Daley Says What Now?

Earlier today, Daley came out in support of Mell's Law, but not for the obvious reason of re-registering Mell's "arsenal":
  • Mayor Daley said today he's all for the idea of temporarily re-opening gun registration in Chicago -- not as a favor to Ald. Richard Mell (33rd), but to get a realistic handle on the number of guns in Chicago.
Aha! Daley sees a chance at more tax money. All those missed registration fees must add up. Daley is already attempting to sue e-Bay and other online ticket resellers who don't pay city taxes on Chicago event tickets. The funny thing is, Daley's been turning down this "extra" money for a while now as pointed out by the FOP President:
  • "We have retired police officers who have a right to carry concealed weapons across the country, and they're being barred from registering their weapons in Chicago. We've taken one of these cases to Circuit Court. Dick Mell has taken his case to the City Council," the union president said.

"Whether he knows it or not, the mayor, by this agreement [to endorse a temporary gun amnesty] is establishing a double standard. One for members of the City Council, the other for everybody else."

Tens upon tens, maybe hundreds, (maybe thousands?) of retired CPD unable to register their former duty guns because they aren't aldercreatures who can pass a law to cover their lapses. All at how much per year?

We are of the opinion that registration is a pretext to confiscation at some point. Daley has no business in our homes, our papers or our possessions.

Donohue gets it. The only one who will get to take advantage of the "amnesty" is Mell. If you just heard about it, you're already too late, you had to apply before April. It's a fake amnesty.

After this all blows over and Mell re-registers his PPK, Daley will say, "See? We had an amnesty and only one person took advantage of it. Now we don't have to have another one."

Register ONLY what you need for duty. They don't need to know any more than that. I thought I was doing the right thing by registering a non-duty long gun. They made it hell when I tried to register a new duty weapon because I let the registration expire. Registration's sole purpose is for the department to keep an eye on who has what and it's the first place IAD looks. Everything you own should be safely stored in gun friendly Dupage county.

Is a retired officers expired gun registration good probable cause for a search warrant?

Or, does it have to be accompanied with unlawful use of some type?

Assuming that a retired P.O. has proper concealed carry permit and valid FOID, and has registered weapon in past , even though now expired in Chicago...what would the charge be? fine ? jail, C&D, all the above?

The FOP, Gun desk, and IROCC all have different answers.

Amazing how daley makes the effort to support a alderman but not police. Let Mell resgister his weapons. Another slap at police officers. Why can aldermen carry weapons but not retired police despite a federal law? Daley does not care about police. His father knew he needed support of officers but Daley JR offers no support. Imagine the nerve of mell to pass a law to address his specific need and to hell with everyone else. One day, Daley will wake and realize he is screwed with high crime rate.

What's all this complaining about no increases in salary, pension and medical benefits?

King Daley will take care of you. No need for part-time jobs to support your family. You don't even have to be the real police and do any heavy lifting.

Daley call it "promotions" and "the gold braid" bill. Even if you're a cowardly moron who never locked up a felon, you too can learn how to suck political cock and be financially secure for life. You even get a star and I.D. card that says you're the police (in name only).

Stop bitching and whining. "Study harder" and drop to your knees. Yada, yada, yada.

Even if I could register all my firearms with the city for for free and only once, count me as a no-show.

It's unenforceable unless the shit hits my fan. I'll take Daley's misdemeanor and sue with my FOID card in hand.

Actually, I keep all firearms in the suburbs (wink) unless I'm en route to a firing range via the Peoples' Republic of Chicago.

I'd just love to take those sandbagging whores from the area gun teams to court.

With the latest bogus firearm's charge (barrel 3/4 of an inch too short) against Drew Peterson, he's getting lots of sympathy in my circles. Either charge him with murder or quit nitpicking and leave the guy alone.

Hey, two year wonders, get a clue. Some of us are working other jobs here; some have wives still working here; some of us, like me, have children (2 working CPD) and grandchildren here and we stay close to be with and help our families. This may be hard for you self-serving dimwits to understand, but not everybody lives just for themselves like you do!

Unless i'm missing something, this won't help everybody. Unless everyone in the city tried to register during that one month, the bill won't help. It's truly only for Mell. And, who knows, maybe one other person happened to try and get rejected that same month also.

