Unpreventable

A little food for thought for all "nanny state" believers:
  • The day after the shootings at Virginia Tech last spring, Northern Illinois University President John Peters issued a letter saying the school would take a hard look at its security plan to make sure NIU was prepared in case of a similar crisis.
  • Following the shooting Thursday at NIU, campus officials said that while no system could prevent such an attack, their system worked well in response to the tragedy.
  • "You know, I wish I could tell you that there was a panacea for this kind of a thing, but you've noticed that there's been multiple shootings all over this country within the last six months," said NIU Police Chief Don Grady. "It's a horrendous circumstance, and as much as we do, it's unlikely that anyone would ever have the ability to stop an incident like this from beginning."
Wow. Don't pat yourselves on the back too hard there NIU. "[T]heir system worked well in response to the tragedy"? Evidently, NIU has decided that 5 dead and 16 wounded is the best they can do. That's their threshold of "acceptable casualties."

And this quote? "it's unlikely that anyone would ever have the ability to stop an incident like this from beginning."? Nothing like a completely unprovable blanket statement of surrender, by the Chief of the NIU Police, no less. No one could possibly know if an armed professor or an armed student could have stopped this. And thanks to gun grabbers like Daley, Blago, Stroger, Suffredin and the entire political establishment in Illinois, no one will ever know if it could have been stopped.

If the voters in Illinois consent to be disarmed, then every damn one of them better evaluate what their level of "acceptable casualties" is going to be. Because police can't be everywhere and when they do get there, they're just going to be cleaning up more dead students put there by psychos that don't follow the law.

How bout giving our returning War

I mean, they bore arms overseas; we trusted them to capture/kill our enemies. Are they all of a sudden stupid because they're discharged?(HR218 ring bells?)
Great job of attacking this issue right away,SCC; dont let the looney left get any traction...

The only ways in which the citizens can be disarmed is to disarm themselves voluntarily, or to be disarmed by those employed in law enforcement.

The laws have only the weight those who enforce the laws give them.

Discretion is the key.

Are there enough law enforcement officers who understand the powers inherent in 'the officer's discretion' out there, to PROTECT the citizens' 2nd Amendment Rights, despite the legislators contempt for same?

ummm... I believe Virginia is a "shall issue" state, so while you gun nuts are quick to point out the fact that conceal carry laws MAY have prevented this tragedy, I will be just as quick to point out that a conceal carry law DID NOT PREVENT A MUCH WORSE TRAGEDY THAN THIS ONE!

In a state that has concealed carry laws, 32 victims perished at the hands of a gun wielding nut!

In a similar incident in a non conceal carry state, only 5 died. So I guess taking all into perspective, and since you brought it up, SCC, yes, 5 dead is much better than 32!

Conceal carry did NOTHING IN VIRGINIA! 32 DEAD! Where was this phantom armed professor? Or this phantom armed student??? Can anyone tell me of any university that allows its professors or students to pack even if their state allows conceal carry? Or any that would even be willing to? Anyways, wasnt there, didnt help... So rant all you want, gun freak, but the facts are simple...

Using your weird deduction of reasoning, one could conclude there is over 6 times the correlation between innocent deaths in conceal carry states as non conceal carry states (5 versus 32 Illinois no conceal carry law Virginia has conceal carry laws)

So keep screaming bloody murder, but if there were no guns, there would have been no massacre! (unless you use the pipe bomb/ dirty bomb/nuke argument which is just as far out there as an armed professor)

By the way, when was the last school massacre in England at the hands of a lone gunman? Ireland? Scotland? (countries I could go on for pages) Oh, thats right, THEY DONT HAVE GUNS! Gun nuts, realize YOU ARE THE PROBLEM! V Tech versus NIU they have pro gun laws...they lost 32 we have anti gun laws we only lose 5 so whos the winner? Stats dont lie!

Dunblane, Sctoland 1996, 16 children slaughtered in a grade school by a gun wielding maniac in your supposed gun free example.

And even though Virginia is a concealed carry state, Virginia Tech is a GUN FREE ZONE! That's right moron, the entire state is a Concealed Carry state, but the University denied these young adults their rights NOT to become victims and then provided inadequate police to protect them. VT even move to expel a student who had been authorized by the State to carry a weapon for bringing his pistol on campus less than 12 months before the slaughter.

Nice of you to research your flimsy argument. Asshat.

You can't compare Europe to the USA in reguards to gun control. Europeans have not had a weapons culture like the U.S thru time. Hunting rifles and shotguns yes, not really much in handguns. Most of Europe thru time has always had a strong ruling class keeping the peasant down. The U.S. is a melting pot country, where lots of the world's undesirables ended up, thus causing some of the trouble in the states. Remember Cuba? Dumping its convicts here. How many other counties did the same?

Just like the guy who wants to ambush and kill a Police officer there is nothing we can do to stop that, only try to deter it. The response we have after that is what separates those who have a plan in place and those who don't. We may never know actions law enforcement took at NIU but I will give them the benefit of the doubt that their response saved some lives, unlike the response at Columbine.

