Hey Look!
- Chicago police officers in nearly a dozen districts and units will try out new schedules in 2009, including a 10-hour, four-day work week, in a pilot program the city hopes will cut overtime and boost officer morale.
Officers had been pushing for changes to work schedules during negotiations with the city on a new contract, now more than a year overdue.
And the Police Board firings become a regular news item!
- Three Chicago police officers were fired last month by the Chicago Police Board, according to records made public Friday.
At least they do us the courtesy of burying the crap in the Saturday paper like they do for unpopular City Hall moves. Hooray! We rate as high as ward heelers finally.

How can the FOP agree to part of a contract without a vote by the membership? How can the city implement a partial contract when they gave a formal rejection to a fire department negotiation of starting the raises that had been agreed upon until the whole contract was completed because the law said that they couldn't?
The contract is going to an arbitrator---everyone knows it. Why do we have to wait until the contract has been expired for 15-18 months to request arbitration? Start negotiating the f---in contract earlier so when it goes to an arbitrator we have the results prior to the contract expiring. Donahue and the rest of you FOP dogs---get off of your overpaid asses and get the f===in contract done you f===in ass kissin suckholes.

The police board will now be on a "witch hunt" to fire more officers, just beacuse it is now a "hot issue heater" with the press! We can only hope no rash decisions are made due to being scared of media scrutiny!

those two dont seem to go together.....
Screw hicks...anyone who cant fire at an asshole that pulls a gun on a copper deserves to get dumped. Thats why cops carry guns...to protect themselves and other cops.
all of the sudden the board is launching people. i know one of the individuals personally and he did not deserve to lose his job. he went to trial on criminal allegations made against him and was found not guilty on all counts. three years ago this kid would have gotten a few days, but now he gets fired. all you greyhounds out there hauling ass to all those 19 pauls better look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself if losing your job, house, and means to support your family is worth the risk you take when doing proactive police work. when you get in trouble all the commendations, honorables, and stuff you did for the boss will mean nothing. and , as usual, the city is showing their gratitude for all the hard work you do with no contract, threats of abolishing pension, threats of diminishing health care benefits for retirees prior to medicare age, and sticking us with the tofu eating ppo superintendent. yep, keep working, keep generating activity, but don't come to me with your hand out when you have your benefit.

