Mayor Supports Police?

From the comments:
  • Hey SCC,
As much as I hate that rat of a mayor, how about giving him due respect when he sticks up for the police. You should at least mention the FRONT PAGE article where the mayor backs the rest of SOS. I am going to assume that it was an oversight on your part and not that you have become just like every other media outlet.
    Keep telling the truth, brother.
We're trying to find this article. We found the Finnigan profile prominently displayed on the Sun Times website. We found Daley sporting a Cubs hat. We even found the mayor supporting two year degrees as a way of reducing onerous college costs. Maybe we're just missing it. We'd love to post an article of the mayor praising the Police Department. The only problem is that while he's talking, you have to watch what he's doing with his hands behind the scenes or what his people are whispering to his tame reporters.

As proof, all you have to do is look at the state of contract negotiations - no contract since 30 June and no negotiations. What does having a Superintendent have to do with anything regarding a contract when the mayor is the only one who actually has any say in the matter?

This is just a "SPIN" by the Mayor, in my eyes. If he say's "yeah, lets disband SOS" then that would be an admission of his letting it get out of hand. If he agrees to the need for this unit and keeps it going then that is his way of saying "I knew all along and I want them to keep up the work I knew they always did".

I don't think the mayor should be allowed to write a comment like that about himself.

Crime statistics may not tell true story
By Jeremy Kohler
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
10/01/2007

Different ways of counting incidents make the metro area's ranking for violent crime hard to pin down. Almost 20 years after its inception, barely one-fifth of U.S. police departments use it.

Illinois found the transition too complex and abandoned the effort in 1994, said Mike Maltz, a criminal justice professor at the University of Illinois-Chicago.

But changes made in the aborted transition left the state with its own crime counting system, one that is compatible with no other state.

Consider a hypothetical incident in which a woman's home is burglarized and she is assaulted and raped.

Most states, including Missouri, follow an FBI guideline called the "hierarchy rule" to count just the most serious crime — in this case a rape.

But according to Illinois State Police guidelines, a police agency would tally each offense. Such a practice provides more detail about an incident, but, in this scenario, adds up to three crimes instead of one.

How much it distorts Illinois crime rates is not clear.

The FBI plays it safe by rejecting Illinois crime stats. Since 1993, the bureau has refused to include most of them in its annual publication, "Crime in the United States," said Greg Scarbro, the FBI's crime data unit chief. Illinois publishes its own crime stats — "Crime in Illinois" — on the same day as the FBI's.

Maltz, the professor, said the exclusion was a headache for professionals who tried to derive meaning from crime statistics.

"You try to make do with it as best you can," he said.

Further muddying the water, Illinois' crime reporting isn't uniform even within the state.

Police in its biggest city, Chicago, do follow the FBI's hierarchy rule, counting each incident as just one crime, said Chicago police news affairs officer Marcel Bright.

So the FBI accepts, and publishes, Chicago's crime stats. Just not every category. That's because Chicago joins the rest of Illinois in another deviation from bureau guidelines.

The FBI defines rape as "carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will." Sex crimes that don't involve intercourse, and crimes against males, are not counted as rapes.

But Illinois has no such category called "rape." It tallies a wide variety of sex crimes, including those against males, in a category called "criminal sexual assault."

Don't think of it as the Mayor's supporting the Police; that's far from it! Keep in mind, he has to show that his Police Department is not crumbling to due to corrupt Officers and Units like this that would deter the OLYMPICS(!) from ever being hosted in Chicago. Unfortunately the last year or so has been a very negative one for members of our police department. So negative that I'm probably not the only one who has considered a new line of work, but here is the facts...this job as a whole can be mentally draining on a humanbeing and that is exactly what we are human. Some of us may get on here and make jokes of our experiences some may blast one another and some may find someone to blame i.e. bosses, media, revs, but the fact remains the world can be an ugly place no one comes onto this job to kill anyone,be killed or to make the world anything more than better, thats it. Unfortunately human beings no matter what their professions are can be bad and they can be good, thats life. healthcare workers have been killers, teachers have been pedophiles, policeman have been criminals, again thats life. Its time now to move on for us some maybe in denial over recent developments w/ sos and thats natural I've unfortunately been through similar and you will get over it...trust me. Understand when the oldtimers tell you to stop working they're trying to help you unfortunately some will listen and some won't. The key to this job is to get to your jobs as quickly as possible handle them the best you can and wait for the next one, no g.o. says you need a million arrests. Be careful what some of these bosses tell you because they'll lean in on the picture of a good arrest and when the shit hits the fan they do the electric slide the other way, thats life in the big city and I don't blame them either. Be your own man because today you are cpd tomorrow you could be applying at McD's its a job thats it and thats all nothing more nothing less. To who ever is making the decisions these days eliminate all these special units idle hands are the devils playground plain and simple, narrow it down to a few of the best coppers not the best phone calls and throw the rest into a district stop throwing the youngins to the wolves, saw a guy with two years on in SOS (attn. media they are not all elite). be safe,be smart and be honest and to the asa's reading this yes i read the miranda and yes i tell the truth, they pay me to work eight hours and time and a half for every minute after that. keep your sense of humors you deserve it.

