Bloody night is Austin the night before last:
- One man was sitting in a car near a corner where drugs are sold every day. Another man may have quarreled with an acquaintance before someone pulled a gun. And yet another man was with friends in a parked car when a group walked up beside them on the sidewalk.
Within about an hour around midnight Wednesday, three men died—and two others were wounded—in three shootings in the Austin neighborhood, yet another flash of street violence in a summer that has seen murders increasing in Chicago after five years of decline.
Hurry State Troopers! Hurry National Guard!! Hurry non existent recruit class to cover the dwindling manpower numbers!!! We can't hold this place together long enough for the Olympic bid to succeed!

The problem might be that the police are not arresting the drug dealers like they used to do on a regular basis. The drug dealers would sit in county jail and wait for their trials. Now they are on the streets shooting each other. Who wants CR numbers and law suits or no probable cause in court when you did your job. It's not a problem for me. I'm saving tax dollars when they kill each other. I don't have to pay for their section 8, link cards, disabilities (learning disabled) or for the money I spend sending them to jail or prison.

Wanted to relay that tonight I went out to dinner at restaurant in my neighborhood, which, admittedly, has some bad pockets even after yuppyfication. This place is on the fringe.
Since I work nights, most dinner establishments out of my district never see me. I was introduced to the owner by a relative and my occupation was mentioned only as a reason why I've never been in before. The owner immediately thanked me "for your service to all of us in Chicago."
No mention of towing, Abbate, Cozzi, Jefferson Tap, etc.; just a sincere guy wanting to thank the police for being the police.
Even with 15+ on, I could use that more often.

In the Sun Times today, page 37, a recruit fired for failing the sit up test has filed a law suit. let the courts expose the system of administering physical fitness test at academy. The question of interlocking fingers has lingered for years. I graduated last year and watched how instructors gave the test. Every instructor that monitors the test has a different method. I heard instructors compalin about the power test. Not a question of completing situps but interlocking fingers. They do not play fair at academy. Hopefully, justice will prevail. I am glad to be off probation.

Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis has agreed to sending a select group of tactical officers to join a coalition of local police officers from across the nation to supplement the law enforcement community in Denver.
Law enforcement experts have speculated that the convention could experience civil unrest depending on many factors. The DNC is hoping for a peaceful and united experience but law enforcement officials are planning for the worse.

The other day a traffic accident occurred in 025 with subsequent shots fired by offenders at the other vehicle in the accident. The offenders that did that did the shooting fled the scene while driving a gold SUV with some stupid SUV club name on the back of the vehicle’s window.
About 20 min later, the same sh*tbirds driving the gold SUV (with fresh vehicle damage) call 911, say their vehicle was carjacked by 3 m/1’s, state they tracked the carjackers down, and are chasing them on foot. 015 dist officers snatch up the “victims,” a show up is done to the original agg assault/hit and run victims, and the “carjacked victims” go to jail.
LOL, nice try with the carjacking story joe. They even couldn't figure out to say there was only two carjackers instead of three because when they crashed and shot at the victims in the original incident, there was only two of them in the vehicle. Duhhhhhhhh

To the guy complaining about the situps in the academy, I had to pass the situps portion of the test and you probably did too. So if these new recruits can't pass then they should be fired! If you can shoot, fired! This is not a new process.

As a retired P.O. working pt security now, I would like to thank the 1st and 2nd watch officers from the 10 sector in 011 who assisted myself and another security officer at Erie & Kilpatrick Tuesday nite into Weds morning. We were assigned and were sitting on two 2-ton spools of 3 inch copper wire. How the westsiders got them there and on the ground with one of them in the alley is unknown. However when these com-edison spools were found and recovered the locals were a little upset that there lottery wire winnings got cancelled. Anyway I want to thank the guys from 11 who kept an eye on us in that battle zone.

In 011 at roll call a few days back....we got yelled at for not using our in car cameras. When we spoke up and said most of them don't work, and the ones that do won't upload at the end of the night, we were told that was bull shit. We were also told that we weren't bringing in and recording enough activity in the "violence zone". My opinion to the powers that be....you think such lectures at roll call are going to make me produce more? What a fucking joke. I answer my calls. I could give a shit about anything else. Where in my non-existant contract does it say that I have to bring in activity in the "violence zone"? You want to spar me for not using my camera that you refuse to have fixed? Please do, I could use the money from the grievance/lawsuit.
Don't worry, as long as we keep having beat meetings crime will stop. As long as we keep the loitering ordinance repealed, violence will be curbed. As long as we continue to have probable cause denied on surveillance cases, morale will rise again. And these daily, useless "missions" we are put on are clearly reducing crime city-wide. Please send in the National Guard/ISP...then I can stop answering my calls too.

