- The San Francisco Police Department confirmed that a tiger escaped its confinement at the San Francisco Zoo, then attacked and killed a visitor.
Two others were injured by the tiger, which entered a cafe inside the zoo. The injured were taken to an area hospital.
The tiger was shot to death when it started moving toward a group of approaching police officers, said police spokesman Sgt. Steve Mannina. Several officers shot it with handguns, he said.
No word on whether the officers got to keep the pelt.

According to the local newspaper www.SFGate.com, the tiger did NOT enter a cafe.
Still, how in the hell did he get loose? Story doesn't say "human error", etc.
SFPD uses the Glock .40 S&W caliber with hollow-points.
Are all the nuts from PETA upset? If they had their way they'd have the officers arrested for cruelty and not using other means to bring the animal down rather than killing it.

Police reported that the tiger pointed a handgun at them, forcing them to open fire. A department spokesperson reported that a handgun was recovered from the scene.

I was jogging with my dog from Fort Funston along the Great Highway overlooking the Pacific. When we got to Sloat Blvd. near the entrance to the zoo, San Francisco police were everywhere. The officers from the Taraval station were all wondering how she got out.
This just in...The Alliance of Gay Reverends for the Advancement of Asian Carnivores has issued a statement condemning "this as yet another act of Police Brutality against their comunity.This young,murdered Tiger had planned to start collage at Clemson and had the potential of being a top meat eater in his class.He also was to do some modeling for Kellogg Frosted Flakes to earn some money for his babies mommas."
Marches at the Zoo are being planned and no pictures of the slain Tiger in his cap and gown are as yet available
Image if you would if such a tragedy was to happen at lincolnpark zoo.....IPRA would be involved to review if the police shooting the tiger was justified, all the good reverends would be up in arms since the public would assume the tiger was african. The tribune and fox tv would interview the 3 other tigers who would all say he had turned his life around and became domesticated and had only been wild in his youth.

The tiger's family issued a statement saying that the tiger was turning its life around and didn't deserve to be shot.
Someone mentioned .40 cal, well they at least practice. Our guy's would have shot at the tiger 168 times and missed. Then blamed the gun or ammo.
Before the good reverands could get involved we would have to determine the religous back ground of the tiger. This of course after alderman Burke's law firm conntacted the Tiger's family.

I spoke to a friend with the SFPD. By a process of elimination, responding officers from the Taraval station theorize that with a running start, Tatiana was athletic enough to spring across the moat and scale a twenty foot wall.
The big cats are well fed. Authorities are also exploring the possibility that someone may have been taunting the Siberian tigress, possibly by throwing missiles at her.
According to SFPD Chief Heather Fong, the location has been declared a crime scene. The identity of the fatally mauled man remains unknown.
The Lincoln Park Zoo has two Siberian tigers, a male and a female.
Whats crazy with the report I read was that the officers only shot after the tiger turned in their direction and pointed a sharp claw at them, so in fear for their lives, they killed the tiger. No seriouly, they wrote that they entered the zoo, found one dead guy, then the tiger was sitting with another dude who was bleeding, and instead of shooting the tiger right then, they wrote, they only shot after the tiger turned in their direction. I guess they were afraid of a lawsuit! Fucking tiger lawyers!!

I know for a fact that the tiger was just in the process of turning his life around. He was on his way to get a job application and sign up for GED classes. Just Because he had a prior arrest for attacking a zoo keeper it did not make him a criminal. Then he wanted to become a brain surgeon, or was it a rapper? Anyways he was attempting to throw off the shackles imposed upon him by "THE MAN" when in a rage of Justifiable social anger he attacked a person to vent his rage against the machine. The police then shot him for no reason, called him feline slurs as they did it and stood over the body laughing as they reloaded and fired again. I saw the whole thing, well, maybe not the whole thing. OK I got it third hand from Pumba who heard it from Garfield who heard it from Felix. But if you put a news camera in my face then I saw the whole thing.

Does a tiger commit a crime by being a tiger? Did the tiger book a flight from Siberia and carefully plot the "murder" three innocents San Fran?
OR,
was the tiger (or its ancestor) snatched from its natural environment and tossed in a cage from which to be ogled for the rest of its life? Just wondering.
Yes, this was a tragedy but it's important to remember that the fault lies not with the tiger but with the zoo. It was the zoo's responsiblity to protect both the tiger and the guests. It failed spectacularly on both accounts. Naturally a tiger's responsiblity is only to be itself.

This story kind of reminds me of the guy who was known as Mr. Bear. He'd gone to Alaska many times and defecated in the wild with the Bears or some such warm and fuzzy earth mammal shit.
