Another Pretend Scandal

Once again, the current Administration finds itself behind the eight ball regarding the firing of eight US Attorneys. We can't ever remember a bunch of politicians who were so unable to get ahead of a story and stomp it into a non issue. Now we have potential Congressional hearings into why 8 people who serve at the pleasure of the President of the United States lost their jobs. And that's hardly the silliest part of it all:
  • Congressional Democrats are in full cry over the news this week that the Administration's decision to fire eight U.S. Attorneys originated from--gasp--the White House. Senator Hillary Clinton joined the fun yesterday, blaming President Bush for "the politicization of our prosecutorial system." Oh, my.

As it happens, Mrs. Clinton is just the Senator to walk point on this issue of dismissing U.S. attorneys because she has direct personal experience. In any Congressional probe of the matter, we'd suggest she call herself as the first witness--and bring along Webster Hubbell as her chief counsel.

As everyone once knew but has tried to forget, Mr. Hubbell was a former partner of Mrs. Clinton at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock who later went to jail for mail fraud and tax evasion. He was also Bill and Hillary Clinton's choice as Associate Attorney General in the Justice Department when Janet Reno, his nominal superior, simultaneously fired all 93 U.S. Attorneys in March 1993. Ms. Reno--or Mr. Hubbell--gave them 10 days to move out of their offices.

That's right. Clinton fired ALL 93 US Attorneys and nary a complaint was heard, even though one of those he fired was actively investigating Dan "stamps" Rostenkowski and another was knee deep in Whitewater paperwork that tied Bill and Hillary to a number of shady dealings.

The democrats have always been famous for feigned outrage when it suits their purposes. This is more of the same.

They're all political appointees and no one has any say about them except the president. I can't figure out why he doesn't tell them all (the "complainers") to go get fucked?

And has any of the news media pointed this out to these goofy hypocrites? put them on the spot? My guess is not. It serves no purpose for them. where is the responsible media when you need them. It was mentioned briefly on FOX and O'Rielly.

You know I love ya, SCC, but you're a full of shit idiot. Every new President (as Clinton was in 1992) replaces the previous President's (as in the smart George Bush who was President from 1988-1992) U.S. attorneys. What doesn't happen is what happened here: a President replaces HIS OWN U.S. Attorneys because he isn't hard and fast enough against political opponents of specific Republic lawmakers. And does it midterm.

Oh, wait, that's not even what happened here. The President DIDN'T fire them. While the U.S. attorneys DO serve at the pleasure of the President, in these cases, the President didn't fire them, claims he didn't tell anyone to fire them, and the Attorney General of the United States claims not to have ordered their firing. So have we ammended the law to state that the United States Attorneys now serve at the pleasure of Karl Rove, Harriet Meyers, and whatever third tier political hack at the justice department wants to dump their republican asses? Hmmmmmm.....don't remember seeing that Constitutional amendment in the newspaper. Maybe it's a blog thing.

Evidently, you didn't read the Wall Street Journal link. Read the fourth paragraph:

At the time, President Clinton presented the move as something perfectly ordinary: "All those people are routinely replaced," he told reporters, "and I have not done anything differently." In fact, the dismissals were unprecedented: Previous Presidents, including Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter, had both retained holdovers from the previous Administration and only replaced them gradually as their tenures expired. This allowed continuity of leadership within the U.S. Attorney offices during the transition.

So Bush replaces 8 US Attorneys and now it's a scandal? We aren't complaining that the AG's office isn't a hotbed of political intrigue. We're complaining that Bush and Co. can't get in front of a pretend scandal manufactured by the democrats when they did the exact same thing on a MASSIVE scale. You think the US Attorneys fired by Clinton weren't fired by Hubbell and Hillary because of the Rose Law Firm/Whitewater scandal?

We think someone is full of shit here and it ain't us.

Fitzgerald would have to totally dismantle the Daley regime to straighten this mess of a city out corruption-wise. I think he is about done, and doesn't have the interest or the stones to see this thru. Don't expect much more, Ryan was his big fish, not Daley, who is in cahoots with Bush, [with who and where did Bush spend his last birthday bash with?]and Fitz has already landed Ryan. I see him moving on soon and the status quo resuming, that is if it ever really did stop in the first place. He probably and rightly so figures, if these people in Chicago are stupid enough to keep re electing this crook, then why should we [the Feds] be all that concerned anymore.