The ISP was going to offer recent retirees the chance to work as desk officers, equipment officer, range, etc (basically house mouse jobs) and then have the troopers currently in those positions available to work the Chicago ghetto details. But the FOP put an end to that idea, as all of those "inside positions" are protected by the FOP contract. I lightly peruse this sight on occasion and enjoy the posts by SCC and sometimes glance at the comments. I've posted my own comments a few times, but mostly just observe.
SCC, I appreciate your passion for wanting change within our dept and city, however, I really don't think it matters who our supe is, what laws get passed through congress, how many gangbangers or innocents get killed, whether or not we get the Olympics in 2016 2020 or 2024.
The only thing that will ever change anything in this city, or state for that matter, is who the next Mayor will be. Until Richie gets defeated, walks away, or gets indicted(hope hope), then nothing will change. And if one of his stooges takes over, it will be business as usual.
Unless we elect a Mayor that has no ties to the Daley Machine, we will be bitching about the same things till the day we all die.

The question of interlocking fingers has lingered for years. I graduated last year and watched how instructors gave the test. Every instructor that monitors the test has a different method. I heard instructors compalin about the power test. Not a question of completing situps but interlocking fingers. They do not play fair at academy. Hopefully, justice will prevail. I am glad to be off probation.

The controversy is whether or not state law enforcement standards say that you have to have your fingers locked behind your head during the situps. I know a lot of people who were taught to keep their hands flat behind their heads, and that was OK. Others were taught to lock their fingers. I don't know what the state standards say, and I wasn't there obviously when the recruits were told/not told to lock their fingers.
Controversy seems to be revolving around one Sgt in particular there flunking a lot of people for not locking the fingers. From what I hear, she is interpreting this to mean that your fingers cannot move at all, even if they remain locked behind your head. In other words,if they are locked, and a finger moves sideways, that sit-up does not count.
Again, I wasn't there, but too much is going on around one instructor. With no comment to the troops about it, something looks bad here. Too many officers have relatives that try to get on the job. Comments to the troops would be appropriate to put out a fire like this, albeit a small one.
Who knows how to get a copy of the state standards, as printed by the state? Maybe a hyperlink?

If it was only that simple. There has been , how shall we say, a variance, in how the sit ups are graded during the power tests to get on the job and the Academy. If you are a 1 as your code you could pretty much do what you wanted, hands apart, together, locked, etc. If you had any other code, 2,3,4,etc, you HAD to have your hands locked together behind your head or they were not counted. Everyone should have been held to the same standard but they were not. This is why the power tests are not video taped even though the idea was floated a couple of years ago. Whether you like it or not this lawsuit has merit.

I can do maybe 60 situps in a minute, so I believe the recruit needed to be fired for some reason, and the sit ups was it. He needed to go for one reason or another.
A fighter is told, "Don't put it in the hands of the judges." His performance was so marginal, he put it in the hands of the judges, who disqualified one or two of his sit ups and failed him. If he was truly physically fit, this wouldn't have been a problem.

Sounds to me like the original commentator is implying that the majority of the murders being committed are by blacks. how is that a racist statement? For all his faults, Weis had nothing to do with the BIS debacle. It was before his time. It was all home grown testicle lickers behind that genius move.
I have worked in Area 5 Homicide for over five years and I am willing to wager that over 80 percent of the homicides committed in that time were black on black. As a matter of fact I am going to do a little research of my own and post the ACTUAL racial makeup of all homicides committed in Area 5 within the last five years. I can do maybe 60 situps in a minute, so I believe the recruit needed to be fired for some reason, and the sit ups was it. He needed to go for one reason or another.
A fighter is told, "Don't put it in the hands of the judges." His performance was so marginal, he put it in the hands of the judges, who disqualified one or two of his sit ups and failed him. If he was truly physically fit, this wouldn't have been a problem.

Certain judges rule against and recruit is fired. Severe punishment for finger position. I passed but struggled with tests. Everyone is not perfect in academy but firing a recruit for such a minor item? Let a real judge decide in court.
They should call it the "BUD BILLYCLUB" parade............

Maybe Inspector Big Bird (aka McMahon) can write up more coppers for having magazine carriers of the wrong finish or vest carriers with the wrong number of pockets and thereby lower the number of homicides.
Why isn't that numbskull birg Bird put into service to canvass murder scenes and maybe knives, bullet cases etc. won't be missed. Big Bird could get a detail cleaning the shithouses over at 3510 S Michigan and he would then be doing a greater service to the City than what he does now.

Numbers were obtained, and sgts were notified...and still they remain broken. How about you leave your opinions to yourself and allow the working police to share their comments. Just because you think you "used to work in Fillmore" don't hate the people that still have the balls to do police work...in all the districts, not just 011.
