Mell forgot to re-register the weapons as required every year by the ordinance that he helped to pass as one of the City Council's most senior members.
So, what does an alderman do when he finds himself in violation of the law? He writes a new law. Mell has quietly introduced an ordinance that would reopen gun registration in Chicago and create a one-month amnesty for himself and other gun owners in the same predicament.
During the monthlong window, gun owners who attempted to re-register their guns between May 1, 2007, and April 1, 2008, only to be rejected on grounds the registrations had lapsed would be allowed to re-register without penalty.
Wow! We can see the line of GD's and vicelords is going to be way long at Gun Registration next month. They might have to put on double shifts!

I have a two bird guns, three deer rifles, two slug guns (over under & semi auto), eight pistols (two duty related) and something that'll punch through an inch of steel. I own them because I can, same reason people own multiple motorcycles, TV's, computers, comic books and sets of golf clubs.

Northside is a great school but you only get out as much as you put in. My two made it in and have done great in college (good ones). Phone calls don't work but if you think it will make the call. Just remember the call won't keep their head above water. They still have to do the work. Have them take AP classes if possible. They saved me a semester's worth of tuition at a big name school.

It isn't a question of "Need", I have no "Need" for half of the things I have whether they are guns or my SUV or my large screen tv. I buy the things I want because I want them and I can afford them. You nor anyone else has any right to tell me I can't have what I want. Perhaps someone should raid your house, what would they find? Fran Speilamn has another column on line about the mayor backing the alderman. Mayor says "there's nothing wrong with that". All this B.S. he throws out there about gun violence, but when his guy forgets, it's "there's nothing wrong with that". I noticed he kept referring to the guns as shotguns. Hey Daley there were handguns in that arsenal too. You don't hunt with those wise ass. So, where are the preachers now? And all the alderman from the lower income areas that are hit with gun violence? How come they're not on t.v. crying foul at the mayor and alderman?? And if this isn't designed to just help out the alderman then why is it that it only covers the dates surrounding his original denial and his administrative hearing? Why isn't it open to anyone who was ever denied for being late? Why is it the amnesty is going to last for only one month? Why not just change it for good and say, "if you're late it's o.k. An ASP would be considered a "billy". The "Intent to use" is the tricky part.

First of all like so many ignorant people including people collecting a CPD check (notice I didn't call them cops) you are using the wrong terminology. "Assault style" rifle is a meaningless and irrelevant term.
According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, an assault rifle is a "military firearm that is chambered for ammunition of reduced size or propellant charge and has the capacity to switch between semiautomatic and fully automatic fire."
The vast majority of weapons owned by civilians are not capable of fully automatic fire, as these are heavily regulated. Civilian AK-47s (and derivatives) for example, are manufactured without the ability to switch into fully automatic mode, thus cannot be called assault rifles.
Secondly: What makes golf a 'real' sport? It certainly isn't a recognized Olympic Games sport. Shooting has been an Olympic event since 1896.
Don't know about you, but I feel alot more comfortable facing a home invader with my AR-15 as opposed to my 5 iron.

My kid goes to Lincoln Park and has no problems and hasn't encountered any problems with Cabrini kids. They have a great International Bach. (for the super smart) program and performing arts programs. If you live further NW, Taft is getting better too.
