Two Helicopters

  • The new chopper has all of the bells and whistles, including night vision instrumentation that allows officers wearing night-vision goggles to see in the dark; a gamma radiation detector that could be used to locate dirty bombs; and a LoJack stolen vehicle detection system. It's also equipped with a special map system, powerful video cameras that can downlink pictures to Chicago's 911 emergency center and a searchlight.
What other features does it have? Suggestions welcome - how about a DOC area locator so it won't waste any precious moments it could be spending hovering over a hot spot.

Well, I must admit they are impressive. There is a CPD helecopter flying at tree level over 105/Central Park. A little research and after a call to a friend at OPS Command it turns out the pilot was giving a demo to a boss and his family down the street.

Hey Cmndr. Holmes (or who ever books these engagments) how about some block party appearances and rides for the kids? Nice waste of resources Dickheads!

Helicopter 1 sure showed off its stuff today. It made an appearance flying over a "Doc March" I think they called it over Piotrowski Park in 010 today. A whole march that went around a 3 block radius. It was funny how they kept interupting on the busy zone to ask silly questions. Then 15 minutes into it they again came over and stated "squad we are pulling off for a few to refuel." Yeah ok, thanks. Don't get me wrong, I think they can be useful in certain situations, but come on, a community march?

TWO helicopters!?

As a dispatcher I have to say: That's funny, Nobody bothered to mention this little tidbit of info to us !

As far as this feature goes "It's also equipped with a special map system, powerful video cameras that can downlink pictures to Chicago's 911 emergency center " ......... Um, we have NO such equipment at our immediate consoles that can receive any such images! At least not for now. There's talk of us getting our consoles replaced this summer finally. They've only been used 24/7/ 365 for 12 years now. But our Watch Managers cant even explain to us what these new consoles will or won't be including.

WILL they have yet one more screen for us to monitor?

Will we be able to view the POD cameras like the idiots in the O.C. ? (Yes, they are idiots. They are supposed to be viewing the cameras for criminal activity, and when they see it, create an event and send it to the zone for dispatch. But guess what- we're getting events for parkers !!! Yeah, parkers, give me a fucken break! You're gonna sit over there in the comfy cozy OC and send me an event for a fucken parker that is blocking a cross walk! ....And when there is a shooting - we NEVER get ANY info from them. NONE. We get more info from the Fusion Center.)

Sorry, had to vent; But I just cannot imagine the City reconfiguring our already busy consoles with more screens to look at. Maybe they will. Maybe they won't. But if they don't... then where exactly will this new fancy shmancy helicopter be downlinking pictures to?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Seeing that we lead the country, world, galaxy, and universe, in law enforcement technology,(really, they told us this at the seminar, really, we'll someday be able to predict where crime will occur and be a paperless department true dat)anyway, I submit my list of options that the helicopter should have as standard equipment.

A Lava Lamp
A USB powered Weber Grill(hey, the pilot has to eat too)
A Mr. Coffee Espresso machine
A cordless controller for Play Station 2
A 50" HDTV Plasma Television
A Computerized Etch A Sketch(for crime scene drawings)
A hand held high beam light (this will come in handy to send OEMC morse code when your radio batteries go dead, really
A minifridge
A USB mini desk top aquarium
A Blow-up partner (this may come in handy if and when this unit's manpower is depleted or they get bored and want to stay on the ground in a safe cubicle)

Just as an aside to the whole issue. Chief Helicopter Pilot "Helicopter Harry Hohm" recieves his pension plus his $100,000 plus salary as Chief Pilot. This is the same guy who was forced out of 022 for being such an asshole. Only in Chicago.

The day's of decent cars and PDT's that work ended when Mike Picardi insisted that control of our fleet be turned over to him at the Dept. of Fleet Management. How unfortunate it was that Phil Cline did'nt have the balls to step up to the plate and resist that take over. So people keep enjoying your 100K plus mile squad cars as you look at brand new snow removal trucks and other brand new equipment over at streets and sanitation.

We will instead mount two high powered Marshmellow guns on each side, capable of launching 50 marshmellows per second,(larger capacity models are available, in fact, I heard Walmart has a 100 marshmellow bag on sale for those who really mean business),yep, this has been added to the use of force model, but, only a supervisor is allowed to operate this weapon, really.

ok, now this is top secret...

