Gee, Corruption?
Crook county? Former Ald. Dick Simpson did some shocking arithmetic recently:
• • The shocker: Since 1971, a total of 27 Chicago aldermen have been convicted in federal court for corruption!
• • Quoth Simpson: "[In addition to the 27] One died before he could be convicted, and two are currently under indictment and awaiting trial [Ed Vrdolyak and Arenda Troutman]," said Simpson, who now heads up the University of Illinois at Chicago's political science department.
And this is shocking to whom? Royko covered this for years. The rate of aldermanic conviction has always been an amazing stat to outsiders, federal task forces especially. And last week only scraped the surface:
- A mole wore a wire for a year while acting as a bagman carrying bribes from developers and contractors to Chicago building inspectors, exposing systemic corruption in the Zoning and Buildings Departments, authorities said Thursday.
Even for a town that has turned payoffs into an art form, the operative uncovered brazen misconduct, investigators alleged.
Until they cut off the head, expect the games to continue.

Brazen? You really have to be kidding. The elite status people of power have always thought they are untouchable and act as they are.

Ask Ernie Brown, How much property have you been buying in Costa Rico? Ask him, how many properties did he invest in, right in the district he was Commander in, through a B.S. layer of an investment corporation. And then use his muscle as a D.C. and utilized the tactical teams to clean up these blocks the properties were on so they can quickly turn around and sell the properties making $100,000.00's of dollars. Oh, one of his investment partners? Ask him about Dorothy Tillman and see if he ever bought property with her under this investment firm?
Under Phil Cline, many of his friends along with Cline purchased west side properties for a few hundred dollars a property lot. And did you ever wonder why there was such a strong and noticeable police presence on the west side when Cline took office? And the reason why the usually loud mouth west side preachers didn't say a word about the strong arm tactics of this army of cops? Yep, they were cut into the million dollar pie!
Now I challenge any cop to go to an Aldermen's office, you can even wear your uniform and ask for a zoning change on a piece of property you own. I did. The Aldermen was fully aware that I was a Chicago cop. Guess what? The zoning change wasn't free. It would of been cheaper not to put the addition on my house.
Now watch any FBI surveillance video of any elected person or one of his bag man taking the cash. I know with your law enforcement background, you will be able to easily observe that it is business as usual. No nervousness, no shaking and no sweating. They usually count the money right in front of the person paying.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg. From City contracts to cost over runs in the millions, sometimes HUNDRED of MILLIONS of dollars. Kick backs, graft, bribes, secret deals about inside information about areas that will be cleaned up by the city.... so investors can make millions... Its the City Way. More hands are greased in this City than cars get lube jobs at the Jiffy Lubes.
In the end, we pay for it. Gas taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, city stickers, less money for our contractual raises, all go for this bullshit.
When a copper use to get a few bucks for taking a stinky rotten body to a local funeral home, the Feds with after them like angry wolves. The big shots steal hundred of millions of dollars and nothing is done. Look at all the people so far convicted in all the city corruption scandals. Millions were lost. What did most of them get? 10 to 18 months in Club Fed. None were barred from doing business again with the City, none were barred from being re-employed with the City.
I can see some guy from ButtFart, Iowa saying it is so brazen but ANYBODY who has done business in this City or ANYBODY who has worked for this City knows better. It is only being called BRAZEN to lessen the impact of such open business as usual.
Daley moved from his longtime mobbed up Bridgeport neighborhood to make it appear as he is just a "regular guy". But Daley never cut his mob ties nor his Bridgeport ties. The mob runs this town now more than it did during the Al Capone days. The mob makes more money off one deal with the city than Alphonso Capone made in his whole life in this city.
Daley is as dirty as dog shit and for reasons unknown to me, the FBI or Federal Government will never go after him personally. It is my belief that most if not all of the people taken down by the FBI in city corruption charges were because Daley wanted them out of the picture. Get rid of them and replace them with people you want and not people that you were told you have to have.

I went to my Alderwoman to see if my son could maybe get a city job. I think I would of saved more money by sending him to an University for 4 years than buying him this job.

Funny that you say that. I know a person having work done by a well known company. The company went to get the permit to do the job. The city told the company that they could not use the electrician that this company had contracted with to do all their jobs. The city told the company that they could ONLY use XYZ minority company to do the electrical work. The company could not choose who would be their subcontractor!
Imagine = the city wants minority companies to get work. They then tell private companies who they can hire to subcontract on a private jobs for a private citizens!

A Building permit for a garage including demolition, new contruction and electrical can be obtained at most city offices for less then $400.00. and you dont have to even get the Aldermans office involved.

We once had an honest Alderman, who got jobs for any kid that needed one. He took a genuine interest in the community and was always kind and helpful to all. He took no money. Guess what? He's history! Daley made sure to get rid of him quick!

Officers we need you to run for alderman, mayor and governor. No more private meetings and deal making with citizens, business people and religious revilers. Everything public and transparent. First thing is term limits. No one should be a career politician and maintain power in the same spot. If you need a career then. Two terms and move on to another position at a different government level, local, county, state or federal maybe. No more lobbyist No more political action monies. Corporations are forbidden from making any contributions for any political purpose. No more corporate jobs for politicians. All politicians must be self-employed and no corporate jobs for immediate family members. If you want to serve a public life then make the rules work for Americans. Not Corporate America!

Perhaps he should do some math and show the overall percentages of indicted aldermen in contrast to the police who are indicted.
For example, if 1 of 10000 officers is indicted then we have .010 % of "dirty" cops (that's one tenth of one percent). If 1 of 50 aldermen is indicted then we have a whopping 2% (two whole percent versus one tenth of one percent) of "dirty" aldermen!!!

I feel obligated to at least offer an opposing view about one of the post. A poster said they paid the 19th ward alderwoman for a job for his kid. Well, six years ago my son graduated St Rita and was leaving state to attend school in the fall. He wanted a city job but those programs are for public school kids. So instead her office told my son to submit a resume` for internship to the alderman. Now I was new to Mount Greenwood and hadn't even voted from here yet. I'm not shy about my Republican leaning views and neither is my son. I thought for sure his submitting a resume` was an act in futility because I thought for sure some Judge's from Beverly relative would get the position. To my surprise Alderman Rugai hired my son. He was Valedictorian at St Rita, an Eagle Scout, a State and National Scholar, a volunteer at Muscular Dystrophy summer camp and St Christina. She NEVER ONCE asked for money nor anything. She then helped him get another job when he came home for the summer the next year and again never asked for a thing. I know my story is different from the other but this is my personal experience with her and my story is definitely true and I'm sure a matter of public record. Oh, for all the na-sayers, because my seniority I can work whatever district I want, on what ever watch I want. I chose to stay in the Murder capital district of the city and have no desire to get promoted. I just feel it's the right thing to do, to share this opposing view. I for one was impressed...I purposely leave my name off this time to quell and conspiracy thinkers thoughts...