So take your righteous attitude and shove it up your ass. This is not a Police state we live in, we have a constitution that we have to abide by. Unfortunately the bad guys don't have to follow the rules.

What happened at NIU was a tragedy perpetrated by a mad-man, don't blame law enforcement.

I think what the NIU police chief said was honest. In a society where guns are readily available to the average person situations like this have and will happen again. Not just in universities but in shopping malls, the workplace, ect. I know when I say we live in a violent society I know I'm "preaching to the chior." We as Police Officers are realists out of necessity. The NIU Police Dept could've no more prevented this tragedy than we can prevent the HUNDREDS of homocides that occur in this city each year. After reviewing what happened,I'm sure the university will improve/increase security for students and staff. With that said, nothing is guarenteed. We as coppers know everyone is going to monday morning quarterback this unfortunate event. We've been catching flack from quite a few lately. Even if students and staff start packing heat like the wild west this kind of thing could still happen.(In fact such an occurance would be even more commonplace.)I'm not saying citizens should disarm but firearms mixed with the human element can make for some violent and tragic situations.

Statistics, which I presume is what you meant to type, lie all the time, depending upon what false impressions or conclusions the liars who quote them want to promote.

The more inherent a liar you are, the more lies you will seek to promote and the more selective you will be when you quote meaningless, ie. less meaningful, statistics.

It takes intelligence to appreciate the value of truth.

It takes a lack of intelligence to value only as much truth as promotes your agenda, said meager portion of the truth being used to coat and conceal the lies you seek the be accepted as truth.

'Oh what a tangled web we weave, when we practice to deceive.'

Not to worry.

What a crock of shit! Every years end the City of Chicago, boast on its low murder rates via guns or any other weapons. The City has thousands of armed Police Officers and yet people are murdered, battered on a daily basic. But every year they (the CPS) give themselves an atta boy and trot out the stats and percentages as some weird justification for thier exsistence. If there is a person consumed with the idea of creating mayhem armed with a gun or a bat, if his/her determination is there, the chances on stopping them before they commit their wanton acs of violence is close to nil. We have had presidents surrounded by armed security, who weren't safe. Gun violence is a people problem, it will not be solved by disarming or arming people. In a free society, like it or not our liberties and safety can be jeopardized by the acts of others, its one of the backlashes for living in America

What the fuck do you think is happening right now, you moron.

What do you think the criminals are doing, obeying the law?

Make that 'hundreds' more like tens of thousands.

All violating the law, not merely by possessing firearms, but by using them to commit crimes.

And do you really think that you can buy your safety with the taxes you pay?

Even if half of those taxes were to be actually spent intelligently and honestly?

Darwin was correct.

Survival of the fittest is a law of nature.

A law which, for now, you've been able to violate and still survive.

Don't thank the lawmakers for that temporary gift, thank those who are armed and who are not, by natural law, criminals.

Here's a fact for you: In every place concealed carry for citizens has been approved, Repeat-EVERY PLACE, violent crime goes down!! Repeat-DOWN!

Robert H. Heinlein said it right "an armed society is a polite society."

Concealed carry states don't have verbal altercations running out of hand with wild west type shootings. People who obtain carry permits are law abiding citizens. Law abiding citizens by and large don't do stupid shit like that.....because they are LAW ABIDING!!

Criminals are just that, criminals. They do criminal acts, like shooting people when they're not supposed to, stealing from people, hurting and maiming people. The police cannot be everywhere, so you as a citizen should be prepared. If you depend wholly on the police to protect you, then you're a victim waiting to happen.

The politicians who preach gun control are usually the most well protected people (meaning armed guards/police). Look at King Richard II....he's never been without an armed bodyguard his entire life. I want to see him preach the same sermon if the day should ever come when he has no bodyguard. Until he's a "regular Joe," he can go fuck himself.

While highly restrictive, the UK still has people that own and shoot guns legally! You should see some of the "bolt action" AR's some of them have over there. And no magazine restrictions. All must belong to gun clubs.

http://www.ar15.com/content/page.html?id=235

France allows its citizen to own "with registration" any "non military" caliber pistol, rifle, shotgun. Lots of .223 remington AR's over there.

Germany has over 10 million legal gun owners. They all belong to gun clubs by law, and lots of paper work to get the license, but no outright ban.

Australia also still allows gun ownership threw shooting clubs as well, but with restrictions on types of guns, and calibers.

So liberals who like to spout off about how other countries "ban guns" better do a little research first.

Also, I'll have you know that we haven't had a single panty raid on the NIU campus during my watch. We've had no reports of exposed female breasts during Halloween or Mardi Gras revelry for two years.

NIU be da REAL PO-leece.

Nice of you to avoid, completely, addressing any of the the issues you originally chose to express your opinions on.

When all you have left is to criticize style, it leads one to conclude that you've run out of substance.

Are you really out of gas on this subject?
