Rumors of St. Jude

  • Dear Superintendent Weis,

I was reading the Lieutenants Association Newsletter and was very happy to see Lieutenant Robert Stasch's article about the Saint Jude March. He is absolutely right in wanting the Saint Jude March back on Michigan Avenue.

Last year I sent an E-Mail to Superintendant Cline expressing the opinion of myself and several other officers that the Saint Jude March should be on Michigan Avenue. I received a polite respond and that was the end of it.

The decision to move the Saint Jude March to the Memorial was made by a small group of people. I think that the entire department should have been polled on this matter.

The bottom line is that we get so much negative press and I feel that when the Chicago Police Department is doing something so wonderful as honoring their fallen members that they should be in their full glory on Michigan Avenue for the whole world to see.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you in advance for any consideration given to this matter.

    Lieutenant Maureen E. Ziegenhorn
    18th District

The letter from Lt. Ziegenhorn was sent to the Superintendent on 21 May 2008. The Superintendent has responded since then to her that he is working to ensure that the St. Judes March will be held next year back on Michigan Ave. where it belongs.
We can only hope this comes true. Perhaps the vigil and recitation of the names ought to be part of a weekend worth of events with the march and Mass at Holy Name being the finale. No reason to hide the March behind Soldier Field.

I'm not a cop but I do agree with you that it should be on Michigan Ave for all to see. I admire what you guys do and believe that the good guys should get to be front and center on display.

Maybe if J-FED does that it could help boost morale a little.

Thanks for ALL that you guys do and STAY SAFE PLEASE

They built that lovely memorial and dedicated a park back there! Of course some PR flack thought that's where you'd want to march...

Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity (or ass-kissing by bureaucrats).

SCC, its pathetic to march in the new location. And the finale just ends nowhere now. Whether you are Catholic, Baptist or Agnostic the fact that it ended at Holy Name invoked the "POWER" of who we are and what we represented. It was symbolic and emotional. The new ending is anti-climatic and sends the message to us members and the public that we are insignificant and forgotten.

No can do! Next year GD's will have been allowed and have been able to secure permit for Michigan Ave.

This City and Society is half-ass-backwards!

And they wonder why crime is up... stop glorying these pieces of shit in the Media, and allow the police and good citizens to take thier streets back!

Dear SCC and Other members of CPD, as a member of another police department, I congratulate you on all that you do. I also commend those men and women that wear the blue in this city. Last night I had the fortune to drive along side members of the CPD SWAT team as they made way to Belmont and Clyblourn along the kenndey. I was very proud watching my brothers in blue and gave them a salute and a thumbs up to let them know that the community is still behind them. Although my badge belongs elsewhere, I adore each member of the CPD as bretheren. Please know brothers that although morale might be low within your ranks, your brothers in blue support you and know that it is only a few who have spoiled the splenders for the rest. We all fight the same battles "Daley" and in each other we will rise.

Why don't we reverse March on Michigan Ave and walk to the Memorial? This could serve both as our annual fitness test and inspection that J-Fed wants.

I say move it back to Michigan Ave. for sure. I would like to include one more change. Have it on a Saturday and see if the Stutering Little Prick shows up. Then the command of eyes right or left could be changed to "extend middle finger."

Baseally that's all I have to say. PS: for those of you who don't know "baseally" is in the Daley dictionary replacing the word "basically."

About ten years ago, as we were lining up for the march on Michigan AV, a couple from Scotland approached my partner and myself and asked what was going on. We explained to them that this as the St. Jude march to honor our fallen officers. The husband, after looking at all the officers lined up down Michigan says with a thick Scotish accent, "Good lord, who's watching the rest of the city." When we explained that this was not the entire police force, they were amazed. This was back when I was still proud to tell strangers I was a member of C.P.D. Alot of tourists would come out of their hotel rooms to watch the parade and you felt a certain pride having people cheer as your district marched past them. Now, not so much.

The reason St. Jude was moved, was that Cline wanted to show off what he had done.

He moved the parade.

And as for officers showing off their bullshit medals as written by Mr. Anonymous 5:43 am, you are a do nothing and don't have any.

The medals are a part of the dress uniform and are to be worn at such an event.

And in most, yes most. THOSE MEDALS WERE EARNED.

