Oh Jeez, Another Scandal?

Someone keeps asking about what happened in 025. An officer may have been stripped and sent to call back. Now we get word that at least one additional person from 016 has been sent to call back regarding a towing scandal that was hinted at here months ago. The rumor back then was that those involved were thinking they could handle traffic crashes and refer the towing business to companies that they either had a vested interest in or that would provide a little extra incentive for the referral. We remember this exact same scandal years ago with a number of wagon crews removing dead bodies to certain funeral homes who paid a commission.

Can we please get everyone to play by the rules for a few months? Just for a little while? A whole bunch of us would appreciate it. Thanks.

This request presupposes that everyone knows the rules.

The only rules the merit shits know are: When in Doubt, Call your Clout.

The 016th had an identical tow-business-referral-for-fee scandal about 8 years ago. Word is some of the same players are/were back at it. Gee, is this, ala SOS, another boss who got IAD to shit can investigations to protect corrupt cops and keep the money train rolling? Hey, Mr Fitzgerald, pick up the phone! It's the bosses! Can you say RICO?

This is nothi ng new. Years ago the tow companies would pay you to spot abandoned cars for them to tow to the crusher. The abandoned auto guys were pissed because they were left out.

Tow companies have been doing this for years. Same holds true with the board up services, which is why I never let them anywhere near a fire or burglary with a busted plate glass window.

I hope the coppers in 018 and their friends who work for the tow companies (Division/Halsted) aren't still assisting those tow companies? They were on some major b.s. a few years ago!!!

Another one is the coppers who own the valet services in 018?

Why doesn't anyone look into those scandals? Illegal parking privileges! Ever try and find parking down there?

I've heard many complaints and problems and outright mafia games played out there. They've had some b.s. going on for years.

Maybe I'll be the investigative reporter and bring my video camera with me just like I did at Dugans. (joke).

I rememebr some years back when a scandal was brewing. The feds were all over the district. Everyone knew it, even the newest recruits. Yet, did that stop anyone from doing business as ususal?

It is no longer a matter of honesty and integrity. Those altruistic virtues have nothing to do with the modern Chicago Police Department. Nope, it has to do with one thing and one thing only.

It is the one thing that cops have been guilty of for years. It is plain, old fashioned STUPIDITY.

Most of you people have no common sense or horse sense- you know the sense that horses have that keep them from betting on humans.

So, asking for people to play by the rules is a waste of effort. Stupid people will continue to do stupid things.

The real scandal in the towing is that the drivers listen to the
scanners, resond to the accident, bullshit the victim(s) into letting them tow the vehicles. The tow drivers take the vehilces to their own yard and hold them for ransom.

THese assholes are so bold that I've seem one tell the beat car to 'go fuck himself" This was at scene where my son was involved. THe tow driver tried to solicite me I told him I was a policeman and to leave, he refused. He was told that he would be arrested, beaten, have his truck towed and damaged. THe piece of shit left and wasn't able to fuck anyone at that scene.

I was in 16 about 10 yrs ago when the new Commander came in chased all the traffic cars and made them go on the watch. Several on them were indicted and took a deal with the Feds. I don't recall the Commander but he attempted to stop the tow business that was going on in 16.

Any copper that allows a tow truck driver on their scene, relocate a vehicle, or solicit business without a permit to the parties involved are idiots and deserve the punishment handed down. To risk your freedom and pension so you dont have to sit on a non driveable vehicle is the typical Chicago PD lazy way of doing your job.
Heard through the grape vine that some coppers in 025 also got caught up in this new scandal and that 016 issued a "ZERO TOLERANCE" on tow trucks and were instructed to write them for any and every violation they observe.

I work a radar car on Lake Shore Drive. I pretend the tow truck drivers are FBI agents trying to bet me indicted. A lot of those tow truck drivers have criminal backgrounds; they can't wait to go to the "G" with a copper willing to lose his job over "peanuts".

Isn't it ironic (don't ya thing) that despite the length of time these "scandals" have been going on, all the stripping of powers, and leaks to the media are happening at a time the contract negotiations are being stalled,??? So that once the negotiations begin again, and the details are "leaked" to the public the outcry will be CPD doesn't need/deserve a single damn benefit. So we'll end up losing anything worthwhile, and getting a lump of nothing tied is a pretty pretty bow and the FOP will rave about how great their negotiations skills are. ?????