they have cut overtime crime has increased, they cut officers crime increased morale booster! How about a decent contract and daley leaving that would help boost morale!
hey..what ever happened to Krupa..? they fire him..? did he win his lawsuit against the city..?
Wow the new schedule is going to be awesome. I am a son of a retired PO who worked in the old A/2 Task Force. I still have his TF patch. The new schedule is going to give me more time to do the job and not have to worry about overtime issues with the bosses. Last night my partner and I wrote five movers, 30 parkers and from our last mover we got a UUW arrest of a guy with an federal warrant for violations of Title 18 of the US Code. The warrant was from an elite three letter agency you don't dare mention. We called them and left a message. Within 15 minutes the duty agent called us and actually came out to the station with two US Marshal's deputies whoi didn't say much to grab the prisoner. The duty agent really thanked us. From her got raid caps, recruiting brochures, pens, coffee mugs etc. She was a hot mixed F1/F2. She gave the W/C an awesome tee shirt. Our own dicks won't do that. Too bad we had nothing but war stories to give her. This FED showed us 3 undercover drivers licenses she had with undercover social security cards and an undercover pilot's license. She drove a way too cool Buick. The out of state license plate came back not in the system. She really seemed to admire working coppers. She said her job unfortunately was a lot of paper and not much time on the street. We gave her a tour of the Area, introduced her to a grouchy ass Sgt upstairs in the area, the sarge wouldn't take her card (what an atavist embarresment for us) and showed her around the lockup etc. She gave us her card and said she and her boss would spring for lunch wherever and whenever me and my partner could meet her. The WC told us not to go to lunch with her because feds are not your friends. He gave me the tshirt. The WC said apparently the arrestee was a former confidential informant who went bad on her agency. Too bad with this agency you need a four year degree to enter. Our Sargeant has told us that with our numbers if we continue we can get into a unit. He said that would better than being a FED. I'm holding out for SWAT or HIDTA but I know that requires a lot of juice. Before I got this job I spent many a night wondering if I would be able to pin on a star and be the police. I will work hard and diligently no matter who the bosses are. My last job before coming on the job was a store detective with Marshall Fields. Now I make much more money, have better benefits, and when I put on my uniform and walk out of my apartment I feel special. I went to court in Maywood as a result of a retail theft arrest from my side job and all the suburban cops were visibly in shock and awe at having a CPD officer in their presence. I felt like a Viking Conquerer!
Hey SCC how do I get a blog started for working agressive young coppers?
Seamus from the Northside
Beware of the 50 hour work week! MD tried it last time! Several years ago he tried to slide some scam work schedule without ever explaining it demanding a vote immediately! He cannot be trusted! Their plan is to give you less weekends, making you use those 6/4 days we get every year so we won't cash them in. That alone will save the city millions. Like 5/10s are better than 6/8s? Lets not swallow the hook just yet! They all read this blog daily(Daley) so quit looking like you will settle for the first plan they offer! This is Liars Poker or WSOP so quit showing your cards so fast! Anything that MD or FOP endorse is "advantage" them, not us!
the 4 day on 2 off schedule sucks...hello!!!! there are 7 days in a week! you re working 45 hours a week and no 3 day weekends. isnt a work scedule part of the bargaining agreement?
The one Copper got fired from the
¿LINCOLN? district!! Where the hell is that? Is that some secret beat in 19 that the non-rangers hide?
And yes, good for hicks! I hope they tore the TAB off his sleve before they booted him.....
Well if you do something stupid like those three, then you deserve to get fired. End of story!
I was part of the investigation at area 2 with Hicks. What a hugh embarrassment and coward this guy was.
Where does CPD find these goofs?
are we (008) the only place flop visited wednesday night. what scc reported last is fact per two reps at midnight roll call only thing off was tru will only have a sun-mon-tue dog. watch for the bail out. everything else was right to a tee. here is the kicker, dougherty tells us we should pick up activity too show the city how we like the new schedules and make the city believe it benefits both sides. I say f u how about you go to the city and tell to pick up their activity with our contract. btw scc who ever gave that info was dead on
SCC: Please ask what Missy from 001thinks of the new schedule, so I will be guided..
Is that the Rodriguez the DUI guy who used to be in 023??
I don't think anyone who read the Trib article on the recent board firings could argue a case for any of those officers.
It's too bad the board didn't feel the same about the Starbucks Coffee Gangsta. Why on earth she warranted only a 15 month susp. is anyone's guess. Oh well, 3 out of 4 isn't too bad, I guess...
Poor M R got fired-finally..Guess the "asthma" or whatever it is you clained you had that allowed you to cop the "light duty" in 020..(light duty and 020 -same thing in my book)..I mean all you did was talk on your cell phone at the desk for 8 hours,,,couldnt do radios cause of your asthma??? good riddance!!!
Heard that any Officer with 5 or more CR#s in 1 year time will be headed for the launching pad, if ANY more than 1 is Sustained.
The City must realize that this level of discontentment by the Troops will not be appeased by just giving us a reasonable work schedule. This only equals, after all these decades, the schedules of virtually all modern Police Departments. We really can't pay any more bills on time, and keep up with all the exorbetant taxes here in Crook County with a different work schedule. It's time to get down to the REAL Issues, and it's also time to start demonstrating in front of City Hall.
OT: Any truth the rumor that CPD will have a test in Jan or Feb 09? How long do you think the wait will be to get hired?
Do you guys know anyone who left CPD to go to LAPD? If you had less than 4 years on the job, would you leave CPD if you got hired by LAPD?

And we officers have told the FOP for many years that we want the end of the 6/2 schedule. The FOP does exactly that and gets us not one but three different schedules to run in two districts each and sure enough there are numbskulls who complain.
They never go to a meeting, never read the contract, don't know shit but they complain loudly.
We have a loudmouth in my district who curses the FOP daily. He couldn't find FOP Hall with a map but he is very vocal. He never in his 18 years has gone to a meeting but he complains. It is strokes like him who we don't need.

Once it is implemented and you are not in the district working 6 on 3 off. and 4 on 2 off. You will be working 16 - 18 days more than them for the same pay. Greive it and get your 16 to 18 days more off.

Less gas used to get to work!
THe schedule changes could allow various members a mechanism to be rid of the six-day work week. I am not against the premise that the FOP should attempt the elimination of the six-day week. To the contrary, I appauld the FOP's efforts in these actions. However, a quadary exists as to the methods that the FOP utilized to bring about such monumental changes.
I was at a roll call in 014 on Friday afternoon, which Rich Aguilar and Kevin Graham addressed pertaining to the work schedule. I asked the question why the FOP membership did not get to vote regarding the schedule changes. Rich responded that he did not know.
I can not give FOP enough credit to attempt to have resolution regarding the six-day work week. Rich informed the roll call the potential schedule changes would impact approx. 2,500 members, which according to to my analysis translates into 7,500 to 10,000 members and their families when considering spouses and children. Further, some schedules that work in some units will be problematic in other units.
The FOP argues via the Memerandum of Understanding that members have the ability to bid out of units that do not conform to the individual members liking regarding the work schedule. Only a limited amount of bids exist each period, so for the FOP to state if members want to bid out of units the member does not want to be in is not valid. Less senior FOP members become alomost unwillingly mute.
THE FOP SHOULD HAVE ALLOWED MEMBERS TO VOTE REGARDING SUCH SUBSTANTIAL WORK SCHEDULE CHANGES!

