Who Wants Two Hours Pay?

- The Mayor's Office has issued a memorandum (see attached) regarding the City's policy allowing employees to be excused for 2 hours leave in order to accompany their children on the first day of school, Tuesday, 02 September 2008.
The memorandum states that "Salaried employees may take such leave with compensation." How do we all get two hours pay for this? Why, per Section 11.4 of the Contract:
- Section 11.4 - Special Compensation Time.
If, as a result of a declaration by the Mayor, all employees of the City of Chicago except for police and fire department employees are given a day off or portion thereof with pay, then all officers who are required to work during such excused time shall be given compensatory time off at straight time rate equivalent to the hours worked during such excused time.
It seems that all salaried employees are being given a portion of the day off with pay. If nothing else, it's a great theoretical argument. Would someone like to be the first to file a Grievance so the entire Department can get two hours on the books? We promise to spend the first half-hour of money earned on (non-alcoholic) drinks for the successful Grievant.

SCC, if thats a CPD admin fax. then they are giving that to us, thats why the fax went out and you question is moot. Not being granted it by a Watch/Exempt Commander would be a basis for grieving it, choosing not to do it does not mean you get 2 hours.

Last night, in 005, they had three seperate shootings, 1 shot in the gardens, 5 shot in one incident, and another one shot in the face while at a restaurant.
The previous night in 005, they had three shot in two seperate incidents.
So, what does the CPD command leadership do??? They send additional units into 006 because of a shooting two days earlier.
Now I realize that 004, 006 and 005 are all shit holes, filled with savages,and these are people who do not give much thought to anyones life or regard anything highly, but what the hell are is the CPE leadership thinking?

I agree with this person, and even though I love this site-- you can't have it both ways. On one hand, there are hundreds of comments on this site about people not giving a damn about their children, how "certain" parents are not raising their children-- and on and on.
Parents who tend to take their children to school on the first day tend to be the parents who's children tend to be law-abiding, disciplined, and do well in school, because if their parents can take the time to take them to school on the first day, and then go pick up their report cards, and meet with their teachers-- these parents tend to take the education of their children seriously, and that in turn-- trickles down to the children.
I would say that if because you are in a Union which doesn't allow this-- then you need to make sure that your union makes it a part of your contract.

Nobody had to make sure I got to school on the first day. My parents bought my school supplies and I didn't get a free fucking backpack.
Obviously, this was a political all for show bullshit move. So, if they want to do stupid grandstanding crap like this and not pay attention to policy and procedures, then the police should get two hours.
The rules give you rights. If people make rules, then they should be observed. In private industry you don't just put out a memo or organize some event without consulting the legal dept or considering the impact it will have on the rest of the company.
CPD should get two hours. Period.

Day tour personnel and "house mice" do not qualify for shift differential.
Check this out with the NYPD and other major depts. Your night and midnight street officers are being ripped off. Also, almost all major depts. do NOT have residency requirements.
DEMAND SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL!

You are an ass!!! My husband works three jobs so we can live in a modest house in one of the best neighborhoods in the city of Chicago. In fact, some of the best public schools in the state are on the north side of Chicago.
You must live on the south side. Maybe you should sell that big house down south and buy a small house up here. Not only will your child be able to utilize a good school, they can actually go outside and play in the neighborhood.

Also, I'd like to thank Rearend Meek$ for attempting to set this precedence. If it works I will pull my child out of the private school and find a great suburban school to enroll them in. The best part...one month later when 95% of the shitheads are suspended, expelled, locked up, or just quit going because it is too long of a commute my child will be receiving a great education and I'll be saving $8,000 per year for their elementary school tuition. Here Here I agree 100 percent!!! Since I've been on the job I have worked 3 jobs to put my kids in good schools. The last 5 years all I've heard up north is the schools have gotten better. Bullsh** What changes have they made? What have they done at Onahan or Hitch to make them better nothing. Like you said it's about driving the big cars and having a Harley. This department has gotten selfish and lazy.

Depends on the neighborhood. I removed my son from Catholic school and put him in Oriole Park two years ago. The workload was close to double, the workload was advanced beyond what his friends in the Catholic school were doing, and most importantly, every one of the staff at that school was and is EXCELLENT.
I haven't bought a Harley, but now I can put those tuition costs into a college fund for him while knowing he is still getting a superior education. And he doesn't have to be taught to be an elitist prick.
Why doesn't the FOP demand that an off duty police officer be assigned to every construction site in the city for traffic control??? Time and a half mandatory and bill the "friends of da mayor" who are making 100s of millions of dollars off this these never ending condo develpments!! You go on thinking that you live in the safe part of the 4th District, the 5th District (Just exactly where is that located?), or the 6th District. I know, you will say that Terry Hillard lived in the 6th District, and that the 6th District is changing. And you know what? I will agree with you!! It is changing….for the worse! The place is being overrun with the savages. To me, it just proves how messed up Hillard was. You make all that money and you still live in that shit hole of an area.
If you live in one these three districts and you are the police, you need to wake up. These districts are savage ruled, whether or not everybody that lives there are a savage and that is NOT the question. It does not matter if you are black, white, Hispanic or Asian, and if you are the police, and you do not know what a savage is, you need to ask around. Again, not a racial thing – like so many like to scream – it is a FACTUAL thing. The fact remains that the inmates run the asylum in these districts.
Work special, get a part time job, sell the nice car and get a Ford, stay in for a weekend, brown bag it, live within your means, whatever – just MOVE! Find a place that you can live at, a place were the car payments are not more than the mortgages, you will find out that you are a lot safer, and your family will be a lot happier.

Depends on who is rating the schools. The last Tribune list put Edison #1 and Lenart #2. However, I was not talking about selective enrollment schools. I am talking about neighborhoods schools such as Edgebrook, Sauganash, Oriole, Bell, Ebinger etc.

On northwest side, Edison park opened a new public grade school. many families leaving local catholic schools for a free education. With parents involved, the school can compete with any private school. Big difference from south side. North side has options.
Here Here I agree 100 percent!!! Since I've been on the job I have worked 3 jobs to put my kids in good schools. The last 5 years all I've heard up north is the schools have gotten better. Bullsh** What changes have they made? What have they done at Onahan or Hitch to make them better nothing. Like you said it's about driving the big cars and having a Harley. This department has gotten selfish and lazy.

No, they have a father you dickhead! My husband is there for our children coaching their sports and volunteering at their school. Our children are his life and that is why he sacrifices so much for them. So tell me, what is the difference if we pay for the neighborhood or the private school? Anyway you look at it he would still have to work side jobs. We are a family of six and trying to get by on a PO salary!!
By the way, I don't give a shit where you live! If you live up north and decide that you want to throw your money away on a private school when there are better neighborhood public schools that can be utilized that’s your own business. However, it depends on where you live, not all north side schools are that good. We happen to live in a neighborhood where the public school is better than the Catholic school. I just don’t appreciate people telling us we are bad parents because we choose to send our children to a public school.
