1. Why doesn't the city hire police officers? We are dangerously low,below 10,000 sworn members when it should be 13,500.
2. Why is the city unjustly stripping and firing Chicago police officers?
3. Why do we have to wait years for a contract and then receive a paltry 1% cost of living raise?
4. Ask the Superintendent to define MERIT,this should be interesting.
5. Why does MERIT exist and could the percentage be reduced to 10%.
6. Ask about the nonexistent morale problem and how he will address it and boost it.
7. Ask why we are still working 6 days in a row and why we don't have the ten hour day like he promised.
Please,circulate this information to everyone and call in. Be sincere,well mannered, courteous, polite and prepared. They will screen callers to avoid this situation so you may have to fabricate a story for the call screener to get on the air. There should be thousands of calls on Thursday, jamming up WLS's phone lines for hours. This is OUR chance to present our side to the citizens of the USA. WLS is a nationally broadcast station and the show is also simulcast worldwide on the internet.
Imagine if all the calls he got were from cops. This is doable. If nothing else, it'd be entertaining as hell.

I think the answer to reduce gun violence is to develop a community policing strategy. We can place about 10 police officers in every district to assist in community policing.
Every beat will have a meeting every month with the officers who work the beat. We will promise these citizens to solve all of their problems. (From street lights out to littering on their grass). Hopefully we can get 10 - 20 citizens each month to participate.
This will scare the gangs into peaceful methods.

Today is the day that the Sean Bell verdict will be released in NYC. For those who don't know 3 NYPD MOS/brothers were indicted for murder after they opened up on his car. Sean Bell was attempting to run a NYPD MOS over at the time and was killed. Ironically,Sean Bell was drunk hanging at a strip club all night and was due to be married within hours of the incident.
The incident was played up as a super racially charged murder by the police,although one of the shooters on trial is black.
Fat Al Sharpton is threatening a potential for violence if things don't go right,meaning if they are found not guilty. The NYPD expects trouble and is deploying 1,000 MOS at the courthouse and a sizeable contingency at the place of incident.
This could be NYC's Rodney King riots and has the potential to spill over into other cities.

With the CFD your name has to be submitted before any of the testing process and them you have to take both parts of the test and end up with a 70% or better to get Merited.

Just about everything in the media concerning the most recent rash of murders is either "more and stricter gun laws" and "the police and even National Guard to get the gang bangers off the street.
NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has questioned the judges and the state attorneys office for their part in the "criminal justice system". As I remember gun court, it was a joke with the motion to suppress rulings. Even if found guilty; probation, supervision, time considered served, etc. had the offender out of the building before the officer could sign out.
It amazes me that you can find out who your dist. comm. is, who your aldercrook is, who your state repres. is. BUT, who is the judge who hears the cases for shoplifting at your local stores, who hears the disorderly conduct, assault, battery, damage to property cases in your neighborhood and what does he do about it.
Many times on this blog people have said "vote No" for all retention of judges you do not know for a fact that are doing a good job.
Maybe the chief judge of the court should revamp their system so judges are more responsible for their decisions and sentences.
Oh well, tomorrow I'll solve the budget defeceit.

Weapons Cache Found in Florida Girl's Tree House
ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — A father on Florida's southwest coast made a surprising find in his daughter's tree house — a cache of weapons and ammunition.
Thomas O'Connell of Englewood called the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office on Monday when he found a bed sheet stuffed with guns, bullets and knives in the tree house. Investigators say the stockpile included a sawed-off shotgun, folding knives, ear plugs and more than 340 rounds of ammunition.
A sheriff's office spokesman says O'Connell's 13-year-old daughter wasn't involved in stockpiling the weapons. One of the guns was reported stolen from a Port Charlotte home in December.

PBA AIDING CITIES THAT POACH COPS

April 23, 2008 -- The city's police union is looking for few good cops - to leave the NYPD.
In a move that further strains relations between the PBA and Mayor Bloomberg, the union will allow better-paying police departments around the country to place recruitment ads - free of charge - in the union's monthly magazine.
"Our members are sick and tired of the rhetoric that praises us for our work, credits us for making the city economically viable, and then tells us that the richest city in America can't afford to pay its police as much as cities with smaller tax bases and lower property values," said PBA president Patrick Lynch.
Lynch said his members are constantly asking for help in finding opportunities "where they can get to make a better living and feed their family" in cities that pay more than the Big Apple - and now the union is giving its all.
"It is a disgrace," Bloomberg declared, blaming the union for the $25,100 starting pay for cops "because the PBA wanted" to give more money to senior members.