Wow SCC I can't prove it but I think I screwed up by writing to your blog. My Watch Commander separated my partner and I. I got stuck on the truck until the wagon masters come back from furlough. My partner has been placed in the lockup. The old grouchy guy I worked with last night wouldn't let me do shit. He drove the wagon at a steady 35 miles per hour. I wanted to eat Indian or Thai food and we ended up going to an old geezers diner with bland unintersting offerings. He only allowed me to come in with one mover, a parker, and a curfew. The rest were prisoner transports and 19 Pauls. Saw an on view domestic/battery where a lady smacked her guy and my partner just kept driving. Plus he kept the radio. I complained to the WC and he told me go work for my friends the FEDS if I don't like conditions on his watch. This is canard I'm going to put in for the LAPD. Young guys don't be like me be careful about identifying yourself on this blog. I used my middle name and now I am on a wagon for what seems like forever after never having worked the wagon or the lockup. My partner is pissed!!!! His uncle who is a dick told him he completely deserved the lockup.

The same Moron tha TVBs people on Christmas? Not to worry the slack was picked up by another moron who only DUI's Women on midnites.
That District is full o nutjobs
I am for getting rid of the 6th day, but at what cost? The pilot program for 5 & 20 completely sells out the midnight watch. They have deemed the 1st watch as second class officers. The Cpt's are being taken away (no consistency in leadership and good luck getting that time due slip signed or getting any time on the front or end), the car assignments are out the window (don’t care if you’ve been on it for 5 years), and 10-30% of the watch are going to be dumped to 3rd watch at the discretion of the commander.
That last one is the biggest concern (and should be the main concern of the fop). From 0200-0700 1st watch will still be expected to patrol the same area but with 10-30% less manpower. This is a major safety issue and it seems the fop is willing to "give it a try". Sure, they wont be out there when the bars are closing or the gangsta parties are winding down. No skin off their nose when you call your 10-1 and nobody is available to come. Most midnight shifts are only 1 or 2 incidents away from being screwed for manpower as it is and on weekends often are. Imagine if this was the program they implemented citywide.
This just creates the illusion to the citizens of more police yet while they are sleeping (and at their most vulnerable) there are less police on the streets.
Sleep well chicago.........
The one Copper got fired from the
¿LINCOLN? district!! Where the hell is that?

Sounds like someone from 3rd watch in 20 is worried about working midnights. Got news for you-not a lot of 4 am bars (Boomers is vacant) so you're really gonna be ok. And not a lot of 'gangsta' parties. And as for your, 10 to 30%, how do you know how management is going to divide things if they don't know yet. Also- there are some great police officers on midnights in 20 and I've never seen a problem with back up-that's a third watch thing.
Want some cheese with that whine?

True in who's opinion? Yours? We do have a lot of respect out there from other departments and officers who don't put up with a tenth of what we do in one day than they do in a year.
You are ashamed of being a CPD officer, then fucking quit.
Stop denigrating those of us who actually give a shit, even in these trying times of J-Fed.

WRONG!!
There are 4 am bars all over the city but yea, most close at 2 (when the 1st watch will be shorthanded). And while 20 might not have the gangsta parties, 5 sure as hell does and if this were implemented city wide there are plenty of districts that have em.
If the city is telling you they are taking 10-30% that probably means 30%, which also means the union doesn’t care if its 30%. And you don’t see a problem with that eh...(this also means officers are getting dumped FROM 1st TO 3rd watch not the other way around). As great as backup might be, it can only get worse when you remove officers from the street (its simple math).
While you might just dismiss all this as whining because it is only happening to 5 and 20 you have to remember that this has the potential to be citywide. And the union going along with anything that compromises the safety of its officers should not be trivialized.
Dear "WRONG!!"
Reading comprehesion is a wonderful thing- I was only refering to 20, period. There aren't a lot of 4 am bars in 20, period.
It really hurts your arguement when you start blasting someone for what they didn't say or didn't refer to. It was about 20-that's all.

Why all of a sudden do you love the FOP? Why not wait until it is implemented to see how it goes? Do you really think that FOP assembled this on their own without the city's permission? FOP sleeps with City Hall, or did you not know that? Anything that they "bless" is just a differnet bag of shit! Like 5/10s are better than 6/8s! Wait to see how the weekends pan out over the year because that is what everyone on this job looks forward to. That is where the BFDs and PDs and VDAYS will be spent so we can't sell them back! We are up against the best scammers in the world!

I fail to see how I even blasted you at all. If someone telling you that you are wrong offends you then you have pretty thin skin. You seem to be the one who feels the need to blast others with snide comments in your posts.
As you can read in my post it speaks of the program having the potential to be implemented citywide (hence the part that says ALL OVER THE CITY). You are thinking on a small scale level because only 2 districts are doing that pilot program. But this could be your new schedule for 2010 citywide. While this may work in 20, I doubt 5 will like this during the summer when they are short and very busy.
I think my posts are a decent interpretation of the schedule and you have not posted anything that would make me think otherwise.
Skirting the issues and making insulting comments, now thats a way to hurt your argument.
