We're short people, right? We have beat cars operating 99 on midnights and afternoons, right? We're downing primary beat cars more often than is safe, right?
Then why is it with this "Back to the Street" program, Officers are NOT to be assigned radio calls? We mean, isn't this the most obvious sign that we're short handed - the number of backlogs that occur almost daily? Wouldn't another car answering calls make somewhat of a difference, even if it's just punching out a few reports? Hell, a dedicated paper car might be the actual way to go.

- More scams in patrol. Good thing some idiot came up with back to the streets for the inside people because that really helped in 010 on 3rd watch. 1 Sgt and 2 PO's are now being detailed off the watch to headquarters so they can go work back to the street and come in with some sort of numbers while the back to the street police go out as some call number that is not part of the watch and doesn't have to respond to radio calls. Who knows how many other districts had to detail working PO's to back to the streets from their watch also to pad numbers?

The two officers were detailed there to bring numbers up and make the program a success. The rest of the people on the back to the streets program are desk people who they know will bring in nothing.
Our manpower is sick on our watch. I have to say they are very good with giving time off, but boy will we pay the price some day. The day that something even sizable breaks out, there's no way in hell our little skeleton crew will be able to squash it. How can a whole starting time (4 o'clock) only have 7 people in the roll call, and on a frequent basis. This is just dangerous.
If the city is really concerned about us and our well being then they would hire more recruits and on a basis that would at the very least cover the retirees.
But they don't, so why in the world should we put our neck out for them (the city).
More bull shit... More crime... Who has a clue?
Let us not forget the 80 or so detectives detailed to the clout unit, unit 606, Cold squad fugitive appren., etc.

It is a con job done by the higher ups... Just as in the office, they sit on their assess and do nothing, or as little of nothing they can. They are a visual for the neighborhoods, so they think the pooo-lices are looking out for their welfare.
The "gang bangers" know they are for show only. They can't make arrests or write tickets that would take them to court, cause then they would have to take time from their do-nothing, I know somebody office jobs.
If they are on the street with the rest of the regular patrol people, they should be required to do as the regular I don't know somebody police officer. What good are they, just as useless as CAPS.

I agree, they should split up TRU one half will go into 007 and 008 answer calls and back up people, the other half will go into 004 and 006. They can still come from 39th st if they want. just let dispatch know they have 30 extra cars to play with.

Office people througout the city are required this summer to work 1 week on the street being detailed to whereever they need. DOC comes to mind. Its silly, its ridiculous etc etc. Yup no radio calls but they are supposed to back up the district call. Can you imagine some house mouse that lives in 016 detailed to HQ then has to answer a call in 004 regarding a domestic or sales call. I wouldn't know where I was either in 004. That would be putting them in dangerous situations since they don't know the area where they are. The correct answer would be to dump them back to the districts where they came from and out of HQ permanently. So much wasted space there.

Hate to say it, but back in the day the only sergeants who did that were the sergeants WHO PROVED THEIR WORTH AS SERGEANTS.
Sergeants are there to make decisions, including things relating to manpower allocations and availability, and use of resources. What you describe is a judgement call. Like all judgement calls, it could backfire sometime. It could also ensure that officers reach more life-threatening incidents in quicker time too. The odds are strongly in favor of it being helpful in the vast majority of times.
Seriously, its the sergeants who refuse to make decisions, whether right now, last year or last decade, who should have been entirely disqualified from any consideration for promotions.
Unfortunately, with very few exceptions, the sergeants who are willing to make decisions (i.e. do their job) are the ones promoted to lieutenant far too often.
What you describe is but one example of things supervisors should be doing. Don't let the vast lack of leadership in the department fool you into believing that a supervisor making decisions is part of the problem. Its part of the solution.

It's not only that the commander of 010 is asking for aggressive policing, he's out there commanding the troops. For better or for worse! I think it's good, he's a great boss but the "community" and the Department (at least up to recently) have spoken and they don't want any sort of policing.

If those police in HQ and inside have such meaningfull jobs how come they are all able to be taken away for a week and no one misses them? I didn't see the department crawling to a halt yet.

NOT true,the department is supposed to purge these contact cards but it does not. I have seen gang cards,contact cards,etcetra that go back to the early 1980's on file. This is another huge Federal Civil Rights Violation lawsuit waiting in the wings.

To the person beefing about the unit that sat behind but didn't get out to help. How long have you been on? Everything under control and you pull up I would prefer you just sat back in case there was a problem. Most coppers don't want or need a bunch of guys they don't know pulling up and inserting themselves into a stop that is under control. If you needed their assistance a simple " hey guys could you watch them while we go through the car" or something similar would have been appropriate.

The reason people complain about him is that he doesn't take shit from ppo's who want to complain about working with certain people, or who can't work a late car, or who can't blah blah blah. For the record, T.F. in 010 is a really nice guy who's goes out of his way for you.
And yes, there are ALOT of demanding/complaining PPO's in 010 who won't do this and won't work that.
But it's a good district overall!

You guys make me sick. You all bitch and moan about no manpower, no contract, no union, bad bosses, but will go out there today and generate revenue for this dept. and city by hammering working folks with tickets. Stick together, answer calls and DO NOT generate any kind of revenue. If you do, you deserve the shit you get and you can all go fuck yourselves.
Our contract will not allow for the officers working their five days of "Back To The Streets" to answer jobs. So, that is why. The contract protects us from 35th Street. This is a management and labor affairs issue/FOP Contract issue.
