Daley Idiocy

  • Chicago is fighting tooth and nail to keep its 1982 handgun freeze, in part to protect first-responders, even as suburbs such as Wilmette and Morton Grove are throwing in the towel, Mayor Daley said today.
Because that handgun freeze has worked so very well in protecting everyone so far. "Won't someone think of the first responders?" Ok Helen Lovejoy - thanks.
  • If the nation’s highest court says it’s OK to keep guns in your home for self-defense, what’s to prevent those guns from being used against police officers and firefighters who respond to a domestic quarrel or other emergency, the mayor said.
Nothing at all. Just like nothing at all is keeping all those "ILLEGAL GUNS" already in the hands of the citizenry from being turned on anyone. The criminals never obeyed the law in the first place, so how is a ban going to protect anyone in any case?
  • “What does a policeman do when there’s a domestic battery [call] and they’re both armed? Do they enter the home or apartment or do they wait outside?
They do their job. We'll bet we've been to hundreds, if not thousands of domestics where there were guns other than the ones we and out partners brought along in that very house. But we acted professionally, kept people where we could see them, didn't let them move from room to room until we were sure the situation was under control.
  • How ‘bout the neighbors? How ‘bout the postman — all the other issues that go with people coming into your home or close to your home?
You encourage responsible gun ownership...you know, like they do in 48 other states where people are allowed to own handguns. We don't see those areas suffering anything near the Chicago homicide rate. We wonder why that is?
  • Whose responsibility is it when your son takes the gun outside and police come by?” Daley told reporters at a senior citizen development in Roseland.
Um, that'd be (A) the responsibility of the gun owner to keep the gun safe, secured and locked up from someone who shouldn't have it and (B) the asshole who took the gun outside. And if they point it at police, they should be killed out of hand.
  • The mayor’s laundry list of questions does not stop at the safety of first-responders. He wants to know just how far the Supreme Court is prepared to go to protect the 2nd Amendment.

“It’s just not allowing people to arm themselves. How many guns do you have — 50, 60? Can they have a .357 Magnum? Can they have ammunition that will go through a wall? What is the liability of the owners? … Do you have to have insurance if you have a gun? How much ammunition can you have if there’s a fire? If a fireman is going to your home and you have 40 weapons and 1,000 rounds, do we have a responsibility to notify all the neighbors?” Daley said.

Only a thousand rounds? Geez, why so few? Just more intrusive BS from the Chicago Machine. Hey Daley? Μολὼν λαβέ

UPDATE: We're almost too embarrassed to admit this, but we confused Maude Flanders with Helen Lovejoy. Post corrected.

The Ghetto Lottery Continues:

LOGAN SQUARE:
Dog killed, officer sued
A Northwest Side woman filed a battery suit against a Chicago Police officer and the City of Chicago after the officer allegedly busted into her Logan Square home with a gun drawn and fatally shot the family dog in front of her daughter. Fabiola Robles filed the suit Friday in Cook County Circuit Court. The suit claims that on Dec. 12, 2007, the officer forcefully entered a closed door at Fabiola Robles' home with his weapon drawn and discharged his gun inside a darkened stairway, fatally striking the family's pet boxer, Rocky, twice in the neck, the suit said. The five-count suit seeks more than $50,000 in damages.

for those of you that don't speak/ read Greek....
Μολὼν λαβέ literally translates to "come and get it"
was reportedly the defiant response of King Leonidas I of Sparta to Xerxes I of Persia at the onset of the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC). Xerxes, whose forces vastly outnumbered the Spartans and their allies, offered to spare the lives of Leonidas and his few thousand warriors if they would only surrender and lay down their weapons.

Instead, the Spartans held Thermopylae for three days and, although they were ultimately annihilated, they inflicted serious damage upon the Persian army, and most importantly delayed its progress to Athens, providing sufficient time for the city's evacuation to Salamis Island. Though a clear defeat, Thermopylae served as a moral victory and inspired the troops at the Battle of Salamis and the Battle of Plataea, where the non-medizing Greeks won their freedom and arguably saved the Western World.

Aside from being irrational, Daley's hubris knows no bounds. I believe that his onset of dementia occurred several years ago and has become progressively worse. Sound minds cannot reason with him.

At a waste of millions of taxpayer dollars, he has ordered his law department (the office of the Corporation Counsel) to appeal D.C. v. Heller in search of frivolous grounds to overturn the Law if the Land. He will drain public coffers until the Supreme Court denies certiorari. After all, in his arrogance, this stubborn, sanctimonious prick actually believes it's either his way or the highway, the Supremes notwithstanding.

