Ethics Tests Not Working
We distinctly remember a number of these exact situations coming up on the on line Ethics Test:
- Even for a town that has turned payoffs into an art form, the operative uncovered brazen misconduct, investigators alleged.
City inspectors ignored problems, fabricated reports and sped up paperwork in exchange for envelopes of cash, work on their homes and tickets to skyboxes for Bulls games, the federal charges alleged. One inspector took $10,000 to approve two illegal basement units in a building, while another allegedly took $7,000 to "inspect" plumbing that was already covered by concrete, investigators said.
Local and federal authorities said the charges marked a new phase in an investigation dubbed Operation Crooked Code.
We thought that the Ethics Test was supposed to prevent this behavior. We didn't realize it was a "Bribes for Dummies" instruction manual. Someone needs to do a better job explaining all this stuff to us.

NEWTON COUNTY, Mo. -- A Missouri woman captured video of a black panther attacking her house moments before a deputy shot and killed the animal.
Vicki Sanders, of rural Newton County, said she's lived for years around wild animals like deer. But until Monday, she'd never seen anything like a black panther come near her home.
Sanders said she was outside her home at about 6 a.m. when she spotted the panther running toward her. She took off for her house and made it back safely thanks to her dogs, which slowed down the cat.
Sanders then got out a camera and got video of the panther trying to get through the door.
"We called 911 and I told one dispatcher that there was a black panther in my back yard. And she said, 'A black panther?' -- like she didn't believe me. And I said, 'Yes, madam,' and I described where I was at. And when the police officer got here, he had the pleasure of watching the cat trying to get into my son's window in his bedroom," Sanders said.
A sheriff's deputy showed up and brought the cat down with shotgun blasts and handgun fire.
Officials said the panther weighed 60 pounds and measured 3 feet. They also said it was declawed, which indicates that someone owned it as a pet.
No one in the area has reported it missing, but animal control officials said it could have roamed as much as 100 miles from its home.

desensitized public. Why can’t we give a fellow officer or a citizen a break?
We all have given a citizen a break, why not an officer? The ethical situation is
I never took money or promises from any of them to show someone mercy. We as a
society cannot show mercy? Is that what we really want?
I don’t agree with every stupid law that our corrupt politicians pass. Did it
ever occur to you that not every law is just. The Nazi passed laws, were they
just? There are God’s laws and there are man’s laws. An ordinance against Foie Gras is a perfect example of stupidity beyond belief. Who are these alderman men and women to pass
judgement on food? Is it not cruel to butcher a cow, steer or chicken too?
Cell phones? Police officers are exempted from this ordinance. Our Alderman , State and
Federal representatives and senators oftentimes exempt themselves from the laws
they expected us citizens to follow. Alderman Mell fucked up and forgot to register his gun, so change the ordinance to accommodate one person? Da Mayor supports one man’s forgetfulness and comprises everything he been saying for years to the community about gun control. Mayor Daley what do you really believe about guns and public violence? What message are you given to all of us? Do you oppose the Inspector General’s efforts to root out corruption taking place under your feet at City Hall?

I have a response to one posters OT. I work a sidejob at Navy Pier. There is no way a Casino is coming to NP any time soon without major renovations and new construction.
NP doesn't have close to enough parking to hold a Casino. On any weekend from May thru Sept the parking garage is full. There isn't shit to do now at NP and the Garage is full. U put in a Casino and you will have to triple the parking spaces.
I have heard the City wants to make changes to the Pier and add a Hotel. That will take major construction and take years. The mayor won't add a Casino to the biggest tourist destination in the City. I would suspect after tha mayor gets what he wants with the Childrens museom, he will put a Casion somewhere in Grant Park or in the South Loop.

We are surrounded by great examples of ethics. Just look at how we pay the highest gasoline prices, the highest electric rates, the highest sales taxes and look at the jump in our water/sewer bills this past year.
Just today I opened my Peoples Gas Bill and it jumped from $132 to $173 a month! And our property taxes!?!
Our medical care continues to become worthless and our retiree medical will disappear in 2013 in time to finance the hired trucks to build Daley's Olympics. Yet, the politicians have the platinum, pay-for-everything-no-questions-asked plans that cover them and their families into retirement.

Screw the Union Member
Screw the Taxpayer

Wow! Great use of a historical name in your post in an attempt to lend credence to your limited intellect. But pray tell me, how would go about establishing the foundation for your proposed skyscraper on the pier? Considering that nearly all buildings need a minimum depth of 25 meters up to 60 meters for a foundation, how are you building this Lego (err, probably Duplo in your case) tower of yours? I realize now that you were the kid in pre-school who kept stacking the same Duplo 2x4 block on top of one another only to cry and snot yourself every time your tower kept leaning over and falling time after time? Leave the complex engineering of skyscrapers to the experts, your Duplo experience is not needed! In essenCe, your plan is not feasible on the pier and off the pier, the cost would be prohibitive even for Clan Daley.

No need to waste one's time in , at this point in time, futile protest march; just keep not doing what pulls in revenue for the city, keep not doing what you can get jammed for, keep not doing what the 'people' have shown they do not want done, keep not doing what the midget wants you to do, that's all that's needed for now.
Nature will take it's course, the storm will come, weather it, with the confidence that the more you do not do, the closer the buck gets to where it belongs, right up the mayor's ass.

I neither propose it or want it; but since you asked, just a thought off the top of my head, something like the Golden Gate Bridge used, caissons. Did you expect to see the architectural renderings here? This is a blog for coppers, not the city contract bidding site.

Daley can't even get the Children's Museum in Grant Park and you credit him with being able to build a 50+ high story casino/hotel on Navy Pier? The man is a rotten and corrupt man, but he is not capable of anything he desires. King Daley has his limits.
