I never turn it on. If you trun the whole camera on, which it always is, then when you activate your blue lights it records to the hard drive. If the system is on, then it is on a record loop, but you have to turn it on just like your computer. You needed to push the button to turn it on to get it to work.

As far as inspectors go, they don't give a shit about the camera. Not yet at least. It's not a mover for them. Anyone that says different is talking out of their ass.

I also remember when we had shotgus in the car. Coppers didn't know how to take care of them. The guy that said they used them for ashtrays is right.

I wouldn't give half the cops on this job shit either. Look at the sqaud cars.

So next time your in the squad car bitching, as you carve up the wheel with your really cool knife look at your dumb ass partner who is fucking up the PDT and ask him why the department doesn't give you any new weapons or the new PDT. You probably don't fucking deserve it.

The Florida and Arizona PD's also require a lie detector test... do you really think you could pass ?

Pass a lie detector test? Without a problem. You mean to tell me you couldn't? Too bad. Must suck to be you. Remember that post when you ask why no one treats coppers like adults. I go home each and every night confident that no one from the department has a file on their desk with my name on it, other than tuition reimbursment.