Another genius why leave when you retire when you know your neighbors and get along with people, have a house thats paid for and enjoy your life here. OH probably because I have a family here that loves me, (maybe you don't) I have a life and friends outside the department, and if I hated it that much I would have left a long time ago -grow up all you losers who can't wait to leave Chicago go now or just quit complaining about EVERYTHING. I could well be (heck, probably am) wrong, but

"...retired CPD unable to register their former duty guns"

Seems some of them can't be registered be registered anyway - check the bbarrel length. Under sixteen inches, but a long gun (rifle) rather than a pistol? Not legal, unless you are a currently serving officer.

At least that is the impression I got when a former officer (suspected of murdering one or perhaps two wives, of four) turned himself in on (possibly-bogus) gun-registration charges related to "failing to register" a weapon he had registered while on-duty but cannot now he is not on active duty.

Mell openly admits that he has a staff member submit his registration so if the staff member fills it out that means he must sign it too. Appears to be falsifying a gun registration form to me.
Wonder what gun team was looking through the registration for their next bullshit search warrant when that team came upon Mell's failure to re-register? Only way Mell found out was some copper must have told him. Don't think any of our retired guys would get the same fucking courtesy. As a matter of fact talked to a retired guy who bought a new handgun and tried to register it only to be told he was no longer the police so he could not have a new handgun in Chicago. Where the fuck is the media when it comes to the bullshit the mayor and his crew of 50 get away with? How about it media ask Mell who signed his registration forms and ask him what gun team tipped him off?

Quit bitching about having to obey laws you enforce and your retired CPD officers used to enforce.

Believe it, there is no option to not believe it. You are citizens with no more rights than any other citizen. If you enforced laws that denied rights to those you were supposed to serve, and you did, then you have no moral standing to bitch, moan and whine about having to obey them.

And don't give me that crap about how dangerous your jobs are. I worked my entire life in jobs much more dangerous, to the point that you guys weren't even in the same insurance group.

Approve this or don't, I don't care, I just want you to think about the issue, now that your "brothers" are the victims of what you did. Editorial you, not specifically you, I don't know you specifically.

"Am I wrong? Is there another justifiable reason for gun registration?

5/22/2008 09:22:00 PM"

Yes and no.

The theory of registration not concerning future confiscation is that only those who intend to unlawfully use firearms will choose not to register them, thus establishing a de facto crime being committed.

Same reason concealed carry is objected to.

Both theories giving no weight or value to the 2nd Amendment.

We have our share of "characters" that pass through and get out of hand from time to time, but that happens everywhere. Who the f--k are you to tell ANYBODY where to live.

As far as telling the retiree from Addison - Pulaski that he was stupid and should've also moved, well; kiss both of my cheeks again puke. What the f--k are you in real estate?

MM, no, I was none of those things. But I was in the same insurance group as underground miners and firemen. I think technology has made firefighting a little safer than it used to be, but still a damn dangerous job.

We died at a much faster rate than than cops. We just didn't leave work and travel all the way across the country to get face time on news cameras. We usually just took up a collection for the family and went back to work.

I do remember once we had to dig deep to send a fallen brother home to Manchester,England after he went "in the hole".

Law enforcement was two groups down from there, with the accountants, I think. Ok, maybe not so much on the accountant thing. But the statistics just don't bear out the level of risk you guys are always whining about.

Don't take my word for it. Check it out for yourself.

MM, but that isn't the issue is it?

The issue is that you knew the second amendment was part of the supreme law of the land, yet you infringed it at orders from your administration.

Now when the boot is on your foot also, you don't like it.

You know what? I don't like it either, not even when it is done to you. But I don't have a lot of sympathy for the pension seeking sycophants that were willing to deny rights to others, in violation of the oath they took.

Remember that? The one with words in it about upholding and defending the constitution. So, no. I am not sympathetic.

I do agree it is wrong, but if you can do it to me, they can do it to you. These are the rules you enforced. Whining now, is just pathetic.

We all know how Little King Richie feels about guns. He wants them all registered so he can send his anti-gin gestapo out to seize them.

He has to say he is favor of temporarily reopening registration because what else is he going to say when a powerful aldercreature, one of the few he does not control, comes up with this sham.

I seriously doubt anyone other than Mell will register any handguns if/when the amnesty happens.

And if/when the SCOTUS strikes down gun registration, don't look for the city to drop its registration requirement. It has been the cornerstone of LKR's gun control plan for nearly 30 years and provides a number of jobs and a means to confiscate guns. The city will only stop enforcing gun registration when they are sued and forced to pay out a tons of $. Maybe not even then.