"We'd love to post an article of the mayor praising the Police Department."

SCC never said anything about praising the mayor. Shit, we can't think of one instance where they even came close.

Can anyone tell me why I received a "Total Cpmensation Summary" statement from the city? The letter describes my "direct pay" (salary) shold be combined with my "indirect pay" (benefits the city pays on my behalf)and how they should be combined to give me a "Total Compensation Pagkage." Is this a ploy by the city in the contract negotations, because I cannot see what toher purpose it serves? They add up all the health care, Life Insurance, Pension and medicare costs the city contributes and combines that with my salary to make it look like I make this extravagent amount of money. However, they did not list the amount I pay out of my salary for healthcare, life insurance, and pension and medicare. THIS HAS TO BE A CONTRACT PLOY?? Anyone know why we got this for the first time???

Little Lord Daley loves to take credit for all the new buildings and improvements in the city.

Which buildings did he build? Which improvements did he make, without raping the taxpayer's wallet by favoring his Outfit connected buddies and relatives with the contracts? Now his nephew is looting the pension funds and the little moron Mayor says he was unaware that his relative was involved.

Daley is a hysterical spoiled brat, all grown up now, but with the same arrogance.

I WAS SHOCKED TO FIND OUT THAT THEY DO GET THE "TWO-BIT" TOUR. I WAS IN THE POLICE SIGN-IN ROOM LAST WEEK, WHEN AN ACADEMY "INSTRUCTOR" STROLLED IN WITH 6 NEW-BIES. HE SHOWED THEN HOW TO SIGN-IN AND OUT, ETC. ABOUT 30 MORE WERE WAITING IN THE HALL. HE SAID THAT AFTER THE TROOPS ARE SHOWN AROUND THE CCB THEY DO GO OVER TO CCJ FOR A TOUR. ALTHOUGH THE TIME FRAME [0840 HOURS] PICKED FOR THIS WAS NOT IDEAL [CROWDED WITH POLICE THAT ARRESTED CRIMINALS TRYING TO GET TO COURT], I ENDORSE THE CONCEPT.
A NEAR-BY FTO QUIPPED THAT "THAT SHOULD BE HANDLED BY THE FTO WHEN THE PPO ATTENDS COURT WITH HIM". GUESS THAT WOULD BE OK IF THE FTO MAKES PINCHES, SOME DO, SOME DON'T...
ALL THAT ASIDE - I FEEL IT WAS A POSITIVE MOVE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION BY THE FOLKS ON WEST JECKSON BLVD.

Recruits do visit county jail. They also receive ethics training. Unfortunately who takes over after they graduate? FTO's? Maybe 50 are sharp the rest are waste of time. Recruits are treated like parasites in districts unless they happen to have clout then they work straight days. Amazing how many recruits are connected the day they enter the academy. Clout starts the first day of academy.

And yes, they do go to Chuck E Cheese for lunch afterward.
Should you want to be included in the next tour, please have your mommy call the academy and have your name added to the list.

Considering the current quality of instructors, chuck e cheese is a improvement. The quality is appaling. Make believe roll playing with no real street experience. Gym instructors who never worked the street. A great hiding place for empty holsters. Those who hide and never teach anyone. A mini 35th street. So sad.

Eddie Burke is losing his touch. Got caught again with his hand in the till trying to fix Obama's mentor's property taxes.

Think about it, Obama, a full fledged member of the Cook County Democrat Organization of Thieves as President!

YIKES
