- Six current or former big-city police chiefs are vying to become Chicago's next police superintendent, and five to 10 more outsiders are expected to join the competition by the Halloween deadline.
- Carney said he has asked the Police Executive Research Forum to conceal the names until Wednesday's deadline. "I don't want to know who they are."

This is another smoke and mirror attempt to make it look like the Mayor searched high and low for the number one spot as Superintendant. HG is the front runner and the Commander of CCG (Central Control Group) was seen at Gibson's last week having dinner with no other then the Mayor. I was told that he will have the 1st Deputy spot by years end. My information is coming from the 5th floor and is usually pretty on the money.
The subject of the Superintendency of the Chicago Police Department will be on the agenda for the 44th Ward October meeting. Guest speaker will be Ron Huberman.
Weather permitting, we will hook up at the Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary on Halloween night. BYOB.

The Bush administration and New York cut a deal Saturday to create a new generation of super-secure driver's licenses for U.S. citizens, but also allow illegal immigrants to get a version.
New York is the fourth state to reach such an agreement on federally approved secure licenses, after Arizona, Vermont and Washington. The issue is pressing for border states, where new and tighter rules are soon to go into effect for crossings.
The deal comes about one month after New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer announced a plan whereby illegal immigrants with a valid foreign passport could obtain a license.
Saturday's agreement with the Homeland Security Department will create a three-tier license system in New York. It is the largest state to sign on so far to the government's post-Sept. 11 effort to make identification cards more secure.
Spitzer, who has faced much criticism on the issue, said the deal means New York "will usher in the most secure licensing system in the nation."
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said he was not happy that New York intended to issue IDs to illegal immigrants. But he said there was nothing he could do to stop it.
"I don't endorse giving licenses to people who are not here legally, but federal law does allow states to make that choice," Chertoff said.

There was a guy on O'Reilly last night talking about that. Forgot what he did, former Customs or Immigration, and itemized all the reasons why giving illegals an official document is a big mistake. Very convincing argument against this stupid idea and referenced many situations he discovered while on the job.
This is ridiculous. You have two sets of laws in this country. Normal people are going to snap eventually. If illegals don't have to obey the law, why the fuck should we?

Well, a rundown on a few east coast candidates is as follows:
Not Ramsey, he is supposedly looking at Baltimore.
Not Ramsey's replacement in DC, Lanier, as she just recently started in the top spot in DC and the entirely of her 12-15 year police history started at the botton in DC. FWIW, the police in DC seem to like her far more than they did Ramsey.
Not the most recent super in Baltimore, as he was forced out for poor performance.
Not anyone from Boston, as after Evans left for the U.K., his politically correct Irish female replacement O'Toole saw numbers get worse from day 1. She was recently given a sweetheart do-nothing deal in Ireland, and I think somebody from Boston prolly paied the Irish to take her back.
Not Timoney from Miami. He's had a few too many issues, including an arrested son in Miami, and a numbers-cooking scandal from years back in Philly. Him I'd like though, so not grinding an ax here.
Any large city actually looking for results is looking for the same man. There is only one Bratton, and that is who any large city should be seeking. Hell, Chicago should pay LA the equivalent of a year's super salary just to borrow Bratton's expertise for a week. You bring him in here, and 90-95% of the exempts would be gone within 6 months. It would take Bratton no longer than that to realize what all of you know, which is that there is almost NO leadership in Chicago anywhere in the leadership ranks.

We have plenty of good choices right under our noses. The Mayor is so afraid of the store front ministers that he is by passing his best talent looking for someone that would appease the black community rather than run the Department professionally.
A number of people have mentioned Chuck Wexler of PERF as being a "rain maker" in this process. As Don Corlene said in Godfather I "Tattalia's a pimp I've known all along it was Brazini." Well you can apply the same logic here, Wexler's the Pimp and watch out for Barbara McDonald. SHe is the one who controls PERF and she will do the bidding of the Mayor on this issue. Demitrius Carey - Max Caponi - Chuck Wexler - all they do is open the door for the real power behind the throne.
No matter who it is they will take orders from daley and do absolutely nothing without his approval! Keating will be 1st deputy it is already a done deal, and will take away more cars and put more segways into use to save fuel.
I vote for anyone who could help restore morale! Which is at an all time low especially in the undermanned patrol division! When college was a required we received a "New Breed" of officer. More educated and who know about how to spot bullshit and know computers (evidenced by SCC).
