Zeckman Story

  • ...
Ah, screw it. We're going to address something that's been appearing in our comment sections over the past few days.

Seems Pam was mugged on the north side recently. Some cretins stole her purse and everything in it according to one report. The officers responded promptly, gave Pam Soll Zeckman a report and then did what every decent hard working copper does, even if it's just for a few minutes:
  • Toured the area
Many times, you never get anything out of this. A lot of times, it's just a line in a report. But most cops will at least circle the surrounding blocks, go through a few alleys, some even look in gangways and trash cans because if you try, you might find the purse 10 or 15% of the time. Sometimes you even find a subject matching the description (5% of the time maybe).

According to a poster, the cops found an offender with his ill-gotten gains. Hooray for the good guys! Right? Well, if the comments are true, Pam refused to prosecute. We guess it would have hurt her police hating credentials if she actually, you know, cooperated with the police in putting someone who deserved to be locked up, in jail. Kind of like when one of the "ope-rahs" (Mope-rah? Dope-rah?) refused to sign complaints on a car thief that was actually apprehended in her car.

Evil police - remember that.

UPDATE: Some comments are coming in that it was a "Theft from Auto" case and on-site security may have had involvement. Whatever. If you don't want the person who is breaking into your car or taking your property apprehended, just leave the car windows down, the apartment doors unlocked, and walk down the street wearing a suit made of $20 dollar bills. That way you can feel all righteous and noble about giving thugs a second chance to commit their crimes against somebody less enlightened than you are who actually likes owning property.

fuck you media. Always trying to hurt the people out there making the city/state a better place to live in.

They don't even have the courage to press charges to get criminals off our streets, now these criminals can do it again or even hurt someone. The media, cowards with a lying pen.

Instead the media enjoys jamming up coppers. In all my life I've never seen such a distance between the police vs the media, public, and courts. Its pathetic.

Pam Zekman was the victim of a crime previously.

In 1985 she was married to Judge Zagel and they lived in the area of Addison and Sheridan Road.

CIU was under the command of Commander James Fruin and his sergeants included John Farrell and Mike Hoke. They followed a burglar who broke into the Zagel/Zekman residence. As he fled they arrested him and he was prosecuted and convicted.

It appears that Zagel must of pursued the matter and not Zekman.

She wasn't mugged. She was shopping at Jewel at Sheridan and Montrose and left her purse unattened in the cart. Some fine, unstanding Uptown resident decided to help himself to her wallet. Pammie alerted to security and they caught they guy. Property recovered. Victim doesn't want to prosecute...19P squad.

According to my sources, supervisors in A/3 thought this was a newsworthy case (um, a stupid woman leaving her purse unattended while shopping is news?)

Anyhow, the thief has a record as long as Seiser's....oh, nevermind.... He was charged with a felony regardless. End of story.

It seems you can't do anything to please her, I'm only glad that the goofs didn't decide to fight. Pam would be calling for their (officers) heads on a platter for doing what she could not, catch the bad guys. What an ungrateful person. I'm sure she FEELS sorry for the thugs that stole her purse, they only needed the money to buy food right.

A SMART POLICE OFFICER WOULD HOLD ON TO THE OFFENDERS INFO AND WHEN HE VICTIMIZES AGAIN LET THE NEW VICTIM THANK PAM PERSONALLY FOR NOT PUTTING THE JAGOFF IN PRISION. MAYBE EVEN LEAK IT OUT TO A FEW RIVAL NEWS STATIONS.

I'd hand the purse right back and say, "Cya!". Ought to change the law, so that the acto of calling the police is the same as stating that you will sign a complaint. You make a call, offender on scene, that's it. Get the number from dispatch, list it on the complaint, copy of complaint goes to victim, provide court info. Off to the clink. Otherwise, DON'T CALL! Don't wast our time. Police get called when someone goes to jail. Period. We don't rescue puppies. We don't care that you 'dont want to make a big stink'...you called, you made a stink, too little to late. here's when you have court. cya.

On what beat (number) did Zekman's "mugging" occur? Any weapon displayed or physical injuries? If adult(s), did the offender(s) have a sheet? If so, sum it up with charges and dispositions.

Isn't the correct spelling of her last name "ZEKMAN" (no "c")?

That is her right to refuse, correct? I mean, whose property was it? Does the state take over total authority in order for the police to make their career on it? Even Pam Zeckman is allowed to decide just how wronged she was.

THEN YOU DO NOT CALL THE POLICE....how does it go from a 911 emergency to an "oh well. no biggie". Hell, might as well dial 911 just to chat. "911, what is your emergency?" "Well, my neighbor threatened me. I really don't care, it doesn't but me. I don't want a report and certainly don't want to pursue the matter. Can you send a squad right away so I can tell them all about it? It would feel so good to tell someone about my day" WTF?!?!?!?! Get a spouse or at the very least a dog.