Should Obama win in November, God forbid, and a vacancy occurs in the Supreme Court, Daley believes he can reverse the 5-4 decision of the nation's highest court.

Then, using the last refuge of scoundrels, he attempts to speak for first responders--just another variation of his "It's all for the children" bullshit.

Obviously, arming defenseless, qualified, sane, decent, law-abiding citizens would win in a landslide vote among street-wise police officers.

Justifiable homicides of home-invading savages would provide a superb deterrent to violent crime against innocent citizens by gangbanging strangers.

Then this stubborn megalomaniac should look at his "sanctuary city" stupidity in light of the illegal immigrant ex-con who slaughtered three members of the Bologna family in the "road rage" incident in the Excelsior District of San Francisco.

If any city, county and state cries out for political reforms to include term limits and a voter recall referendum mechanism, it's Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

The Chicago-based Democratic Machine is a totalitarian regime led by Emperor Daley.

Just playing devil's advocate here, so:

"Because that handgun freeze has worked so very well in protecting everyone so far. "Won't someone think of the first responders?" Ok Maude Flanders - thanks."

I can't see how Daley makes money off of not allowing people to have handguns in their homes, or how it benefits his friends to not let people have handguns in their homes, so maybe the exuse offered shows some mild consideration for the police, why bash that?

"what’s to prevent those guns from being used against police officers and firefighters who respond to a domestic quarrel or other emergency, the mayor said.

Nothing at all. Just like nothing at all is keeping all those "ILLEGAL GUNS" already in the hands of the citizenry from being turned on anyone."

While the SCC response is valid, as I interpret it to mean that the criminal assholes already have guns, it is a fact that if allowed, there would be more guns in the city and as a result there would be a higher degree of likelyhood that we as police would be responding to calls where there is an increased chance of a handgun being in the home. I, for one, would rather have LESS chances of there being a handgun in the home of pissed off individuals that I have to respond to. It's great when people are happy, but when they fuck up enough to make someone call the police, I don't expect cool heads to prevail and keep some "nice" guy from making a stupid decision.

"How ‘bout the neighbors? How ‘bout the postman — all the other issues that go with people coming into your home or close to your home?

You encourage responsible gun ownership...you know, like they do in 48 other states where people are allowed to own handguns."

You can't enforce "encouragement". There is no reprocussion from not following "encouragement" as there is with a violation of the law.

"Whose responsibility is it when your son takes the gun outside and police come by?” Daley told reporters at a senior citizen development in Roseland.

Um, that'd be (A) the responsibility of the gun owner to keep the gun safe, secured and locked up from someone who shouldn't have it and (B) the asshole who took the gun outside. And if they point it at police, they should be killed out of hand."

Sounds great, but again, SCC is preaching from the gun safety pulpit of the NRA to a population of citizens in CHICAGO. With that statement, you credit each and every one of those citizens with being a responsible adult who will faithfully secure and protect their weapons. If they for some reason are not, oh well someone gets killed. That's the punishment they get for not securing their weapons. And you believe that's a just and humane solution rather than enact a law to hopes to prevent that law abiding citizen's child or neighbor from having to be killed? C'mon.

It's great SCC takes a side. But for a moment attempt to view the before, middle and ending of the entire scenario from a neutral point of view as a human being who was designed to have some measure of compassion for the human race.

The NRA offers this: Let people have guns, less crime will occur. Teach people to be responsible gun owners and you'll have no ancillary problems from people having guns. Period.

Daley alleges this: DON'T let any more people have guns in this city than those that can't be controlled, and we don't have to pay to teach people who may or may not listen. DON'T allow normally decent intelligent folk to have handguns in hopes of preventing a situation where his police department gets to kill someone under cover of law. DON'T allow more citizens to have guns, thereby increasing any chances of a bad situation occurring when first responders arrive which could possibly hurt them. and DON'T allow more citizens to have guns in this city due to the fact that it will at various points in our future cost the taxpayers MORE money in lawsuits being filed against the department, frivolous or not, stemming from more guns being allowed inside people's homes regardless of whether the city can blame it on the supreme court.

In the end, Daley isn't making cash, gaining MORE political favor or enriching his friends from banning handguns in the city. So basically, the NRA can only use the last excuse of "he just wants to controll this shit" because they have no other rational excuse to use. They completely disregard any points he spews to the media about trying to protect anyone or prevent a single needless death or accident due to more guns being in the city. And at the same time, the NRA attempts to make the populous believe that everyone can be trained and trusted to control their guns and all will be fine, if not, kill them and the law covers you.

