Undetermined?

  • The woman found with a knife through her chest Friday in Lincoln Park does not appear to have been a victim of criminal sexual assault or robbery, police said. The ongoing death investigation had not been declared a homicide as of Friday evening.

"There was no sign of a struggle," Chicago Police Officer John Mirabelli said late Friday afternoon. "Right now detectives are interviewing friends and family to see if the victim (previously) demonstrated signs of distress."
She had a knife through her chest. A knife that was left embedded in her body. Is there any reason this could not conceivably be declared a homicide? Seriously. We'd really like to know. We've heard a few war stories about mentally disturbed individuals who had the superhuman strength and wherewithal to actually push a knife into their body, but it has been awhile.

when I was a new policeman in the late 1970's, I was detailed to 001 for my training

We responded to a call of a woman down in the skid row area which is now the approximately where Presidential Towers is located

What we found was a bloody nude woman laying on a dirt floor in a structure the exact address and nauture escapes me.

What I recall as we were carrying her to the wagon was the bloody stringy hair and the grotesque angle that her head was dangling which idicated to my untrained eye that her neck was broken

Our D/C was Paul V (St Paul) McLaughlin from Bridgeport I think

Anyway I was trained to understand that there was to be no crime in 001 and we made the Hospitalization case report as a Death Invetigation

That and the businessmen who were robbed by hookers had their crimes reported as Lost & Found were enough to let me know that I was truly in for 20 years of Vaudeville and a pension.

It was actually 30 years of Vaudeville but whos counting

Anyway I wish you all a happy healthy prosperous New Year

SCC, unless you have been to this crime scene or actually worked one in your career (not talking about putting up the tape, standing around smoking a cig telling people not to get to close), don't judge what is going on behind the scenes. I have worked many deaths where the initial observation looked like a homicide, but later turned out to be a suicide. If we find a note or other evidence of suicide, we don't run out and tell everybody what we found. Speculate all you want, but there's more to the story than you know. Its investigated, reported and notifications made to the proper chain. Onto the next victim....

Don't blame the Area Dets. for no information. 35th and Michigan want to control these investigation and the information even they sit downtown on their asses (or their brains)

John Miribelliis just a circus boy for the yellow bellied bosses and ghe media. None down there ever had an original thought in their lives.

SCC you must remember that the end of the year is coming.

This will be carried as a death investigation just like the man who died during the commission of an armed robbery in 2001 in 025.

By carrying his death as a death investigation, which it still is, then Chief Cline was able to keep the homicide count from going over 600.

That is why if the FEDS come in and investigate our crime reporting that Cline, Malloy, Maher and the two mopes who work outside her office will be putting orange jump suits on.

Starks was right. He was saying that no chickens, ducks, or turkeys were responsible. He eliminated fowl as suspects.

Well she did have medical training. She was an M.D. If anyone would know how to disrupt their body's major systems with minimal pain, it would be a doctor.

Maybe she was sad. I mean the holiday's are a tough time for those suffering from depression.

I think it could be self inflicted.

Cops shoot themselves all the time. So why would it be so unusual for a Doctor to stab one's self with a surgical knive!

Women don't commit suicide by stabbing themselves! They may cut their wrists, swallow pills, but we don't stab ourselves in the chest. It would be too hard to get through those ribs, breast bone, etc.

If it's unknown, it's a death investigation until evidence shows it's a homicide.

With no witnesses, the first step is that the knife handle will be tested for prints and DNA- first compared to the victim, and if no match, compared in AFIS and CODIS. That will take about 6 months or more with the backlog at ISP lab.

Find out how things work before you whine. It is possible to jam a knife into your own chest. Why don't you try it and see?

Officers need to start useing the proper ucr codes, and stop helping the city keep the numbers down. I see many job across the city where a person is shot, dead on the scene, the crime lab is requested, and still the RD # is pulled for a agg batt rather than the 0110 Homicide.

The first year of killing the homicide rate I was assigned a job (in late december) of a woman foung between two buildings with a brick in her head and her pants around her ankles. Silly me, I got a number for 0110. Dics came out had me go over the air and change the number to a death investigation. Killing crime and making the boss look good, that what its all about.

A knife through the chest does not a homicide make and what appears to the untrained eye to be a broken neck does not a homicide make....The Medical Examiner will make that determination.

When you are at the lowest homicide rate since 1965, why the fuck would anybody risk their freedom and their job to cover up a homicide?? Get real folks!! There is only one thing that determines what is and what is not a homicide. That one thing is called EVIDENCE. So please keep your ignorant opinions to yourselves and refrain from making uneducated, untrue and downright distasteful allegations of misconduct in the handling of investigations. It is something you obviously know very little about.

The less that is said about any investigation, the better!!

Committing suicide by stabbing one's self in the chest can and does happen.

About 8 years or so ago, I went to to a job where Joey Zagar was standing there with a knife sticking out of his chest. The knife was buried up to the handle. He just stood there smoking a cigarette. (When I told him that smoking was dangerous to his health, he didn't get it) His story was that the knife slipped while he was cutting pizza. Zaqgar had a long history of hurting himself.

He recovered only to eventually commit suiside by cop a few years later.

The POs involved were just recently cleared in civil court.

Evidence you say? Sounds like Sgt Hoot Moron was at the crime scene and surmised that a black hawk helicopter flew under a gaggle of guess and dropped the knife that was found in the woman's chest. Of couse marvelous Marv agreed with him in order to keep his D-3 position so he could write real estate estimates on his duty hours. That's a hoot!

Written by someone who knows NOTHING about investigations! yes she was found with a knife in here chest, absolutely suspicious, but there was no scene Sherlock Holmes, the area being undisturbed is very signifigent; no sign of a struggle, she wasn't robbed, no sign of her being thrown from or dragged out of a vehicle whatsoever, so nothing is ruled out. It is proper to classify as a death investigation until more is learned, I.E. the autopsy. Was she sexually assaulted? etc. too many unanswered questions to just rule it a Homicide yet. As too the reference to TRU, my mind boggles, I see them out on stops all night long working, funny, I don't see much of that in 018....