This is the same Pam Zeckman who is the daughter of a prominent eye doctor. When she did a big expose of an eye doctor who was in direct competition with Daddy back in the 1980's which brought down the doc (Dr. Resnick who was on TV all the time), she never mentioned that Resnick was Daddy's competition.

She looks like a ferrett and had the ethics of a rat.

Should turn the tables. FOP should call a press conference, saying they have major news about CPD criminal activity. Once the gallery is full of newstakers ready to do their job, FOP should say, "hey, thank's for coming. Ah, we decided it's really no big deal after all. Really don't want to make a stink! Have a nice day!" Like THEY wouldn't be all indignent that their time was wasted. It's our JOB to POLICE, not hug and listen.

pam was totally within her right to refuse to prosecute. her property was recovered without harm to any of the good citizens of the uptown area. why is it that you bogus police want to lock everybody up? dont u guys know what its like to get everything for free? u know link card, public housing, welfare, free medical, free education, free everything. pam left her purse unattended so it was "free" for the taking. the people just be acting the way they been trained-- take everything for free. big thanks to all you liberal fucks that have ruined this country. and pam--hopefully next time you get clowned on big time. and dont even bother calling the police. instead ask for the jagoff you refused to have locked up, im sure he will be there to help you. you stupid fuck.

Another fucking social liberal who complains about crime, bad police and the work they do, and feels sorry for criminals that they have to resort to a life of criminal to pay for their college education, etc.

Next time she wants help call one of her media friends. Maybe they can do a story and appeal to the righteous morals of the criminal to return the purse and give the offender a job at the paper.

Jimmy Fruin was a great boss and we should have a whole bunch like him instead of the morons we currently have.

He had some of the finest detectives this department ever had working for him in different units including John Farrell, Mike Hoke, Tony DeLeonardis and Jimmy Jones. That group could handle anything sucessfully.

WTF wuld you go and get Zekmans stuff back.....At least they got the ol F'U and hopefully it opened their eyes when she said she didn't want to prosecute....."Thaks boys for getting my purse back." Just hope they weren't stupid enough to show her who he was.....because you know she'd grab her microphone and go ask the offender if the police abused him.

Way to go up there.....Coppurs should take some days indeed for that violation.

11/17/2007 07:19:00 AM

********************

The idea here is that if you don't want to prosecute, it can only mean that your property meant little or nothing to you. If that is the case, then why did she call the police? Police are there to lock up bad guys. As people get away with stuff, they tend to get bolder in their crimes.
The basis for this line of thought is New York City under former Commissioner (and current LAPD Chief) William Bratton. Do a Google search on the "Broken Windows" theory of crime fighting. Get the bad guys while they are doing low level stuff, before they graduate to the big leagues. Crime dropped dramatically when this line of crime fighting was followed to the "T" in New York.

How about inventorying her wallet, checking the "hold for investigation" box, and then form 54 only AFTER she signs complaints.

You should always inventory evidence of a crime to cover yer a$$.

Who is to say everything you recovered from that offender and gave back to her was actually hers? Maybe $5 and the condom was his.

You are correct, however she never called 911 to say she DIDN'T need the police. If dude has your shit and you don't want him locked up then handle it yourself. Or, take dude to small claims court.

Many a time I have made property owners come to the district to recover property that I inventoried because they
wanted me to take it from mr x and give it to them.
However, that was back in the day when a W/C would back his guys.

The hardest part of the "broken windows" theory is to get today's big city cop to enforce it! I see many officers on this blog regularly bash each other for what they perceive as poor police service in their upper class neighborhoods, particularly 008, 016 and 022. But how many of us
ignore those same calls in other neighborhoods? How many groups of alcoholic beverage sipping teens (or even adults) do we drive through, with no challenge to them? No orders from us that they pour it out and leave the area? And do we remain on the scene to ensure that the folks who called us DON'T HAVE TO CALL US BACK AGAIN? I have had to call back many a beat car that left a public nuisance complaint exactly the same as how they found it, with little or no direct enforcement action taken whatsoever. I've said it before, we're our own worst enemy, and poor supervision is a blight upon this Dept., which is why we are all paying a heavy price for poor efforts on both fronts for many years, and have been doing so for the past year.
I would take the "broken windows" theory even further. I'd make sure that liquor stores and "clubs" that routinely attracted disturbances and violent outbreaks be closed asap, without hearings. 3 or more documented incidents? You aren't doing enough as the owner/operator to ensure the public peace, and your license would be pulled. Think of how peaceful our nights on patrol would be with all the "hotspots" shut down. Think about all the responsible owners of these places, and the army of private security they would have to hire.
Our workload would probably be cut by at least a third. No winos consuming large amounts of alcohol from the worst offending stores (Rothchilds, numerous Foremost stores on the northside, Kenwood liquors, etc.) and less public disturbances/robberies of these alcohol addicted persons at or near those locations, because they'd all be DRY. But of course, City Hall drags it feat in pulling liquor licenses, which perpetuates this social problem.