The Department is currently developing a superduper assault weapon.
They've been recruiting pilots for years for the FSC (Flying Stealth Cubicle). Some of these units are currently on display at various units and districts. Not only will they fly, but the pilots are invisible. The pilots are there for take off and landings but you'll never see them during flight.

Also...shh..

The Bean really flys. Yep, in an actual emergency, the Bean is transported to the Skyway afterwhich it is rolled down the roadway and takes off.
They've even given exams for the position of pilot, but, I decided to wait for the answers to be published and take the test when the optional 2nd test is given.

Why does the helo have the county emblem on it?

6/02/2007 01:36:00 AM

------------

Because there are County Policemen onboard. They have pilots and tactical flight officers on loan to the city to help with the taskforce.

The city engaged in a MOU with the county to provide funding and bodies.... The city and the county both win. They get to share a copter and the costs which are just horrendous.

We sent you some very good policemen from CCSPD. Utilize them well.

The city is getting money from the county, hence the county sheriffs emblem.

Leave it to the city to
grab for the $$$$.

I understand that the city provides admin. &
pilots.
County provides the observers.

Up next, the marine unit is putting the Wendella
Boat stickers on the side and is giving tours while on patrol.

The mounted unit will be pulling carriages and giving tours downtown.

All of this for a few bucks.
If you call 911 now you can get both tours for the low-low price...

Wow, that's really fantastic. The CPD gets a heicopter. They had one in the early 70's but didn't believe in this new fangled technology. Much like their approach to computers and computer based case reportingnow.

Other departments have been doing their case reports on computers for years. Not the CPD. they still go hmmmmm, this might be a passing fad, let's wait and see. Maybe one of their friends or family members will sell some shit to the city. Then they will wholeheartedly embrach computer based case reporting. Atleast 10 years after other departments.

The helicopter, oh that, haven't other big city departments had helicopters for many years? But we don't need them here. Not until 2007 when they can get a "state of the art" helicopter.

What a crock. At the CPD I work on obsolete junk computers with Windows 98 loaded. I threw my Windows 98 computer in the trash can three computers ago.

The new whiz bang laptops in our prisoner processing rooms are msotly broken and the ones that work are for shit. Lousy keyboards and no space to do a paper case report, which we must do because, well, read above.

This department is full of shit. If the public only knew how much of their tax money is being wasted on garbage they would storm the gates and have Richy's head on a pike.

Retirement can't come soon enough.

Yes, For clarification: when I said the O.C. sends us events for parkers, I was referring to the Operation Center located IN the OEMC. [[ Police Officers do not work in there. Civilians do. Some may be retired cops, I don't know for sure. However, if your job is to view cameras around the city, why aren't you sending us jobs/events for fights in the street, car accidents, persons with guns? We really don't need events for parkers. The citz are good at calling those in. We don't need any more! ]]
We, as dispatchers never refer to Operations Command as O.C. We just call that "operations command" or "ops command". Furthermore, personally I was not aware that there are several Ops centers being staffed in the city as you stated.

so is cpd actually going to see the choppers when we need them... the only time i have heard of them being used is over the suburbs. what the hell is the city doing paying all this money when they are never used IN THE CITY!!!! never once have i seen the chopper being used in 007 or 008 or 009 on third watch or midnights... wait, im sure that the chopper would be more useful over oak lawn or palos heights than these three districts...

"They get to share a copter and the costs which are just horrendous."

Really? How does a city like Indianapolis afford to have 3 helos up and running?

**How should I know? Perhaps they got some grant money? Donations from corporate citizens? INDY500 money? Your guess is as goos as mine pal.

Typical County Clown suckass, same guy that mows his lawn with the shoulder rig on just to let the neighbor kids know he's "packn".

**NONE of the coppers on the detail are suckasses.... Tony and company from CCSP are more of a policeman on a bad day than you'll be in your whole career! What's the matter? A little jealous that you couldn't make height/weight restriction for the unit? Too dumb to get a pilot's license? Allergic to Nomex clothing? hmmmm?

What a stroke...

No sir, YOU are the stroke.
Actually, you probably couldn't pretend to be a pimple on a real policeman's ass! Now go be a hall monitor over at 35th Street, you reject blue turd!!

With 2 helocopters, given the probablility that these "golden" boys and girls are in a Sat-Sun DOG. When will these birds fly? Are they authorizing overtime on holiday's? Even if they are in a regular DOG, 2 helos and required scheduled maintenance dont add up to any effective benefit for us.
