Quick Hits (post #3,000!!!)

Three thousand posts. Nine hundred and fourteen days. 1.8 million visitors viewing pages 5.6 million times. Goddamn, that's impressive. Thank you. On to the Quick Hits!

Good News to start! Cops, once again, are heroes. From the Sun Times:
  • A woman became trapped in a burning vehicle at West Fillmore Street and South Central Park Avenue about 3:25 p.m. An officer rescued the woman when he pulled her from the vehicle
It was actually 3 in the morning and our good news spotters say there were two cops, not just one. But hey, why be accurate? It's only the Sun Times. Channel 5 has better coverage and reveals that the car was allegedly stolen.

Better News to continue!
  • Ald. Howard Brookins (21st) faces eviction from his law office and campaign headquarters because he's failed to pay the rent for six months.

This marks the second time this year that Brookins has been accused in a lawsuit of failing to pay office bills on time.
Hopefully, this will take him out of the race for State's Attorney, even though if you elect him he PROMISES that he'll indict one police officer a month. You heard right - that's his campaign pledge on Channel 2 a few weeks back. One officer a month. Perhaps we could indict one aldercreature a month for theft of services?

A sad note:
  • Evel Knievel, the red-white-and-blue-spangled motorcycle daredevil whose jumps over Greyhound buses, live sharks and Idaho's Snake River Canyon made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69.
Another touchstone of childhood passes into history.

And we think that laughs at the expense of true Blackhawks fans are just a tiny bit out of line. After all, our team has been the laughingstock of the league for a decade.
  • Illinois Republicans have come up with a creative way to protest the governor's decision to attend a hockey game in Chicago instead of staying down in Springfield this week. It's an attempt at a little fun. The Illinois G.O.P. is raffling off a chance to be governor for a day, which means no work, a lot of play, including tickets to a hockey game and a stylish haircut.
But if it fills the UC, we guess Rocky Wirtz doesn't mind selling extra tickets.

UPDATE: post corrected for Wirtz brother

well lets see.... 3000 threads, average 200 posts per thread, 600,000 posts... divide that by 65% censorship... thats 390,000 lost opinions! So I guess if I were Second City Censor I woldnt be patting myself on the back so much! Congrats, Chairman Mao, on making sure the public is informed on what YOU feel they should be informed on.

the Mayor brought my attention to this bog. SCC maybe you didn't do any research on my profile.

I will go after whistleblowers. People who are disloyal to me and to the chain of command will suffer...The CPD is a para military institution and we will start acting like one. SCC I know who you are, and we will be meeting very soon! I'm not worried after I am done with you, you will be begging to retire.

I figured out how to view the blog on department computers. Simply subscribe to Google Reader (free) pick Second City as one of your blogs. Then you just have to log on and you can read the blog. Simple as that. You cannot read the comments, but most of them are garbage anyway.

Dear Dumbass,

We don't know where you get your numbers unless (what's that smell?) you're pulling them out of your ass. That must be it. Since we instituted moderated commentary, our visits have more than DOUBLED, almost TRIPLED daily. We've also kept a running tally of the percentage of comments censored.

As of today's date, we still publish 96.753% of all comments submitted.

A long time ago, longer than you've been reading evidently, we made a list of banned words, phrases, names and such and the last line of that list stated we would not publish any blanket criticisms of ourselves that had no basis in reality. We've published plenty of criticism based on people's perception of our heavy handedness and corrected their misperceptions.

Consider this your kick in the ass. If you're incapable of cognizant thought and putting that thought into pixels on a computer screen, blame that on your short-bus education. We run the site. This is perhaps the only known corner of the universe in which the Rule of Seiser does not hold sway. Whether or not that is because he chooses to let us be is immaterial.

So take your Mao references and stick them back where they came from. Every time we see something of yours, we are going to shitcan it. Will you slip some through? Undoubtedly, but you'll have to change your writing style and such to get it past us and that means no one will know that it was you anyway - just like a few other underwhelming intellects that attempt to infest the board. We win in any case.

And we weren't patting ourselves on the back, we were thanking readers - you know, the polite thing to do? Now go re-inflate your latex woman, turn out the lights in mommy's basement and try for that little rubber boy you and the missus have been trying to get for the past decade of so. You're almost there.

I could never understand why people bitch and complain about someone else's site. Nobody is forcing you to read here. If you don't like it, don't read it. If you're unhappy with the content, start your own blog or forum. It can't get any easier than that.

On a more pleasant note...

Congrats, SCC.

I wonder how the "FAIR" Alderman Brookins felt about this response, from his own people....(from the Trib)

Ald. Howard Brookins Jr. (21st), a critic of police abuses who is running for Cook County state's attorney, asked Starks why most shootings are in African-American neighborhoods.

"The only reason I can say to you is that we have a high number of calls for service where police officers are responding to firearms [reports] and are met with individuals who have firearms. ... When we have had these incidents, we have recovered firearms," Starks said

I'll tell you why. THe "OTHER" neighborhoods don't have children listening to rap music, filled with hatred and lyrics filled with ideas of shooting, sex, stealing, drugs, and cons. I'm 42 years old and love my rock and roll. We all know the Rolling Stones were in rough shape through most of their career but never did they brag about what you hear in most rap music. Maybe the Alderman should contact Bill Cosby, and ask him why "BAD NEIGHBORHOODS" are consistant with certain demographics.

Exactly.

One thing, though, let's leave Bill Cosby out of it, he's gotten enough grief from being honest, accurate and outspoken in the past, and what came of it, not a damn thing, other than that grief.

Rap Crap still pollutes the minds and hearts of most black youth, the volume of it drowning out any and all efforts by their saner peers and those few honest voices in their communities to penetrate their easily influenced minds.

Not likely to change anytime soon.

Rap-Crap is being blasted by CPD cops in the 5th District patrol locker room and the ball-less supervisors don't say a word about it. Between the music and the foul punk-ass gang-bangerlanguage, the place sounds like a Friday night street corner in Englewood than a police facility. About as un-professional as you can possibly get.

Who's the hater SCC? Sound's personal. Did SCC maybe stuff someone in a locker in high school? Stick a kick-me sign on one too many asses? SCC doesn't have to look for pat's on the back. He know's exactly where to find them. Thanks SCC for giving Power to the People!

I wouldn't put Rap music as the source for malcontent children.
I work in 022, and I can say that I've had to lock up more than my fair share of copper's kids. WHITE copper's kids. And let's not forget the one who shot & killed his Sgt. father a few years back.
Can't blame that on rap. I would expect that supervisors have more to do than monitor what music is played in a locker room. If you're in there to the point of being offended, then you've spent too much time IN the locker room!
Do what you do during your tour of duty; tune it out!

Nothing personal, Ald. Brookins, but if you can't handle the rent, I don't see you handling the job you're gunning for very well either. If you drop out now, you'll save yourself some serious embarrassment (and a whole lot of campaign debt!).

Rap music vs. Rock music.

Just look at the artists.

The Beach Boys never tried killing the Beatles.

Can Tupac say that?

Nope--no grave phone.
