Police Week Info

Never too early to start making plans:
  • Police Week 2008 May 13-16, 2008 Washington DC
  • A block of rooms has been reserved at the Embassy Suites Hotel in DC. The rate is $279/night. This year rooms are at a premium because of a medical convention in town. This rate includes a free happy hour every night and a free cooked-to order breakfast daily.
  • We are currently working on airfare in order to ensure the lowest possible group rate.
  • There will be a private Chicago Police party at Fado Irish Pub in Chinatown, date and time TBD.
  • 194 Police Officers will be added to the wall this year.
  • The Chicago Police Department has always had one of the biggest groups attending. Please help us keep this tradition.
  • Contact info: EMAIL- CPDPOLICEWEEK@aol.com Please contact us to reserve a room or for more information.
Drop them a line.

"This year rooms are at a premium because of a medical convention in town"

Does this mean lots of attractive nurses from around the country will be in attendance? That would add even more incentive to attend this noble and worthwhile event

Hellooooo, nurse!

Hey SCC,

This is way off topic and I'm asking a favor. No one is better at getting the word out than this site, so I'd like to ask your help in getting the word out about the below metioned event.

When I sent this to my home e-mail from work so I could post this since deprtment computers won't let me on the site, it came through underlined and I couldn't remove that, but when I pasted it on here I didn't see the lines, so I hope that you receive the pasted part clearly without the lines.

I obviously don't know who you are so I won't be able to thank you personally, so thanks in advance if you agree to post.

Another Scoop for SCC!

The Chicago Fire Department has challenged the Chicago Police Department to see who can raise more money for St. Baldrick’s, a charity that raises funds for childhood cancer research by getting volunteers to seek pledges to have their heads shaved in support of the children who lose their hair to chemotherapy treatments. If you don’t feel up to the challenge of shaving your head entirely, anyone with hair longer than twelve inches can donate their hair to be used in the making of wigs for these kids, or you can sign up to be a volunteer. If anyone is or knows a licensed barber or beautician that can help out, we can definitely use their help as well.

Our event will be on Friday, 14 March from 0600 – 1700 hours at the Academy gym. We started early so midnight officers can make it, and there will most likely be morning show news coverage.

The districts should be receiving a poster and letter explaining the event during the week of 04 or 11 February, but you heard it here first.

For more information and to sign up as a shavee, barber, or volunteer go to www.stbaldricks.org/events/event_info.html?EventKey=2008|898 and follow the prompts for registering or learning more about St. Baldrick’s. I can also be contacted via e-mail at chromedome1269@sbcglobal.net

Thanks!

To 11:03 it would be great for the military guys to make their own teams within the event and see who can outdo each other, and here - here on the McCain vote.

To retired believer, first and foremost my best wishes to your son as he goes through the chemo and the rest of his challenges that lie ahead. I can't get over how just about everyone is touched in one way or another by cancer.

As far as your question, if his hair is longer than 12 inches it can be donated for use in the wigs, otherwise, he can still participate as a shavee and seek contributions for getting his head shaved.

Anyone who signs up on the web page can sign up as an individual or a team and once a team is created others can join the team when approved by whoever started that team.

Thanks for the inquiries!

Thanks SCC for the POLICE WEEK post.
Chicago Police Members should watch the Daily Bulletin for notice of availability of Police Week Information Guides that will be mailed to you via Inter-Dept Mail upon request.
If attending the Memorial this year
[a good idea] it provides a guide to all the activities there for the CPD.
Stay Safe and God speed my brothers

Just another meet of political hack cops. Union folks traveling on your union dues. Ever see all the different committees the F.O.P. has. Get on the awards committee and your dues is free plus $1500 cash bonus. These posts are filled with buddies of the union reps.

The National Police Memorial in D.C. is a GREAT time and a moving and worthwhile event. If you have not gone, you don't know what you're missing! IT's been described as Spring Break for the Police (which, it basically is!),but it means a hell of a lot more. Believe me, it's party, party, party, but when you are not laughing, you may be crying. Coppers from all over the country and the world (always a large group of bobbies from England travel across the pond) get together to honor our brothers and sisters who have made the ultimate sacrifice. If you have any questions or would like to book a room, please e mail the website and include a cell phone number you can be reached at. I'll try to call you ASAP and let you know the gory details. Everyone is welcome, police or otherwise. If you attend once, you will want to go every year! As for the medical convention and nurses, you might need to watch reruns of Grey's Anatomy and study up! Special thanks to SCC for posting this info! Hope to hear from many of you soon! Let's be careful out there!

To the person that wrote some discouraging words about the National Police Memorial, I am in no way, shape or form a "buddy of a union rep", or a "political hack cop", nor am I a FOP delegate or watch rep. My only connection to FOP is that I am a member. Myself and several other coppers arrange this trip on our own time with NO help or assistance from the department or the FOP! We use our own comp time for days off for the trip and get no perks or special consideration. Gee whiz, we even have to pay for our own hotel rooms (and food and booze and airfare and sight seeing and taxis, etc,,,)!!! If you have ever delt with putting together a fund raiser or retirement party, you understand how difficult it can be. Imagine making out of town travel arrangements for over 50 hotel rooms worth of Chicago coppers. It is a complete and utter pain in the ass! We do it because the National Memorial is a tribute to all Police Officers, living and dead. It is an opportunity to meet other brothers in blue and grieve (and party)together. It is our one chance every year to show bereved families that we will NEVER forget and that their loved ones did not die in vain. As a quote at the memorial states, "In valor, there is hope". But, I suppose, some people just don't get it! If that is the case, then I wish you the best of luck in the rest oy your police career. You are going to need it.

YES, your 10 y.o. will have a great learning experience.
Do your own sightseeing while there.
The only thing that it is requested is that you attend the candle light vigil on the 13th {No uniform required, but a real eye-opening, moving experience] AND the main event at the Capitol on the 15th. Family members, friends, retirees not in uniform fall in behind the CPD contingent as an additional show of supporton that date.
Wait until Special Functions publishes notice in the Daily Bulletin to receive the 'Unofficial CPD Washington DC Police Memorial Guide' and they'll send you one in the police mail. I found it all-inclusive last year and answered all my questions/concerns. In the mean time contact the officer who puts together the rooms and/or airfare together usually on an annual basis.
BOTTOM LINE:
Take your family and/or 10 y.o.+
It'll be a toss up WHO was most impressed by what they saw and experienced there. Disregard those posters that talk all the other BS. They're either trolls or there for the WRONG REASON.
Like it said said in the handout last year......

All Gave Some Beacause Some Gave All.

Amen bro'
I'm going again this year for the right reason we should ALL consider attending. Those who care, know what I mean.
Stay Safe one and all!!!!