Who do you think has an agenda of money and power with the issue, the NRA who lobbies congress for power, which turns into money back towards them for their support, or Daley who doesn't need a dime to tell the media he doesn't want to repeal the ordinance? And before anyone makes the case that he's just trying to enrich his lawyer friends by fighting a long case, think for a second who it is that's making those laywer friends rich, Daley or the NRA who files the suits against him, thereby causing the money to flow into his friends hands?

I'm not a cop but I do enjoy reading your perspective on this city. Initially, I was disappointed and scared about the Supreme Court's decision. But now after my neighborhood has had not one but TWO shoot-outs on residential streets in the middle of the afternoon, I think that the gun ban does more to make people like me feel safe rather than really doing anything. I mean, exactly where did these thugs get their guns if there was a gun ban? Yep. The same way criminals have always gotten guns.

Railing against the judgment and doing these gun turn-ins gives Daley good PR but doesn't really solve anything. I need a mayor who is really interested in protecting me from the bad element. That means considering a lot of viewpoints and new approaches. That being said it is scarying me that most of the new ideas are "robocop" visions. I suppose there are lots of reasons why a human police force would be faulty and much of it leads straight to corruption that was started in his circles. This city has some big problems but it was created by people and will have to be solved by people.

-------------------------------

I agree. Although I know many head-on-straight members I have ZERO use for the paranoid kneee-jerk assclowns that have hijacked much of the national stuff.

A free, responsible population having access to self protection is of itself reasonable and obviously constitutionally sound.

NO, I do not agree with some of the gun guys who feel packing a rod anywhere and everywhere is the solution in and of itself. YES, there can be responsible requirements like training and requirements to secure the weapon.

Will the street scum get access to weapons by talking them from homes? Occasionally. But the same is true about knives, baseball bats and rat poison.

And I also can do this math: gun + point at police = shot/dead pointer

People know that, so Daley's sudden concern for first responders is just political posturing. Or: the postman comes to your door so, since you now legally have a weapon you shoot him? Yikes. I'm tired of getting bills in the mail, but that's over reacting a bit.

Therefore, as bad as they think things can get for the police due to gun laws do not apply. Things are bad now and will get better with: 1)30 more cops per district
2)Contract that keeps up with inflation.
3)Top off 25 years at 80%.
4)less liability for doing there job correctly!

Nice reply. Basically you prove my point, since it seems your about to have a stroke because someone doesn't agree with you. That, in and of itself, could be considered some form of mental instability itself. Get that checked out if you ever expect to enjoy old age, unless you intend to die in the middle of a rant at your monitor all alone. You're exactly the kind of guy I want to have guns in his home when he gets into a fight with his neighbor after a few beers. Then I get the pleasure of having to deal with you. Like we all need the added stress of "will I get shot approaching the house by a drunken gun fanatic who no one wants to listen to".

And also, maybe get a higher education as it shows you've had little exposure to higher learning and conceptual thinking that comes with the third and fourth year of college and beyond.

You prove you have no ability to reason objectively, but rather whine from your own soapbox with the same "fuck you if you can't handle guns, pussy!" attitude.

I've been on the job for 14 years dipshit, and I'm guessing I'm also older than you, which means I've had more time on this planet to observe people and how they function. Any evidence you could possibly offer that having the ability to retain a handgun ONLY IN YOUR OWN HOME AND NOT ABOUT YOUR PERSON reduces crime likely has a study source of either the NRA itself of some institution funded indirectly by the NRA. No one does anything for free.

Get this stat from ICLEAR if you can, EXACTLY how many agg batts & homicides with a firearm occurred INSIDE the victim's home for the last year. That is the ONLY figure that could legally decline as a result of Chicagoans being allowed to keep a handgun IN THEIR HOMES ONLY.

Now from that stat, if you were able to obtain it, try and post an INTELLIGENT guess as to how many of that extremely small number could have changed if the homeowner had the legal right to keep a handgun INSIDE THE HOME only.

And for some reason, all you gun freaks love to just blow past the fact that you CAN have licensed shotguns and rifles inside the home any time you want.

What - shotgun not good enough to kill an asshole who's already broken into your home, or will you use the weak argument that a shotgun isn't as easy to get hold of quickly or wield as is a handgun?

Either way, none of you have any ground to stand on that can't be "shot" to shit with the current gun laws in Chicago or with the real statistics that have any relavance whatsoever in connection with the right to keep a handgun IN YOUR HOME ONLY by an individual who was legally allowed to obtain it.

