More Cameras
Motorists who run red lights or park in the path of Chicago’s 118 street sweepers will have a far greater chance of getting caught on Candid Camera, thanks to $59.2 million in contracts awarded by the city last month.
Arizona-based Redflex Traffic Systems has installed red light cameras at 69 accident-prone Chicago intersections since 2003, pumping out more than 800,000 in citations at $90 a pop. The fine was recently raised to $100 to scale back Mayor Daley’s record property tax increase.
Now the company that ushered in the brave new world of traffic enforcement in Chicago will do the same at 220 additional intersections by 2012, dramatically increasing annual red light revenues expected to rise to $50 million this year.

$236,236.24 per camera? And that was the lowest bid? Are you fricking kidding me? Hire more coppers, make more traffic cars, give us the option of wrting the parker for or the mover, let's see what happens...
I hate those damn things!
How many city workers does it take to install a "red-light" camera?
Who cares; it only takes one shot gun shell to de-commission it.
generate 50 million dollars this year huh...but there is no money for the Police contract!
You know, in Britain people destroy these things with burning tires.
I'm just sayin'...
what we really need is a " no more duckin" camera. they can be strategically placed at all exits at city hall. city hall employees will be required to get a chip placed into their neck like we currently do with dogs and cats. you come in late we take your picture and you get docked. you leave early and we have you on film and you will be sent fine in mail for ducking.
Can we set it up to deduct said citation fees directly from LINK cards? Otherwise only the working people are paying for this b.s.

I like where you are going with that, but let's be honest, when's the last time you stopped a car being driven by alink card holder that was properly registered without a fictious temp tag?

As always. Haven't you been to traffic court and seen the mopes with no money getting continuance after continuance to pay a small fine? They never pay. Never have. The way to get them is to do it on the street, impound that car, that is all the fine they are likely to get, hook that ride, that is the worst than can happen to many.
I have gotten more satisfaction out of hooking some shitbags ride than trying to put them in IDOC. I had a guy the other day, felon on parole, got 6 years in Nov 2006 and was out getting caught again. Time to go back to truth in sentencing in state court.
How many cameras are in the 10th Dist or in Little Village? In 7th or 4?Only in areas where people can pay the $90. This is racism and Bullshit. How about a story about that??
Mein Daley Ja das ist Good
China gets the Olympics and it is a police state so Daley thinks Chicago has to be one too
If it were not for the city job, who the fuck in their right mind would live in Chicago? A town where you are constantly being monitored and taxed while trying to avoid being harassed by out of control welfare maggots and dodging illegal aliens!
Thanks again you dumb fucks for voting for Daley!
hahahaha samson
What happens if the "official" reason for putting these cameras in actually work "reduce red light runners and accidents"?
Where will the revenue come from in that case?
MinisterP = Not a cop but a ULC Minister
the city needs to install a camera within commander carroll's office so the taxpayers of the city can observe just what D.B. & K.K. do to earn their salary.
Let's get some of those pyromaniac Limeys over here!
just do like all the shit heads do......have no plates on your car and just tape the bill of sale or some piece of paper that says " temp registration" in the back window ........and say it's all good though right officer??????
Put them on the side street's at stop signs.
Put them on street sweepers.
Put them on the front of buses.
I obey the law.
we all should.
Better then raising my taxes.
Get a can of coverspray before they make it illegal...check out this website. It reflects the light from the camera on your plate.

.....all of which are UNCONSTITUTIONAL. A nice settlement will be handed out eventually.
where the fuck is all this money going? where did the skyway money go? Fucking dumbass media never investigates the REAL scandals!!! We cant get a raise but all of this money the city NEVER had before is going where?
why are they still houndin us for movers?
Suppose you drive 30mph down a major arterial street--say Central ave. How many red lights would you expect to get in 3 miles? One, two, or EVERY ONE OF THEM? How about we time the lights on Michigan ave. as badly as the city times them on other streets? Then put red light cameras on Michigan ave and watch the revenue SOAR! If you had a fair chance of making a light, I don't think as many would be ran.
"Can we set it up to deduct said citation fees directly from LINK cards? Otherwise only the working people are paying for this b.s."
I agree, but they won't know which link card to deduct with their cars having BS plates.
And did you read that it is Burke and a Daley friend that are involved in this contract!!! More city hall insider shit. Does it ever end? Of course I forgot Daley has no friends when it comes to insider information and contracts. He probably has no son too. And people vote for this Piece of Shit.
Sam Bass
of course the city is addicted to the money, and the county too; Democrats do what they do best, tax and spend. A little off topic, but story in the paper today has business owners worried that buyers and shoppers will go out of the county, or to Indiana, to do their shopping (hell, I already go to Indiana); but I wonder, how many of those business owners are lifelong Democrats, who voted for Stroger, and keep voting for Daley?
That's every busy and most small intersections in this greedy ass town!
No wonder people hate Chicago!
MOVERS!MOVERS!MOVERS!...ITS ALL ABOUT REVENUE!KEEP WRITING.THATS WHAT THE LITTLE FART WANTS!
Lets get some of those cameras in 016. How about Addison/Harlem, Cumberland/Irving, and Addison/Narragansett.
All these cameras do is generate revenue for city hall. I can't believe the public hasn't called foul on them. Last week I was traveling southbound on Kedzie when an ambulance activated the emergency lights. Joe good citizen was already in the center of the intersection attempting to make an eastbound turn. The ambulance pulled around, the citizen waited, and the light turned red. What was Mr. Joe citizen suppose to do? Go backwards? Stay in the middle of the intersection? No, he did what he should have done, completed his turn. Guess what? The city camera got a great big snapshot of his vehicle "GOING THROUGH A RED LIGHT" Now, same scenario, CPD copper sees this incident and knows that the citizen did what was right and allows the person to go on his way. OH NO!!!! Wait a Minute!!!! No revenue collected by the city. And this boys and girls, is why the city is installing more cameras rather than hiring more cops. Cops use common sense (or at least they are suppose to) Cameras don't.
Thank God for the shitheads. Finally. They pay so I don't have to.

