Bad enough I haven't seen my beat car ( or a tact car except for the coppers from other Districts coming home during their tour ) drive down my street in over 13 years, but now we have the lowest of the low, incompetence personified as sergeants! Is the next ax to fall is our pension? The city wants to get away from Defined Benefit plans (a pension) to a Defined Contribution plan (a 401K). I have two years on the job and I hope that I will be grandfathered in with a pension.

This is a bad deal for the futurs police but the people on the job shouldbe fine. The city is trying to go to 401(k) plans for future police.The FOP better negotiate a pension bump or steep pay increase to give this up. 401(k)'s are not bad if you contribute as much as you can and manage it properly, but they still arent as good as a definened pension. I dont think the FLOP is going to be able to keep the city from going to a 410k plan but for god's sake get us 80% or a big raise. Maybe a buyout for some of the older officers

What you guys call an ambulance, we simply call a "bus" in radio transmissions. ("Central, give us a bus for a man shot at...")
Unlike the CPD and LAPD, we don't have SWAT. Our guys are assigned to Emergency Service Unit (ESU) trucks throughout all boroughs.

I know, I'm a company suck-hole or whatever. I've seen coppers out there with stars and bars on their sleeves doing shit that a 2 month PPO would'nt do. For about the past 7-8 years, I've been hitting as many of the suburban summer fests as I can. Rarely a problem. Good musical entertainment. And a near 0 shitheads. Even in Homewood. Why? Mainly because 1) They charge admission either at the entrance which is fenced off or by charging $5 for a wrist band to purchase liquor; 2) The musical lineups don't include rap, hipity-hop, etc.; and 3) The police at these suburban fests don't take shit from any asshole no matter what race. These villages, apparently, want people to enjoy themselves without disturbances. They allow their officers to have free rein in keeping the undesireables out. The best was at Homewood Days. Heartsfield, a country rock band was playing and the M/1 and F/1 youts were walking through the crowd and the looks on their faces waspriceless. "What are those strange things that are hanging from the band members shoulders? What is that guy hitting with those sticks?" They're called musical instruments. Sorry. No one scratching a turntable at this show dude.

How about this as a bonus for joining swat you can work 2 days off per week at the airports for time and 1/2! You walk around with all your heavy weapons in the car, while your on the secure side great thinking! How about putting swat guys in the projects where they could be used? A union guy from the fire department told me that there is a referendum on the ballot this year for a Illinois constitutional convention. Its on the ballot every 20 years. In '88 it was voted down.In '68 it was approved and the constitution was rewritten.
What this means is, if the people vote for the constitutional convention, the Illinois state constitution gets rewritten. Our pensions are protected by the State constitution, they could then be in jeopardy.
3 more homicides in july and we hit 60. when is the last time we had 60 in 1 month? 2001?

REGARDING ONE DAY A MONTH AT CHA SPECIAL...
Spoke to DiMaria at 1030 am today. He told me that I was the first person to inquire about it, and that "he'd look into it". He was suspicious when he was made aware that the 018th District will now be responsible for the CHA special scheduling. Can you smell a rat??? I can. More older guys who are gonna get hit in the pocket book better start calling FLOP and demanding some kind of answers. I will call back on a daily basis until I hear something of substance for an answer. And I will be the first to file a grievance should it be discovered that there are shenanigans of any kind involved with the assignment of days. Make the call, guys. Let's hear what kind of bullshit they're (FLOP) gonna try and feed us on this one.

I hope to GOD when I have 25-30 years on the job, I don't have to work (or should I say NEED to work) OT or side jobs. Maybe you should have planned better or kept your dick in you pants and not have a child when you were 50. I mean come on 2 days between CHA or Ohare/Midway should be enough for everybody. Spread the wealth.
Before you say anything about seniority..... These OT opportunities haven't been around for long. So don't tell me you had to deal with it when you were younger on the job.
