Lincoln Park Drive-By
A man attempting to break up a fight was shot Friday night in the North Side’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.
The shooting happened about 10:15 p.m. at 1642 N. Vine St., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado.
The victim observed two unknown people having a verbal altercation when he approached and separated them, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said. The two went their separate ways, and one of them got into a maroon-colored vehicle, O'Brien said.
As the vehicle fled, shots were fired, striking the victim.
Downtown, Lincoln Park, Rock and Roll McDonald's. Tourists and yuppies - the people he can hit up for taxes, fees, fines and other money - all in danger of fleeing or staying away. But he'll let his puppets play their political games, attacking the union, shuffling duties, creating six-figure spots for idiots.

OT A year ago there were just over 10,000 police officers w/ paycode 9161. One year later that number is now 9964 for the entire department. Looking at where the officers are/aren't is the Patrol Division, we currently have 7,205 assigned to districts 1-25. Take the number assigned to Patrol subtract front office, desk, caps, lockup, tac teams and officers on medical and IOD, add in officers on furlough, RDO's and leave of absences, then divide by three watches and seven day off groups. WHERE ARE THE OFFICERS AT? The bosses want to know why there is a spike in crime, the fact that we are so short handed might have something to do with there are no officers to patrol the streets. Here is another fact we have less than 1200 (1161 to be exact) detectives on the job. Think they might be strectched a little thin to handle the uptick in crime? The bosses have to realize that this job requires that you have resources on the ground. Yeah, sure cameras are nice at 50-75K a pop but, the fact is technology cannot do the job on its own. Technology is there to enhance the work that officers do not replace the officers. Keep telling us we are up full manpower. How many of us have to ride 99 on 3rd or 1st watch? How many of us are having time, our time due denied, due to no manpower. How many more of us will be hurt or God forbid, killed due to no manpower. Is the department double counting people assigned to a district and also counting them assigned to units that they are detailed to? The numbers do not lie. Stay safe and go home at the end of your shift.

A new web page exists where you can put in your pc code and you are rated with nice colors red is bad, yellow, and green. They also track your TRRs vs. arrests. Everyone will be expected to keep up with their arrests or they will be subject to admonishment or SPAR forms. If their behaivor does not change they will be the subject of a CR. You will comply.

Bigger house, more land, better schools, still close to the shitty right off I55..... the amount of crime where you live is frightening, considering what you pay.... take a good look at who shops at your stores and walks down your streets.... I have no problem going and policing the lovely section 8 of beat 1813, but when a certain resident/lawyer approaches us on a street stop and starts asking us why are we stopping these outstanding citizens and then offers them legal service while we are standing there makes me wonder who really cares about there neighborhood.

The one post was correct. There is some type of "assisted" income housing just north of North Avenue near Orchard and Vine. It's been a problem for years.
I don't recall if it is CHA direct owned or "Section 8". It really doesn't matter. The problems are the same.
Fifteen years ago or less that area and the adjacent hood just south of North Avenue were a whole lot worse. My guess is some "community translator" or former gang banger turned social worker intervened and the wittle darlings took offense.

Mr. Lincoln Parker,
You seem like the kind of person I would enjoy spending a few moments with discussing the ills that plague us all if you happened to flag me down on the street to bring them to my attention. I’m sure that conversation would bring a certain measure of comfort to each of us – to you, by learning that I sympathize with your problems and work to resolve them to the best of my ability, and to myself for meeting another citizen who supports the police. Unfortunately I’m not there and you’re not here so this blog will have to serve the purpose.
Know that despite the demoralizing, corrupt, political environment we live and work in there are plenty of real police out there who watch over you, your family, and others like you. Real police will always be there for you when you need them the most. We knowingly put ourselves in the path of evil day after day, 24 hours a day, so that you may never have to. My greatest hope is that my own loved ones never have to know the horrifying world I encounter when I’m working. I truly hope that kind of horror never touches your life either.
Too bad we can’t chat over a beer or something. Like I said, I’d probably enjoy that, but then again I’m just one officer speaking on behalf of many. If we did meet you’d have just one face to put to these thoughts so perhaps it’s better that we don’t meet. The fact is, you’re surrounded by us. I hope you and your family sleep a little better at night knowing that.

"The Toddler" only lost to Peraica in five of 50 wards in the city: Wards 41, 45, 38, 42 and 43 (Lincoln Park).
The 1600 block of Vine/Orchard is the armpit on the north end (10 sector) of 018. To the south of North Ave. with Cabrini all but gone, the rowhouses and the Marshall Field bldg. at 1400 N. Sedgwick St. would qualify as the anus of 018.

Timmy Bickham (003 - 3rd watch) IS the real deal. You'll never hear him start a conversation with "Back in the day when I was in....." but he's been on a beat car, tac, units, sgt and lt (by score, no merit). Was a Lt when he was 37 and is smart, funny and stands up for the troops.
But, of course, since he is able to achieve this spot w/o a phone call and has the backs of the men/women, he'll be allowed to wallow in the 003rd dist until he can bail out with a pension and turn his back on this shithole of a City.

