The Next Superintendent?
- Mayor Jerry Abramson said this morning that a team looking for a new police superintendent in Chicago has contacted Louisville Police Chief Robert White about the job.
Abramson said White is being considered but it is unclear how many other people are being looked at for the position. - White said he couldn't comment.
"I am not in a position to talk about it," he said.
Someone mentioned in the comments that Chief White worked for Ramsey in the past? In DC?
Whatever. Chief White's denial speaks volumes about whether he was approached. The only thing giving this any credence is that the mayor of Louisville leaked it out. We are pretty sure that anyone publicly named in a Chicago paper would be a case of classic misdirection by the Daley's people. Perhaps the mayor of Louisville is just playing hardball with his people, letting the chief know that he wouldn't be missed if he left or some other such message.
Expect more of these stories in the coming weeks.

If this rumor does come to pass, LMPD Chief Robert C. White will be compared to Gen. George Armstrong Custer approaching Little Big Horn.
For his sake and a mere 30K salary increase, let's hope Charles Ramsay or someone gives this poor guy a clue.
Aside from Jesus Christ Himself, anyone, insider or outsider, who actually attempts to become the CPD's top cop is doomed to abject failure and humiliation.
Any informed outside police executives know that the Chicago P.D. is one huge corrupt clusterfuck because of Daley and his clout, cronyism, nepotism and his politcal patronage stranglehold on the morale of this once proud P.D.
If Chief White is crazy enough to become another Daley puppet, he deserves his fate.
So the big question here is who investigated this police shooting, the dics or OPS civilians??

Officer involved in fatal shooting on West Side

A person was fatally shot by a Chicago police officer at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the South Austin neighborhood on the city's West Side.
Police pulled over a vehicle in the 0-99 block of North Lorel Avenue, according to Ilana Rosenzweig, a spokeswoman for the Police Office of Professional Standards. The officer fatally shot a person inside the vehicle, Rosenzweig said.
A gun was recovered at the scene, but Rosenzweig did not indicate whether it was the weapon fired by the officer or by the dead person. No additional information about the incident was immediately available.
The Office of Professional Standards will conduct a full investigation, Rosenzweig said.

First of all , all officers involved are OK. One dead offender.
One in custody. Dic's were told to secure the scene until OPS arived. Took them a while to get there.
The shoot was legit. Simple traffic stop, offender gets out of the car with a loaded pistol in his hand, officers order him to drop the weapon and open fire when he fails to comply. Good job 015th district. Empty shells form a pattern of retreating back to the squad car for cover. Excellent response by 015 and TRU cars, Prevented any big crowds from gathering. Bosses on scene were excellent.

Robert White was the Chief in Greensboro North Carolina. By the time he left here he had succeeded in almost ruining the Police Department. He disbanded several units, only to create them all over again. These bone headed actions only cost the citizens of Greensboro money, time, and placed the city into situations that compromised the safety of all, citizens and Police. Greensboro has not yet recovered from his term. I don't know if anyone from the search committee reads this blog, but if they do, hiring White would be foolish, and more importantly, dangerous. Eyeryone in Chicago would be far more safe if White were to be rejected.

As a non police looking in your window it would seem to my observation that the answer to all this strife and turmoil in the black community would be to flood the Black areas with Black officers and supervisors. Make the next several promotion lists all Black officers. They will have pride in their people and area and the people will look up to them and see the honesty and integrity they display. If there should possibly be a shooting or a complaint hearing we will know it is not racially motivated. The Black Officers must be doing something right as I do not recall seeing any incidents involving them but I have seen several news releases showing Civic groups giving awards to Black officers.

I keep hearing all about the SOS case and everything that goes with it. Was this a confidential investigation or did the P.O.'s know about these allegations before they were stripped? Also what about the statute of limitations in Illinois, I am sure that the States Attorney knew the timetable the were operating on but did statute of limitations concerns hinder other cases?

No way would I even consider the top job in Chicago. Too much turmoil, too much negative media attention.
