Ryan Pardon?

  • When I think of Ryan, I think of the Jolly Beefeater who ruined the Republican Party in Illinois, the fellow who made the road-builders and the asphalt kings happy, the man who withdrew only $70 in cash for a year, while gambling and steak-housing his way across the state.

I think of Ryan as guilty of all those corruption counts against him, and, most important, as the Illinois politician who squashed the investigation into the deaths of the six Willis kids, who were killed in a fiery crash by a bribe-paying, unqualified truck driver when Ryan was Illinois secretary of state.

And though I may have missed it, I don't think I ever heard Daley cry out in sympathy for those children or their parents, nor Thompson, nor Big Bill Cellini's road builders, nor Tony Pucillo's bridge repair guys, nor any of the lads who showed up at Tavern on Rush or Gibsons or Luxbar to raise a glass and bemoan the fate of poor old George.
And not if we have anything to say about it either. The letters are already in the mail to the White House as we type. Rot in hell George Ryan - you earned it.

Ryan's pardon--and it would be spun as humanitarian based on his health--just could be one of Dubya's final acts before Barack Obama Bin-Laden takes over the White House.

I am a good right wing conservative republican (both large and small r) who lived in Chicago from 1990-2000. In those ten years, I don't think I ever met an actual Republican politician in Illinois.

George Ryan was a Republican, only in the sense that the power base in Kankakee County was Republican. He wanted Power, so he became a Republican.

If the Republicans were still runing Chicago, what party would the Daleys be?

Cicero & Rosemont are the "Republican" strongholds of Cook County. Republican?!?! My Ass.

My letter is going to the Withe house as well. Georgie needs to fry

Corruption fighting thompson who put so many police in jail now is fighting for a convicted felon. How money talks. Too bad Ryan doesn't talk about corruption.

One of the reasons we have among the highest taxes in the nation is the culture of corruption in this city, county and state. The bribe payers have to make up for the bribes with higher prices or cost over-runs, which is passed onto the taxpayer through higher taxes.

Our road use taxes are among the highest if not the highest in the nation and the pols are talking about special assessments for infrastructure repairs. Where have the taxes we paid for years gone?

It is time for the taxpayer to revolt and vote all of these a--holes out of office.

I am not a fan of George Ryan, but lets fact, if you have the clout than use it.

George was smart to use former Gov. Big "JIm" Thompson as his attorney. They've both contributed and worked on president Bush campaign. Will George be freed? In my opinion, I think he will be.

Again, I'm not advocating for poor George, I think he's a smart politician and will be sent home by Jan 2009.

All I can say is good for you for knowing how to work the system.

In re the first post - true, but look at all the peeps Clinton pardoned - including his own coke head brother. I'm not for Ryan getting pardoned, but it wouldn't be all that shocking if it happened come January 19th.

Bush will pardon him. The BIG $$$ crowd in this city has already got to Bush to make Fitzgerald give Daley a pass. The monied movers and shakers in this state can't allow too many more of their paid for pols to be indicted. Blago, Kjellander, and Cellini will be the last big names indicted. Remember, in 1998, Daley really backed Ryan when the Dems had a good candidate in Glenn Poshard. He was just from a different crowd.

Now get back to work, write some tickets, and be glad they're offering you and YOUR FAMILY a 1% raise!

When I saw Thompson on television, with that bullshit about justice has been served...I can't believe that he could even let those words come out of his mouth.

Let's see, the prick is responsible for six kids dying (which was how he raised money to campaign), he never apologized or admitted responsibility, he's a crook, he gave the state away and probably paved the way for people like Rezko to rape the government, he got millions in free legal representation and justice has been served?

Mr. Thompson, justice will be served when that prick goes to prison to finish his sentence just like anybody else would.

Illinois's last "real Republican" was the Honorable US Senator Peter Fitzgerald who was run out of town, but not before leaving a gift,
USA Patrick Fitzgerald.

Hopefully Bush won't be THAT STUPID to pardon that corrupt criminal Ryan. Big Bill Thompson, should just put his tail between his legs and accept the fact that he lost. Oh yea, and the last hurrah is that Thompson and Webb did all of this pro-bono. Any joe schmoe would have had to mortgage his house, wife and kids to get all that "free" legal action. Enough is enough. The citizens of Illinois are tired of the Ryans, Daleys, Blagos, Madigans, Strogers, Obamas, Durbins, etc., etc.
