Rumor Gaining Traction

- Dear SCC,
I am hearing rumblings from the 5th floor that our Mayor is looking into replacing Sup. Weiss with either Little Tommy Byrne or James Maurer. Weiss would slide over to Homeland Security Director for the Olympic 2016 dream. The new Superintendent position would be considered at first an interim position (as to not embarrass the mayor) and then be phased into full time. Both Byrne and Maurer are top candidates for 2 reasons. One, they are the mayors guys and two as a morale booster to the Department which the mayor has identified as "severely problematic". The strategy "spinning the story to the public to believe that Weiss would be great in this new position and that his(the Mayor) choice Weiss did a great job at restructuring the Police Department with firings and dumps which will begin next Thursday according to a 5th floor insider". This also will coincide with balancing the budget and merging Units within the department and balance the drastic shortage of manpower by closing Districts and rezoning beats.
This ties together a bunch of stuff that's been appearing on and off in the comments for about 5 weeks now, numerous rumors coming out of Administrative units and a few e-mails we've been getting from downtown. So either someone has been putting together a fantastic story and leaking it in pieces from twenty or thirty different sources or changes are afoot and a lot of people are starting to put the pieces together.
Even D-Day wasn't a complete secret from anyone who paid attention.
UPDATE: We think the Tommy Byrne referenced is the one who isn't retired.

I think that Idea would be fantastic. Take Tom Byrne out of the mix and we will have a Police Department again. This current regime falls short of that. I feel that if a new Supt. is installed, the confidence from within the rank and file would rebuild itself.
If heneral maurer gets it, will we be allowed to carry guns unlike his soldiers at the airport............
I have to admit when I heard this from a well placed source I thought it was speculation. So I sat on the info. Gotta admit Maurer would be a good choice.

I hope this is true and they bring Maurer back, but only if they give the guy full rein. He called a savage a savage and paid a heavy price. So look where the mayor's choices have got us. Maurer will NEVER get it because he unfortunately spoke his mind and said what everybody else was thinking several years ago without the approval of the midget or southside rev's. A story was just read out on WBBM 780 AM about how the mayor is going to close down almost all of city government for 3 days in the next couple of months to help balance the budget. Only essential services will remain open. No word on the story about the people working in those departments---whether they get paid. The tone of the story said that the mayor was angry at these departments for not taking furlo days, so this may be his attempt to try to get around union rules and take them anyway.
Sounds like those unions have a good grievance to begin fighting over.

In nearly 25 years on this job the majority of the guys are honest hard workers trying to take care of the citizens in the worst neighborhoods known to man.
I was once proud of the CPD. When we went to merit appointments, and made college a mandatory part of employment this department went into the gutter. We are hiring people who never worked in the private sector: this to a lot of people is their first job. The high school graduates have better people skills and a understanding of life that takes these college graduates years to accept the concept. I have a b/a degree, all my children have degrees, but that would not make them good policemen.
Look at the females coming on this job for the sole purpose of attaining a secretarial job. Look at the e-mails from headquarters, six year female warriors.
Remember civil service captains that dumped people of the watch for no activity? Remember when mutts got transferred in, and immediately out, on a telephone order.
Remember when a sergeant was treated with respect not as a precinct captain? Remember going to roll call an a p/o with three stripes or a star where considered idol like, some one that was there for you to learn from, with a wealth of knowledge to make this dept run right.

Stop and think for a moment. IF this rumor is even remotely true, you have done to the Mayor what nobody else has been able to do. Screwed him hard and didn't even give him the courtesy of a reach around. What has been done, or the lack there of, is reflecting poorly on his Olympic dream. Don't think it hasn't been noticed outside of the city.
Do you think getting a new Supt. is going to change anything? There will still be a shortfall of coppers, no contract, shit cars, and shit equipment. It'll just be a new face on a poorly mismanaged Daley run entity. You have fucked the Mayor and you didn't even know it.

