This woman is amazing! Just read her reasoning:
- The family of Michael “Walking Mike” Cranston bears some of the responsibility for his hit-and-run death, says the attorney for the man accused of running him down.
After learning Marcus Hampton would not face reckless homicide charges in the death of Cranston on Vollmer Road, defense attorney Tamara Holder said Cranston’s family had a “duty to keep him off the streets.” Family members have said Cranston suffered from mental disabilities.
A mentally handicapped individual roaming the streets. Legs chopped off by a speeding car. And the lawyer blames the victim's family, saying that they had a “duty to keep him off the streets.”
Does any of this sound familiar? Mope-rah, you want to chime in here? Maybe that a family has certain obligations to make sure a mentally handicapped old lady isn't swinging a hammer at police and social workers sent to check on her?
Let's expand this even further - let's say a person of limited IQ, maybe not mentally handicapped, but let's just say muddled by dropping out of school, a few years in the joint, frequent alcohol usage, a marijuana habit, maybe some harder stuff. He goes on a beer run, gets stopped by the police, fails to follow verbal direction, goes for a pistol and gets shot by the police. Couldn't we say that his family, heck, his community, had an obligation to keep him from having an illegal and unregistered handgun in a vehicle and then driving so that he brings attention to himself and ends up dead? We think we can.
Thanks Tamara Holder! We appreciate the fact that you like to assign responsibility to the families to keep the mentally deficient out of trouble. It certainly makes the jobs of police officers easier and shifts the blame from us.

off topic. i was thinking of the conversations i heard on am 780 and how the black community feels they cannot trust the police, seeing that the police have killed a few bad guys lately. It really bothers me how the media exploits this. Why does the media not exploit the true problem, black on black crime. How many black males were killed by black males last year??? How many by the police?????????? i think the media should expose this fact and shock the liberals that the police are not responsible for every black male's death.

First, I am not the police, so don't blame them for my forthcoming statement. This is typical for defense attorneys to blame the victim. As someone who has been affected personally by murder, I know. The killer, he's a killer, he killed that poor man then hid his body to cover up his crime, should have been charged with reckless homicide, hiding a homicide, and any other charge he could have been charged with, and like a previous poster said he should be given the electric chair. These killers have to be held accountable for their actions or they will continue to kill. They know how the criminal justice system works better than anyone. Why would anyone be offended when the police stop people, they do so to possibly get killers like this one off the street. Indeed! Unless there is undeniable evidence I,as a policeman, usually give people the benefit of the doubt because I understand things aren't always what they seem but I truly think he did it and he is so confident that they can't prove he murdered the third wife and he hid the missing wife so good they will never find her. When he looked into the camera to tell her to come home I could see a giant FUCK YOU in his eyes. I hope if strong evidence shows up in either case they take their time and block out the public pressure.

As for the poster who questions the analogy, I immediately made the same connection when I read the article. It's the EXACT same thing. You can't blame one without exonerating the other. I'd also very much like to hear what Ms. Mitchell has to say about this attorneys synopsis of this situation.
Having said that, the attorneys remarks made my blood run cold. First of all, what kind of a human being (lawyer) could actually make the statement she made without having a shred of embarassment or shame. How bad does she need to win a case? What do her remarks say about her as an ethical, compassionate or religious human being?
As for the offender, while this appears to have initially truly been a tragic accident, his behavior subsequent to realizing that he killed someone, was akin to those two savages who cut that baby out of that poor woman's stomach some years ago. And representative of the lack of value and sanctity for human life that is pervasive in the black "community" (where, according to the dead rapper's girlfriend, everyone has a criminal history but nobody is a criminal). It's very sad that there are no African-Americans that will step to the forefront. Why, why do they allow all these storefront preachers to represent the black voice of America through the national media?
Mary Mitchell and other local black journalists have admitted that blacks have a taboo about "airing their dirty laundry" in public. 1. Why? What do they think they are hiding? 2. It sure doesn't seem like they are discussing it in private because it is plain for all to see that nothing has happened since Dr. King died. Nothing.
