A GREAT Idea

  • Cook County's pothole holidays are over.

An internal audit prompted by a Sun-Times report found that County Highway Supt. Rupert Graham's order requiring road repair crews to observe "no-drive" days twice-a-month to save on fuel was a waste.

We think this could be adapted to the CPD no problem.
  • District Commanders designate a sector to "stand down" for the tour - Mon/Thurs the 10 sector; Tues/Fri the 20 sector; Wed/Sat the 30 sector. Between 3 and 5 cars don't move for the tour except for 10-1's or shootings. The manpower is available at the District just in case, and the savings is gas is amazing.
We also loved this stat from the same article:
  • The audit also found that of 164 highway maintenance employees, only 92 work on road repair crews.

The other 72 employees are supervisors and administrative staff.

This is our county government hard at work. How many miles of county road are there that aren't actually served by another jurisdiction? Or that couldn't be subcontracted out to a nearby suburb? The way we see it, that's 164 jobs that ought to be cut out of the budget right about now.

SCC,

The point is that it takes 72 supervisors to monitor the work of 92 asphalt workers.

That's almost 1 supervisor for each worker. No wonder you always see 3 guys standing there while 1 guy holds the shovel. I would love to know the ratio of sups to workers in all the city departments. Talk about a waste of tax money. What is it now, 10.75%?

I've been on a police work holiday since 01 JULY 07. No contract no work. Let the crime rate go through the roof I care as much about the city as it does about me.

They've been pretending to work for years. If they actually fell into a schedule, we'll really get more than we've been paying for in the past.
Out of an 8 hour day, they only work 4 (if that) and weekends off.

who knows what they do? who knows what coppers do?

If somebody pointed out the number of officers actually working on a beat car in any given week, the CPD comparasion would put the comparison from Cook County to shame.

280 or so beats x 3 watches x 2 officers per car would mean a mere 1680 officers to put up each beat car on each watch as a 10-4 unit. Chicago is lucky to put up 1000 or 1100 officers on beat cars any given day, and perhaps 1600 or 1650any given week.

Patrol is supposed to be the backbone of the department. Beat officers are the equivalent of the asphalt workers on a Cook County road crew.

So what in the hell are the other 10000 or 11000 "officers" doing? No offense to the working dicks and supervisors, but anybody here should get the point.

Cook County has 9 of 160 doing road work?

CPD has perhaps 1 of 8 even IN a beat car.

And they will not privatise government.

Look at the waste in the county government and the forest preserve district. Then go over to the sanitary district, the hospitals,
the cook county housing authority, the courts, the townships.

Look at the judge pinched for DUI in Tinley Park, married to Daleys cousin. All other county employees are placed on administrative leave, no salary, this bitch is receiving her full salary of 119000.00 a year. And we all know the fix is in.

were is the out rage over the toddlers election, how they kept a vegetable alive and denied the people a choice of candidates.

CPD has already adopted that. With no pool cars, some beats are already idle. Hmmmm, maybe I'm onto something........

Yeah, but don't kid yourself. When you register the car, the Secretary of State will collect the appropriate sales tax for where you live.

Just wait until next year when they determine that they are down in sales tax revenue, what will they do?

Simple,in their infinte wisdom they will raise the sales tax higher to offest the loss that was caused by the highest sales tax in the nation...

Brillance,NOT