By the way, I would never call Tommy Byrne (AKA Tom Thumb) a "Morale Booster". He's a jerk who thinks nothing of himself, and does nothing to show his gratitude or appreciation of those who do all his work for him.
If he's a candidate, then that's not saying much.
As far as Mauer? Yes he was ONCE know as a Policemen's Policemen until he got to HQ. Yes, he did take care of those who did most or all of his work for him, but you had to be a part of that click/circle. If not, your not!
End of story, as either of these choices would just turn back the clock and turn up volume on the clout dial. As anyone who knows these two, they're promotional and unit favors have made them what they are today.
At this rate it wouldn't surprise me if Bill Nolan was the next Sup. Just don't give him a company credit card or handle cash.
Lets hold up a second. I don't like J-fed, and Maurer or Byrne, it makes no difference. The problems can't be fixed with a new boss. Except for Cozzi and some other discipline shit what will be different with a new boss? Our contract situation won't change, that's not Weis, thats Daley. There won't suddenly be more coppers will there, and a big part of the problem is not enough manpower. Will Maurer find money for cars and radios? Will there be carbines for everybody. Maybe one of them gets rid of the carbine power test, and that would be good. But you will still need to get the carbine from somewhere. Would a new supe suddenly realize that our airport security is a joke? Ok, maybe he will. But where does he get more people to beef it up? Remember, no manpower. The slowdown in activity, whether real or imagined (and I think it's real) is tied to more than hating J-Fed. It's about all this shit-contract, manpower, equipment, car cameras, GPs, all sorts of problems. And speaking of that, I guaranfuckingtee that Maurer or Byrne or Ramsey or whoever, WILL NOT remove GPS or in car cameras. That shit is here to stay.
J-Fed leaving (and I hope he goes) would improve morale for about a week. Then everyone would realize that we are in the same boat, but with a new skipper.

it is definatly possible that he may be gone. this would be a good idea for the city. if they get rid of weis then the contract would be stalled at least a year. there will be a new sup and there would have to be new meetings, suggestions, arguements, etc.. if this happens, dont bank on seeing this contract passed for a long time.. just another way the city is going to save money and make alot more interest on that stockpile of money for our next contract.

Is JW the real reason for this "slow down"? The real issue is lawsuits, the media and societies ignorance in what we have to deal with. SCC did a real disservice if the media believes that JW was the problem... and not the other issues.
We need umbrella laws in place to protect us from false lawsuits, a media that is on our side which in turn will change the public's perception... than we can do our jobs (a contract wouldn't hurt either).

Not that I personally know either of the aforementioned names, but I have been a district Supervisor on the scene of a few incidents with the Tom Byrne who is still on the job, and he was an OUTSTANDING boss! A class act who treated us at the district level with respect! Something 99% of the current bosses would never do. This would be a HUGE morale boost in my eyes and I've spent 100% of my 23 years in patrol, in a district on the street. I'm just sayin'.......

Bullshit. if you do not the academy, walk into the front office. Ask to speak to the ADS and tell him you want out. He will gladly honor your request. There is a waiting list of personnel who strongly want to work at academy. Ask around, and learn how many changes so far this year. Several had the balls to ask and he granted the request. You are needed on the street. Let an officer who can teach replace you. You lack the courage and will bitch on the blog instead.
I feel really safe with J-Fed in Charge of Homeland Security. He can't even run the police department let alone be responsible for millions of people. God Save Us All.

I met with uncle Tom and told him all the bad things some of you people said about him. He was not mad because he knows well he was a gem of a boss to all people that worked for him. Yes, the mayor asked him to be our leader and he is thinking about it.

Aw, don't be a hater. After all, FLOP endorsed the goof Steve Robbins for pension board. He takes trips to hawaii on us AND voted to give the mayor's nephew Vanecko millions to invest in Olympic real estate. And if you don't like that choice, you can vote for FLOP's treasurer Capparrelli who is ALSO running for Steve Robbins's pension board spot. Capparrelli already gets $2,000.00 a month of our dues for doing exactly NOTHING. Capparrelli and Robbins are proof positive that FLOP has its finger on the pulse of the department. They know EXACTLY what they are doing. Trust me. Hahahaha

Just becuase he was thee police, does not qualify him to run the police department at any level. He also cannot see what is happening everyday around him. One got a Sergeant and a Lt dumped for asking why she does not report to work on time. Look at what time the First Deputy's staff comes in an leaves.
