And the truly sad thing is that it will cover a rogue team of allegedly unsupervised officers and tar the entire Department with it while studiously ignoring the 15 people arrested for bribes last week, the semi-annual jailing of the aldercreatures, the crooked contracting scandals, crooked land deals involving Rezko, Obama, the mayor's nephew and anyone else connected with the chosen few.

LOS ANGELES -- An FBI agent from Phoenix was indicted in Los Angeles on 18 charges that accuse him of having an affair with the wife of a man he was investigating on two separate occasions.
Joe Gordwin, 39, was arrested Thursday morning at the FBI office in Phoenix and was placed on administrative leave.

my guess is most of the cpd is pretty decent, just as most Americans are. there are always a few who make the rest look bad.
in the case of cops, it looks even worse when they go to extreme lengths to protect their colleagues when they misbehave.

I think that every SOS officer in old and new regimes should have a "Brick" placed on them for the rest of their career. Word in 35th is that they are indeed looking into how to make the officers of SOS more miserable. They have done such a disservice to the City that they will never be able to pay us back!
I don't care if the officers didn't know Finnigan and his crew, if they were in that unit for more than a day, then they need to be bricked for life. One bad seed spoils the bunch.

Comander Michael Acosta for lying to feds. Pled guilty to stealing money from a fund for officers killed in line of duty. Others such as Guerrero escaped with clout and are back on job.
Not the first scandal for this department, won't be the last. The only reason it's getting this much attention is probably that it's such a screwed up story that it could have been a movie. It's like a bad episode of The Shield. Cops stealing, indictments, betrayal, coverups, guys wanting to take each other out, feds involved. God help us.

Bea was a great commander in 10, and started out well in this new position. There are some big differences, 10 was a good place to work, (and still is,) from the bottom up. Good morale, mostly good P.O.s, good sergeants, lieutenants and captains on all three watches. There were few problems and no scandals there and only a couple of aldermen and reverends. Now imagine going from that to a position where every scandal, every Herrera, SOS, and Finnegan problem is on your desk.
There is something else, there is a long held tradition in the FBI that you never outshine the leader when it comes to taking credit. Melvin Pervis was slammed by J. Edgar Hoover for grabbing the headlines for getting Dillinger. And never, never do anything to discredit the bureau.

Those lighted beat tags are total bullshit. I'd say in the day time you had about 1-1/2 blocks of element of surprise until the bad guys saw your marked squad coming and drop that down to about 1/2-3/4 block at night. Now with the lighted beat tags, ALL the element of surprise is entirely G O N E. Who's side is the department on. Obviously, they don't want beat cops in marked squads getting the jump on offenders doing wrong. SCC, I am sure that the many Catholic officers reading this blog are as outraged as I am about the comments of that nimrod Father Pfleger. In this day and age of accountability, the Cardinal should issue a punishment greater than the verbal reprimand that Pfleger received. SCC, I'm surprised there has been no posts on the recent win for officers.
On 13 May 08 all officers subjected to the BIS/PCP were removed from aforesaid programs following an admission of liability by the department. The affected officers received written notice that the Acting Commander of Personnel "has determined that the basis for the Department's decision for enrollment was not appropriate under Administrative special order 05-02." ..."The member's placement is voided and the member's record will not reflect placement in the BIS or PCP at this time." What's this all mean? In summary, the Dept. canceled arbitration date before letting the arbitrator rule. The city then announced that they were wrong in the way they went about placing officers in the programs. Here's the catch though. No damages to be awarded to the officers. Yes you read correctly, the Dept. admits fault but will not pay out. The FOP who still has yet to formally announce this decision claims an arbitrator ruled that damages would not be awarded. It was unclear whether this was a summary opinion given by an arbitrator reviewing the case and basically giving his opinion on how another arbitrator would rule in full arbitration or if this was a precedent set years ago. We are hoping FOP clarifies this. Or was this another back door deal made between the City and FOP, disregarding the wishes of the affected officers. Any lawyers out there want a class action lawsuit against the Dept., Oh wait, FOP said we would be wasting are money and discouraged us from challenging the decision to not award damages. Hhhmmm!