And the reason for the caps should be obvious, never will a single civilian be granted the right to carry or conceal a handgun about their person on the streets of Chicago, which is where 99.9% of all your violence occurs.

You lose from any standpoint you take, and standing on "it's my right" as extrapolated from ancient laws ain't strong enough to a lite breeze.

And one more thing I haven't seen addressed, supposing Joe Blow has no convictions and is a fine upstanding citizen of the City and gets a handgun, registers it in Chicago and keeps it in his house. What if Joe Blow has a son named Pookie the shithead living with him that has an outstanding warrant for Agg Batt, or has 2 dope convictions against him. I guess Pookie now has the right to use that handgun too. Pookie the shitter has the right to use a handgun, or any gun for that matter, that he otherwise would never EVER legally be allowed to handle due to his history, just because someone who lives in the house doesn't have a record and can actually buy a gun.

Ever met a nice guy on a domestic who had a son or daughter that was a shithead? Hmmm? Give that guy a handgun and anyone in the house gets access to it whether they're a criminal or not.

There ain't a scenario that exists where it's unreasonable to state that more bad could come from it then good.

1) Disarm the public and create a generation of helpless lambs (like you) who look to government to "protect" them.

forgot to address this one directly.

That's part of what you pay taxes for. And if you in fact are even the police, you owe your job to that fact.

Using your blanket analagy, once Chicagoans are allowed to keep a handgun in their homes we can get rid of exactly that many cops off the street, since those who register have their own protection now.

Too simple for logic.

And as mentioned in the prior post, I certainly don't need the likes of you to protect me or my family, I got my guns. Because it's merely my 8 hours out of a 24 hour day method of paying bills, not the lifestyle it appears to be for you.

From the mind of the ignorant:

"7/26/2008 05:06:00 AM" says:

"It's great SCC take
s a side. But for a moment attempt to view the before, middle and ending of the entire scenario from a neutral point of view as a human being who was designed to have some measure of compassion for the human race."

Move your sorry ass to the west or south side ghetto, housing is dirt cheap there, along with those human being lives you're so passionate about, then, after living there for a full year, if you last that long, come back and tell us all about your compassion.

"Daley alleges this: DON'T let any more people have guns in this city than those that can't be controlled, and we don't have to pay to teach people who may or may not listen. DON'T allow normally decent intelligent folk to have handguns in hopes of preventing a situation where his police department gets to kill someone under cover of law. DON'T allow more citizens to have guns, thereby increasing any chances of a bad situation occurring when first responders arrive which could possibly hurt them. and DON'T allow more citizens to have guns in this city due to the fact that it will at various points in our future cost the taxpayers MORE money in lawsuits being filed against the department, frivolous or not, stemming from more guns being allowed inside people's homes regardless of whether the city can blame it on the supreme court."

Condensed version of the above:

Daley doesn't give a fuck about anyone but Daley and company, regardless of what mealy mouthed bullshit comes out of his pie hole.

If citizens have the means to protect themselves, that would mean that citizens don't need Daley's brand of 'government' to do so, hence, Daley, and his ilk, become irrelevant and unnecessary.

Plus, what makes you think Daley and his crew aren't profiting from the violence in the two major ghettos of this city? Who do you think has been, is, and will continue to, amass properties, at bargain basement prices, throughout these blighted areas?

Have you ever heard of TAX AUCTIONS?

How about FORECLOSURE AUCTIONS?

And the ever popular 'I gots to gets da hell outa dis naybahood, 'cause deys be shootin' alls da times!!!'.

"In the end, Daley isn't making cash, gaining MORE political favor or enriching his friends from banning handguns in the city."

Sure he is.

There are many idiots, such as yourself, who, having lived their entire lives safely ensconced in either a safe neighborhood of this city or in a safe suburb, haven't a clue as to how unsafe a living environment can be, so unsafe, in fact, that the only difference between living and being murdered is possessing the means to resist being murdered with equal or greater deadly force than the person seeking to take your life.

Those idiots heartily support the Daley's of this world, content to believe that, for the meager sums they pay in taxes, they deserve to be protected, from the perils of the real world, from cradle to grave. As if any amount of money can buy your safety. And, as if just believing something makes it so. You've been watching too much Sesame Street, TeleTubbies and Barney.

And the other type of idiots, those living amidst the perils previously mentioned, having no brains and no balls, look to the Daley's and their ilk to 'save them', from their neighbors and family members, and, of course, from the big, bad, poleeces.

"And before anyone makes the case that he's just trying to enrich his lawyer friends by fighting a long case, think for a second who it is that's making those laywer friends rich, Daley or the NRA who files the suits against him, thereby causing the money to flow into his friends hands?"

