Ouch

Well, they wanted to start fast. One win, two loses and a shootout loss wasn't fast enough evidently. It is a business after all. We just hope Rocky knows what he's doing.
  • The Chicago Blackhawks fired head coach Denis Savard just four games into the season on Thursday, replacing him with NHL coaching veteran Joel Quenneville.

The team canceled its Thursday practice and scheduled an afternoon news conference for 5:30 p.m. ET.

"I'm disappointed but I guess it's the nature of the business," Savard said from his Chicago home Thursday.

"I know I was doing a good job, I'm dedicated to my work. Obviously they felt they had to make a change, so what can you do."
Thanks for the memories Denis. You were always a class act.

This was not as big a shocker as it appears...Joel Quennville was hired in August as a scout. It was only a matter of time.

I wonder if Flyers upper management will pull something like this too.

The Flyers are now 0-3-1 - equaling the worst four-game start in their history.

It's too early in the season for them to stress me out.

i was hoping more along the lines that with moving savvy the hawks would lull scotty bowman back to coaching andout of the front office.. what a jackass move.

Savoir Faire had the best line ever..."commit to the Indain!" He deserved better, I could see scotty bowman but JQ never produced with the Blues, your classic underachiever. just like the bosses here barely qualified to be in charge.

tallon is next. they kept savy around until now so they could sell all those season tickets. at the end of the day the hawks are all about money. this new coach is a proven commodity. i don't know if savy was a good coach, he wasn't here long enough for me to make a decision. but he was one of the best one on one guys in the game at his peak and was respected by his players. i hope it doesn't take 30 years for him to come aroung again like it did for hull and makita.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasnt Joel a Red Wing during his career? Does Bowman have anything to do with this guy? Out with old Hawks in with old Red Wings?

Unfortunately, the writing was on the wall for Denis. He wasn't Scotty Bowman's guy, and the new coach was just waiting in the wings as a "scout".