5 PEOPLE SHOT DEAD ON SOUTHSIDE
Five people have reportedly been fatally shot on the South Side on Wednesday afternoon.
About 3:45 p.m., ambulances responded to the 7600 block of South Rhodes Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs Asst. Director Eve Rodriguez.
She said five people were shot dead at that address.
A Cook County Medical Examiner's office spokesman said the office had not been notified of the deaths as of 4:02 p.m.

9161 is the code for Police Officer; it does not include Detective, FTO, Evidence Technician, Marine Unit Officer, Mounted Unit Officer, Police Agent and other non-9161 title codes which are officers below the rank of Sergeant.
For an accurate count of those below the rank of Sergeant, go to an FOP General Meeting and listen to the count of dues paying members. It is near the beginning and it will include 9161 and all other title codes below the rank of sergeant.
That count will be everyone getting a paycheck below Sgt, There are many more officers besides 9161 who are not supervisors and who are FOP dues paying members, not including retirees.
To get an accurate count of total strength you count ALL the title codes, not just 9161, that is probably news to those who keep posting their latest I-Clear "discovery."
Oh, the department also includes title codes for Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Commander and other exempt ranks. Not just 9161.
Getting an I-Clear printout of 9161 only gives you a count of the basic entry level police officer. There are many more title codes within the CPD.

Today is the day that the Sean Bell verdict will be released in NYC. For those who don't know 3 NYPD MOS/brothers were indicted for murder after they opened up on his car. Sean Bell was attempting to run a NYPD MOS over at the time and was killed. Ironically,Sean Bell was drunk hanging at a strip club all night and was due to be married within hours of the incident.
The incident was played up as a super racially charged murder by the police,although one of the shooters on trial is black.
Fat Al Sharpton is threatening a potential for violence if things don't go right,meaning if they are found not guilty. The NYPD expects trouble and is deploying 1,000 MOS at the courthouse and a sizeable contingency at the place of incident.
This could be NYC's Rodney King riots and has the potential to spill over into other cities.
Be careful out there and pay attention.

I find it appalling that you would contend that violence will occur if a finding of guilty is not rendered in the Sean Bell case. I'm quite sure the black community will react in a peaceful and reasonable manner just as the white community reacted to the OJ Simpson verdict. We all respect the jury trial system because we know just verdicts are rendered – see State of California vs. OJ Simpson. As a white man I was disappointed in the OJ verdict but I accepted it as part of the American Judicial process. I'm quite sure the Rev. Sharpton will look at things the same way no matter what the verdict is.

I am a first time reader to this blog site and I listened to the radio show with great interest. Here are my first impressions: With some exceptions, obviously, it gives the impression the CPD is filled with elementary school children less concerned about the communities, flexibly adopting to change, unable to be creative and working than it is about selfishness, maintaining the status quo, defending officers that no self-respecting and professional police officer would defend and generally a low order, it's "us against them" mentality. I was personally shocked and it doesn't reflect well on the men and women in uniform. It certainly did not demonstrate the professional police I have experienced in other large cities. It reinforced in me that image I had from last spring of the police rallying to defend that off-duty, drunk, officer that brutally beat the young woman. Be careful you don't migrate his felonious activity to the entire department by "rallying around" a thug. No mondern and professional police would act that way. This isn't the 1930's and the lessons and practices of your fathers and grandfathers should be re-evaluated if you want to be a respected police force. I have travelled and worked with many police agencies around the world and the CPD does not enjoy a reputation as a professional, 21st century, police force. It represents a museum illustrating the past. It is unfortunate, because I have seen some great work by the CPD. But it gets lost in the self-centered, hysterical screed that the show's callers and many on this blog represent. Do not embrace thugs, condemn them with pity. Embrace the change as an opportunity to influence and bring new ideas to the leadership before things are set. Abandon the selfish whining about "uniforms" and stuff like that...people are dying in your city and THAT's what is important? Time to self-evaluate.