Myth Busters did a special on photoblockers. None of them worked.

City workers dont install these units. A private contractor from out of state installs these. Of course they are not licensed in city for the electrical involved but what the heck lets give all the work away

The cameras do not work like that. You have to break the sensors at the white line while the light is already red to trip the system on your car. If you are already in the intersection your ok. In the case you described the system probable caught the ambulance. If the emergency lights were on the ticket will get tossed.

Absolutely! The better government association would be interested too.
There are too many ducks at the airport. Sponsored by Ducks Unlimited: Jimmy Carol; President
Ponder this:
one hour duck a day equals a minimum of 200 stolen hours a year. That's a minimum of $7,000 tax dollars of work not performed.

Next time you see a bogus registration on a vehicle do not stop that car. Let the dick's cameras make the stop.
Hey dicky, So you think you can replace the real police: next time your citizens need police service, they can dial 911 and ask to have a camera dispatch. See how long it takes for the camera to get there. If they don't show up: SPAR the camera. LOL

Because our stupid bosses don't know what else to do.
Index crap justifies the bosses existence.

Damn straight! I already shop for liquor, beer, cigarettes, gas and water in Indiana, The money I save is wagered at the casinos where I can smoke my cigarettes.

Where is the electricians union?
Do these scabs park legally when installing these cameras.
I write parkers on the bus shelter cleaners.
wonde that 50 million is going to be used for

SHUT THE FUCK UP AND MAKE A FORMAL CR COMPLAINT ALREADY BLOWHARD
Guys,
We've had ATS (traffic light) cameras over here for years and most people think that they're a good thing. You only need to lose 1 friend to a dickhead red light jumper to be convinced.
Re: Speed cameras. There's thousands and thousands over here and people hate them. If they were placed outside schools and in High Streets then you could see the logic but they're not, in the main. You'll usually find them in de-restricted areas (70mph) and set at 80mph to catch otherwise-law-abiding people. Most people would cut them up with an angle grinder!
The big problem is where the (huge amount of) revenue goes. It gets pumped sraight back into central government so more taxes.
They've just installed 1 camera in each lane on the (London Orbital) M25 motorway near to Heathrow for a distance of about 10 miles and set the limit at 80mph (70 + 10% +2) and people will be getting $150 fines and 3 points on their driving licence. 12 points is an automatic ban for 12 months. Keep your eyes peeled!!!

If you're a copper, pretty sad you don't know the law:
605 ILCS 10/27.2
Sec. 27.2. Obstruction of registration plate visibility to electronic image recording.
(a) A person may not operate on a toll highway any motor vehicle that is equipped with tinted plastic or tinted glass registration plate covers or any covers, coating, wrappings, materials, streaking, distorting, holographic, reflective, or other devices that obstruct the visibility or electronic image recording of the plate.
Subsection b enforces this by local law enforcement agencies. If there is a cover, it can be confiscated. If the plate itself is sprayed and altered/defaced, the plate can be confiscated and SOS will revoke the plate and $1,000 fine.
just crash your new squad cars into poles with cameras........takes care of red light camera, ruins the camera in your car, and go on IOD till the end of summer......everyone is a winner!!!!!!!!!
question......back a few years ago, there was a story to the effect that the city's collection rate for anov's was about 5%; supposedly, they hired a collection firm to try and chase people down to collect the fines. With regard to the redlight cameras (and I still find it hard to believe that they are constitutional), anyone know what the collection rate is, and, how about a breakdown, by race or gender, if possible, maybe by zipcode of the plate.....
I write parkers on the bus shelter cleaners.

Wow, you should be proud. What no cracked windshields on working guys?
u r a pimp
Forty percent of all collisions occur at intersections. Red light runners are my greatest fear as a motorist. In Chicago, red means go as fast as you possibly can---three more cars, a Wolley Cab and two CTA busses. It will save lives...I wish you guys would write more movers----it gives you PC to eventually search for contraband and it is also the prelude to the Broken Windows theory of crime prevention.

Yes good theory. Do you really think that really makes driver's think twice about running a red light no. I used to wright at least twenty red light movers a month it was easy (79th and vincennes). went to court testified and liberal judge tosses most of them out citing that driver needed a break. so i just gave up.it's not worth the hassel anymore because tommorrow is another day and driver's will continue to run the lights because they have to get to Mcdonalds even though it's a twenty four hour drive through. Oh silly me.
Where's Elliot Ness?

You should change that to your light turns green, sit and wait, look both ways, then MAYBE go. If there is one thing that dissapoints me is that when I am in Chicago I NEVER see cops writing tickets. When did this change? When I was a kid I was always looking out for cops.
My personal opinion---fuck the cameras. You go through a light you get shot in the neck with a poison blow dart.
That's how much I hate those motherfuckers.