So on behalf of all those with medals, GO FUCK YOURSELF, YOU JAGOFF.

I'm amazed that people are shocked that the Catholic church will do nothing....it is just as corrupt now as it always has been... a while back, this german guy nailed a list of 95 complaints to a door.... not a whole lot has changed since then, so now is a s good a time as any to try the Lutheran church....

Rumor had it there were supposed to be snipers at the last St. Jude. There police in position on roof tops throughout the area. I kind of like the isolation from the public at the lake front. Keep St. Jude at the lake front. Parking is a lot closer, too. It could be worse, look at where the Firemen's memorial park is located. Very Shitty and hard to access without a car.

You heard about the church assisting the Nazis escape from Germany after WW2 and still you donated money to them but this idiot says bad stuff about Hillary Clinton and you are offended to the point that you will no longer donate money to them.....you need help!!!

NEW ROUTE....HOW ABOUT STARTING MARCH AT THE MEMORIAL (TO PAY RESPECT), TRAVEL NORTH UP COLUMBUS DRIVE, (WHICH WOULD BE IN PUBLIC EYE BUT NOT CREATE SUCH CONGESTION AS MICHIGAN AVE) THEN MARCH TO MILLENIUM PARK BAND SHELL, WHERE OFFICERS AND FAMILY ALIKE COULD GATHER IN A BEAUTIFUL SETTING. END CEROMONY WITH BLESSING BY CLERGY, A FEW MEANINGFUL COMMENTS, AND A TRIBUTE BY EMERALD SOCIETY IN THE FRANK GEHRY PAVILLION. NOT ONLY DOES THIS PUT TO USE THE 500 MILLION DOLLAR PARK FOR A GOOD CAUSE BUT OFFERS BENIFITS TO THE PUBLIC, OUR FAMILIES, AND TO THE HARD WORKING MEN AND WOMEN OF THIS DEPT. WE WANT TO HAVE ONE DAY WHERE WE CAN AT LEAST "FEEL" LIKE WE ARE PROUD OF THE JOB WE DO FOR THIS CITY AND ARE APPRECIATED. ASIDE FROM THE MEMORIAL, TUCKING US AWAY BEHIND SOLDIER FIELD JUST DOESN'T DO JUSTICE FOR THE SACRIFICES WE CONTINUOUSLY MAKE FOR THIS CITY AND OUR FAMILIES.

There where a bunch of guys who didn't go either..the fallen officers that we are marching to remember. The march isn't about you it's about the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrafice for this city and department. It should not be a "bother" you little brat it should be an honor. There are homes filled with children who would love to march with their fathers but can't, and I guess a few are filled with dickheads who can but choose not to. You nitwit coppers feel that the location of the march is soooo important. Why? 8am on a sunday and who is there to watch? Coppers families. The ones that really matter. Stop with the "I NEED the whole city to stop and watch in wonderment as I march". Guys, this march is not for you. It's for the officers killed and their families. I for one could care less if some "citizen" was there to witness the mass of blue. I will go and march anywhere and at any time to show respect to officers killed. The location is not important. The idea of the march is.

Sorry but I do have to agree with the poster who said St Judes has become a parade and stopped being a memorial. St Judes is a wonderful thing and great for the families of the fallen. I for one though would love to see it move back to a more solemn march in memory of those who've made the ultimate sacrifice and less of the who came-who didn't, get out of Spring Inspection that it has become. We need to concern ourselves a bit more with the purpose then the location.....

I can understand the argument that the parade should be on Michigan Avenue. One factor that should be considered, however, is the feelings of the Gold Star Family members. I talked with several of them and they love the change. It gives them the opportunity to visit the memorial and show the name of their fallen loved one and hero to the young children. I believe the feelings of this special group should be considered because isn't that what it is all about?

ST. JUDE IS ABOUT Honoring our Fallen Heroes and reflecting on there lives and what a better place to do that then at Memorial Park, where the names of our Officers are in stone. Yes, the parking situation is not the greatest, but deal with it, this day is not about us or who see's us, it's about our own who gave the the ultimate sacrifice. Stop and think when you bitch again about someting so stupid, anyone of the 520 officers who died would trade where they are at now to be where you are. It's one day out of the year....STOP complaining and thank God that it's not you we are marching for.