With this kind of use of 'logic', it's no wonder you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground.

You may not trust yourself to keep and bear arms, and, after reading your convoluted nonsense, I don't trust you either, but, unlike your ignorantly self-satisfied self, I won't deny you the right to exercise your Right to Defend yourself, said right being the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, should you choose to do so.

Next time you find yourself faced with a peril greater than stubbing your toe or getting a flat tire, deal with it yourself.

Hey Mr. DimBulb,
How about the reason being that:
THE BAN IS ILLEGAL!
Can you comprehend what that means?

Even though you as a cop have to interact with the dregs of society, there are some good, law abiding people in Chicago that deserve to be able to protect themselves.

Despite you "feeling" that "it is a fact that if allowed, there would be more guns in the city", I hate to break it to you but your "feelings" don't mean shit. What matters is those God given rights we have vs those that would deny them. (that pesky Constitution again!)

for those of you that don't speak/ read Greek....

You lose from any standpoint you take, and standing on "it's my right" as extrapolated from ancient laws ain't strong enough to a lite breeze.

Officer I respectfully submit you are speaking gibberish.

The facts are:

1. There are many, many independent studies completely unrelated to the NRA that evidence that the 2nd Amendment reduces crime and with Right to Carry laws crime is even reduced more in those jurisdictions.

Just Google, "2nd Amendment reduces crime." You can find zillions of articles pro and con. Bottom line, there IS the 2nd Amendment and that right is given to the "People" not "Government" and that ain't citing "ancient" law IT IS THE LAW -- always has been. It's common sense.

Locally there were two real life instances where having a gun or not made the difference in the outcome in a home invasion. I could cite many more but these two make my point. I'm not an NRA member, btw.

Instance one...download the .pdf file from link below of the detailed article, Self-Defense vs. Municipal Gun Bans by Robert Bruggen. The article is about DALE DEMAR of Willamette, Illinois, who in 2003 shot a burglar in self defense. It was the burglar's second home invasion of DEMARS's home. Given the local gun ban at the time, local officials charged DEMAR with "crime" of possessing a firearm. Charges were ultimately dropped when the liberals in Willamette got an earful from the MAJORITY about the LAW.

http://www.newcoalition.org/
Article.cfm?artId=18006

Second instance...

In May of 2002 a Southside woman, RONYALE WHITE, was shot in her kitchen by her estranged husband after the victim called 911 repeatedly. The city paid over 4 million dollars for the late response to the cal.

http://www.allsafedefense.com/
news/Outdated%20News/
911_Victim.htm

For whatever reason sadly, the cops didn't make it sooner rather then later.

That in and of itself is not the real tragedy of the story. Had the woman had a gun and was trained to use it, she would have at least had a fair chance.

2. Just because you say most crime happens outside the home doesn't give you or any other liberal cocksucker the right to tell me I don't have the right to bear arms under the 2nd Amendment.

As you dismissively point out, it is my constitutional right to have a firearm. You, Daley or any other nanny state nutsack can go fuck yourselves. If I'm so inclined, I can fly the American flag soaked in shit and/or I can own a firearm.

Are you kidding me, the 1st watch captain is prince, if we had more like him this would be a better place to work as a department. The reason we have so many one man cars is that he lets us use our time due with out giving us a song and dance about not having enough people to work. He'd rather keep the watch happy by gving time due, than denying it like so many others. If you work there then you are disgruntled. Our Capt is the one of the best, plain and simple. He has our backs in an old school way. And after the passing of one of our own, he was a rock, a leader for everyone to look to.

Re: openings in 019, at least two were retirements and one opening is due to a death IN THE LINE OF DUTY, in case you forgot. If 019 is so overstaffed with so little crime while all the rest of you cry poormouth, then why do they have to run 99 cars on every watch? They're in the same boat as everybody else. Just bid in, or don't. It's a pleasant change from 002. People actually MEAN it when they wave at a police car, bizarre as it may sound. (It takes some getting used to, though.)

Re: the first watch captain - this guy is the real deal. People were scrambling to escape the other two watches the last few months, but nobody leaves midnights. It's not that the hours are so great, or the restaurants are so much better and easier to find on mids; it's because of the good bosses on the watch.

You can't have it both ways; you can't cry that the good people of 016, 020, and 022 deserve police protection, too, then say 'oh, 019 (at some 70 po's short) is overstaffed because they have lower crime than 002 or 007 or 011'. EVERY district is short; it's just a game of filling the hole in the sand at the beach. Next month, different hole.
