...Los Angeles steps up to the plate and one-ups Chicago:
The Los Angeles City Council has approved a one-year moratorium on new fast-food restaurants in a low-income area of the city.
The moratorium unanimously approved Tuesday is a bid to attract restaurants that offer healthier food choices to residents in a 32-square-mile area of South Los Angeles.
Councilwoman Jan Perry says residents at five public meetings expressed concern with the proliferation of fast-food outlets in the community plagued by above-average rates of obesity.
No fast food restaurants in minority areas because minorities are too fat and also, since they can't make proper lifestyle choices, Los Angeles will just remove the temptation from them. How typically liberal - we will make the choices for you. Nanny state-ism at its finest.

I just read the article on msn.com. And I thought that our council had all the morons and fucktards!
How about holding so-called "poor people" responsible for their own actions? How do these "poor" afford to pay for fast food? That's right...with our tax dollars.
Here's an idea: Offer government sponsored sterilizations for the so-called "poor" so that they won't be able to bring children into the world that they cannot afford to support.
I'm tired of this nanny state bullshit! It's also unconstitutional in that it violates the commerce clause. Have fun wasting your constituents' tax dollars fighting for your retarded law L.A. council folks!

The nanny state politicians should just admit that they want us living like they do in China. Under a communist system where the government controls everything. Does Chicago really need 50 Aldermen? Check out the number of officials other major cities have, its nowhere near this many. Also with such a large government body, why does the county need a large one too? To save mega-tax dollars how about a complete over-haul of both government units? How many of these services offered are done by both groups? Both have water depts.? The county's police force is the third largest in the state, why? Sounds like lots of political hackery to me.....

this may be off the topic, but for the 1st time in many years i've never been completly embarresed to be a chicago police officer. i came into the 015th dist and saw that our parking lot was taken over not by caps personal not by the Austin citizens but by thug gang bangers. for a basketball tour. I have no problem with that. however to go and finish up a arrest into where i work (as it was hot enough already) and see all of these thugs with their hats tilted to the right and left and yelling neg things about the police is absolutly a disgrace. i will never do anything pro active for this department ever again. this is what you get That is what caps has done.
They'll go out of business anyway. Imagine a salad creation restaurant on madison and pulaski.... people would go crazy and crime would increase. The west side will be gone after the OBAMA 08 Riots.
The kind of restaurants that serve healthier food don't like to serve it through bullet-proof plexiglass. You may get more take-out rib joints opening if competition from Mickey D's is stifled, but I doubt Wolfgang is going to open a place there any time soon.

How about this. In addition to drug testing for link card recipients, how about making the link cards acceptable only in specific grocery stores and only on nutritional foods. That would cut back on them being used to by cheetos and grape soda as well as the scams that the ghetto convenience stores run. The purpose for the link card is to buy food for the family not junk food or to sell for .25 on the dollar.

I think the CM people need to be dealt with a lot harsher than they are, but the correct way is to start ticketing them. They routinely violate all kinds of traffic laws.

The city is in debt up to its eyeballs, the police STILL don't have a contract, we have the highest sales tax in the effing country, and this jagoff has enough time to worry about people talking & texting while walking.

New York is not Chicago. Unlike Chicago, the working New York citizen has no love of criminals and troublemakers.
The criminal thug spokesman Sharpton makes a lot of noise in New York, but doesn't get paid like the true big-time thug supporters in Chicago (Lovey and Lovey, Clifford, etc...)