I am happy that you are successful enough to afford to pay over $1M for a residence. I would like to think that someone smart enough to make that much money would have the good sense to do a little research into the area before one drops a ungodly amount of money into it.

I can't wait for that Trump guy to finish that building. I've always wanted to live on Michigan Ave and shiit. My play cousin is putting in my application for that section 8 as soon as it's ready to be moved in. All three of my baby's daddy's said that those folks on Michigan Ave gots lots of dough, and they're easy pickings. OT I wonder what type of system will be created by the D/S of BAS to rate officers. I understand that such a program is now being created. A new web page exists where you can put in your pc code and you are rated with nice colors red is bad, yellow, and green. They also track your TRRs vs. arrests. Everyone will be expected to keep up with their arrests or they will be subject to admonishment or SPAR forms. If their behaivor does not change they will be the subject of a CR. You will comply.

There hasn't been a Captain's test since 1983. The rank was eliminated with no further promotions upon the adoption of CRAPS in 1992. The plan was to eliminate the rank and have co-watch commanders as LTs. When Captain was restored as a rank and new promotions were made--they were made mertitoriously, so piss off.
She screwed things up in 1 northside district and now she do it to yours.

There hasn't been a Captain's test since 1983. The rank was eliminated with no further promotions upon the adoption of CRAPS in 1992. The plan was to eliminate the rank and have co-watch commanders as LTs. When Captain was restored as a rank and new promotions were made--they were made mertitoriously, so piss off.

You seem like the kind of person I would enjoy spending a few moments with discussing the ills that plague us all if you happened to flag me down on the street to bring them to my attention. I’m sure that conversation would bring a certain measure of comfort to each of us – to you, by learning that I sympathize with your problems and work to resolve them to the best of my ability, and to myself for meeting another citizen who supports the police. Unfortunately I’m not there and you’re not here so this blog will have to serve the purpose.
Know that despite the demoralizing, corrupt, political environment we live and work in there are plenty of real police out there who watch over you, your family, and others like you. Real police will always be there for you when you need them the most. We knowingly put ourselves in the path of evil day after day, 24 hours a day, so that you may never have to. My greatest hope is that my own loved ones never have to know the horrifying world I encounter when I’m working. I truly hope that kind of horror never touches your life either.
Too bad we can’t chat over a beer or something. Like I said, I’d probably enjoy that, but then again I’m just one officer speaking on behalf of many. If we did meet you’d have just one face to put to these thoughts so perhaps it’s better that we don’t meet. The fact is, you’re surrounded by us. What I want to know is, when will us lowly civilians be allowed to defend ourselves with concealed carry, or at the very least, able to own handguns in our own homes? I shouldn't have to depend on the police to save my ass in an emergency. I like the fact that they exist, but I think the system is broken. 911 is never quite fast enough. My family shouldn't have a right to be victims. I think that's sick. I hope most of the cops out there feel the same way, because as a disarmed citizen, it really sucks. At least you guys can take your piece home with you. I have to leave mine in another state!

It's a safe bet that a vast majority of department members agree that you should be allowed to bear arms, particularly within your household, to protect you and your family.
Legal or not, if you feel you should have a weapon in your home for protection then you should get one and train to handle and store it safely and use it effectively. Don't assume owning one in Chicago automatically makes you an outlaw in the eyes of every police officer out there.....if you know what I mean. Better to risk the possibility of a UUW charge justifiably defending yourself against someone trying to do you harm than have your family and friends cry at your funeral.

Right now I just keep my guns in wisconsin, and have a membership at a gun club up there, but that's only once a month, if I'm lucky that I get to the range for an hour or so. I'd like to be shooting 50-100 rounds a week if possible until I get better. I can do a 5-6" group at 12 yards but that's not good enough.
I have heard rumors that most cops have this mentality. If they have no reason to believe you are using a gun for offensive purposes, they don't ask questions. That's as it should be. The gun ban doesn't work anyway.
Next I'd like to know just how many crimes have been solved with the registration database. It's only $20/gun but over the years, that adds up!

No gun shops or ranges within the city limits.
Why would anyone want to discourage your business?
If you're that worried, put some distance between the city and your range of choice.
I'd post some suggestions, but that would deprive you of the adventure.
Rat me out to the Chicago police. You don't think it's possible that there are do-gooders who seek to inform law enforcement of a possible gun ordinance violation? Sounds far-fetched, but who knows, right?
I don't see what the big deal is though; I mean really - I've been to a few ranges around the area and rented pistols, and the clientele present at the time is quite far from the ghettofabulous asshats you guys deal with from day-to-day.
I guess I was just wondering if the police ever received calls reporting people that haven't committed any crime, other than the fact that they may or may not possess an unregistered weapon in their residence. And if they did..do they even respond? Who gives a shit anyway, right?