I worked in SOS in for 5 years and did all my stuff by the book. I got one CR for nonsense on new years eve and never got a lawsuit and earned a few awards for good police work. You sir are what is wrong with this department. There are quite a few officers that worked in SOS that have never done anything wrong, including me. Your statements are like saying all black people are bad because of the gang bangers and criminals, or all hispanics are bad because of the gang bangers and criminals. Don't lump us all into one category based on a handful of officers. I am not only angered by your comments but also hurt. I love this deparment and I love this job. I don't care for those at 35th or city hall, but I truly care for all my brothers in blue on the street. If you've ever worked with a guy from SOS you would know that we are the first ones to back anyone up and ride on a hot call. You never have to worry about us dodging a job or talking someone out of a report.
You strike me as the reason why we as PO's are disenchanted with our supervisors, we have no leaders. The test they give for sgt and lt don't test for the leadership that we need and we are looking for. Not a wet noodle, or a spineless white shirt that we are in surely not in short supply on this department. Make decisions, stand up for your officers and try to make each officer under your watch a little more happy each day by being understanding.
Blame the ones that brought discredit to our department by being arrested and charged. Don't blame the ones that are still employed and trying to make a difference in this silly city we live in.

I was in SOS and very proud to say so! It sickens me to think about what those guys did and how the department and the city has let a few bad apples destroy our image and morale.
Regardless of what some of you mindless supercop wonders out there think about the officers who were in SOS and SOG before that and Gangs before that...It was these officers who day in and day out took the weight of the city on their shoulders. Officers in SOS were the first ones to back any of you up, stop to make sure you were ok and worked in the "shit" without complaint.
One thing you didn't hear from SOS officers was negativity towards district coppers (except for dog asses). Just because we got to SOS, we never stopped being a patrolman. We had a slightly different job and one we enjoyed. We went into your districts on a mission, but we always backed you up, we always responded for your calls for help and we never turned our backs on you. I think we deserve the same!

I think that every SOS officer in old and new regimes should have a "Brick" placed on them for the rest of their career. Word in 35th is that they are indeed looking into how to make the officers of SOS more miserable. They have done such a disservice to the City that they will never be able to pay us back!
I don't care if the officers didn't know Finnigan and his crew, if they were in that unit for more than a day, then they need to be bricked for life. One bad seed spoils the bunch.

A Chicago police officer was shot and wounded Friday evening in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood on the Near West Side.
The officer was shot in the knee and his injuries were not life-threatening, said police spokeswoman Monique Bond.
The shooting happened at West Cullerton and South Morgan Streets. Independent Police Review Authority personnel, who investigate shootings involving Chicago police officers, were en route to the scene to gather witness information.
Neither they nor Bond could immediately release further details.

It is already gone. The state pension board took care of his ass. Might get a portion for the time he was a state employee before he was the Secretary of State, which computes to $60,000.00 a year, as compared to the $200,000.00 he was going to get as a retired governor. The pension board may have rescinded the 60K also, but not sure.

You sir are 100% correct....you have a right to be angry and I feel your anger too. Anybody who thinks for even a second that the things done by this crew of criminals was right or "good police work" gone wrong is in serious need of counseling. This type of action is not only criminal, it is disgusting. The problem is that the management condoned this type of action. For years and years they wanted numbers of arrests (nobody ever cared about convictions). They had Edge missions and sweeps and "drop cases" and foot chases where the offender always had the dope still on him and he always "resisted". Remember the old adage....the fat kid in the back seat was always driving the stolen car.
The reason these guys always got their man was not because they were smarter than the rest of us and it wasn't because they were "the real police" unlike the rest of us....it's because they LIED!! I never got the awards and I never made the huge arrests that these guys did but I did my job honestly and to the best of my ability. From what I can see.....the "real police" deserve to rot in prison for what they have done to this job. Nobody believes the police anymore and I don't blame them. All this lying has caught up but what bothers me most is that that is was encouraged and condoned by management for years and years.
Quality police work was based on how many people you shot and how many arrests you made. Nobody cared about how you got there and whether what you were doing was right or wrong......Hell....there are people on this job who don't even know the difference anymore between right and wrong and that is why they are defending these pieces of shit!!

Catholic schools were NOT part of that survey. Even some public schools did not participate (New Trier, Winnetka).
Actually you are wrong. Not one Catholic school in the top high schools in the country. Two Chicago Public Schools were. One suburban public school also.

Obviously you went to CPS. If you read the article, it was a list of the top PUBLIC schools. There was not a single private or religous school on the list because those are NOT public schools. Simple, if you can read.
