Obama "Detail"
So everyone sticks together and the Department prepares to break it off in their ass:
- To the know it all that made a comment on the new and improved SOS: There was no one brought into SOS, they detailed 28 PO's and 5 Sgts to unit 543, that's Detached Services, they will take over guarding Obama's House, since the city was trying to coerce the guys from Special Functions who were on the detail into working 12 hour shifts and follow the schedule that the Mayors' Security does, they wanted them to give up any chance ever of filing a grievance to get the same pay as the Mayors Security Detail gets which is Sgts. Pay. The whole crew refused and were sent back to Special Functions as of 0600 hrs on Sunday 12 Oct. Now rumours have it that the City is now going to dump them all to districts ,along with Commander Franklin who should have been able to get them all to sign the form, These kids were working 12 hour days and had their days off canceled, the city did not want to give them 25 more PO's to work the detail, then the Overtime would have been eliminated, so now that me and the other Sgts. and the PO's made plenty on OT the city is all pissed off.
Sounds like an efficiently run City operation, doesn't it?

From what I heard, those PO's are not providing any specialized security work at the house other the blocking off the street. All work is done by the Secret Service and these PO's are just there for show in their uniform. How about you tell the guy continually posting here and bashing those who took the detail to calm down. These guys where offered a nice different schedule other than their current 6 on 2 off and the took it. Just like everyone scrambling to figure out what district to work in next year to match a schedule to their liking, this worked for the PO's who took the detail.
Your guys did not want to schedule and made the choice. Looks like the department made a good managament decision for once with going with the 12 hour schedule in elimating all the OT your guys made. Good for them to rape the city like that for a few months but do not blame the new guys on the detail for some something and run to the union like they are forgoing the contract. They are not doing the same work as Security Specialist and just becasue they work the same schedule, they should get the same pay?
So if the comment posted is true what you basically have are 25 P.O's and 5 Sgts WHO ARE SCABS! The guys from S.O.S. do the right thing and tell the city "No we won't bend over again and let you stick it in our ass once more!" and the city cries, take it's ball, and goes home. Don't forget some of these "kids" were pulling in up to 66 hrs a week overtime. The select few including office personnel who never received "training" were allowed OT by cancelling their RDO's. Try not to cry poor until after you cash that huge paycheck...100-185hrs a period without having to lock anybody up or go to court....not bad work if you are one of the select few who get it.

No matter what the polls say, Obama will not win. Too many people across this country will not vote for a black, especially a black radical such as Obama. What is the grievance?
They were not making speicalist pay in the first place. The department says the are going to switch the detail to 12 hour days. Work three days one week, work four the next. No overtime. The are not working extra hours and telling the city not to pay them, they are not working the extra hours. Let me repeat that, they are not working the extra hours!
These "trained" guys had racked up so much OT because the detail was not fully staffed and they worked beyond their tour of duty. The city realizes that large amount of OT that they are paying out and come up with a 12 hour schedule that has the PO's working the correct amount of hours in a period with out having to pay OT and to fully staff the detail.
What is the grievance? You asked for specialisy pay that you where not getting in the first place and the city says no, so you want to grieve?
A couple of years ago I asked for captains pay because I felt I deserved it even though I was not a captain, should I grieve it?
Again I ask what is the grievance?

You heard wrong. The POs were getting great overtime due to cancelled days off and the city tried to detail them in order to fuck them out of their OT. They further tried to fuck them out of the SGTs pay that being detailed to the security detail should've gotten them by having them sign a waiver. They refused. If they get dumped for it, its a shame. The department wants more but isnt willing to compensate unless youre a clouted phonecall baby who knew someone to get onto the mayors detail.

Thats the thing,Ray: the city was trying to screw them out of the overtime by detailing them to 12 hr days, thus getting rid of the overtime. Then they tried to get them to sign something saying they would forego the Sgts pay that comes with the Mayors Detail position.

Overtime is not an option in this deal
First of all...Shame on any PO who would post here that they don't give a fuck about what happens to Obama. I would like to believe that any PO here would do his utmost to protect either of the presidential candidates.
Would we want anything to happen to either candidate while they are here in Chicago? Would that enhance or further destroy an already tarnished reputation we've had to endure for the past two years or so? It's hard to believe that a post like that would see print here. What's up with that?
From what I've heard here at headquarters, the guys and ladies at SFS did a very good job of performing their duties over in Hyde Park. Lots of atta boys from the Secret Service, and more than a few complimentary phone calls and letters about how professional everyone over there was. It wasn't planned that the SFS people would work 12 hr shifts, they just didn't have the bodies to do 8 hr shifts, as was expected. Headquarters knew about the manpower problems, but did nothing about staffing extra bodies.
Detached services decided to take it over because of the overtime involved, which was the fault of the higher ups who refused to provide the unit with more bodies.
DS threw a wrench into the works when they didn't want to pay the people who were working the detail the same as their people. A waiver was passed around, but no one agreed to do the same job for less pay. Detached took the thing over Sunday, and a lot of the people they brought over to work the detail are supposed to be the same people SFS asked for, but couldn't get. Some people up here have their nose bent out of shape over this, but like everything else, it will blow over.

I don't agree with the tone of the first post, but the officer who wrote it is absolutely right.
Officers cannot agree to work outside the collective bargaining agreement just because the city offers them a schedule that they like.
The officers who agreed to this schedule without FOP approval are taking away an overtime opportunity that would otherwise be available for other officers who want the overtime.
The FOP's most important role is to preserve our EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITES, especially overtime opportunities. If the city can get around the FOP by offering individual officers perks (like a 12 hour schedule), then the officers that take those perks are subverting the FOP's power to protect overtime opportunities for other officers on this job.
Some people on this job want overtime and some people don't. The city doesn't want to pay overtime. The city is going to offer the officers who don't want OT special "perks" to work jobs that the city would otherwise have to pay OT to accomplish.
This is one more example of how the city is going to split this "union" right down the middle.
Someone posted that the desk in the 015 District leaves early, they do it in my district as well.
What is the reasoning that the desk crew only needs to work 6 hours per day?
It is not as if they need to get up and go to court the next morning.

someone posted earlier and got it right- nothing lasts forever on this job. if you got a good thing going, ride it out as long as you can. when it's over, it's over. and the folks at special functions got some good OT, but the run is over. that's just the way it is.
i'm glad they had their ride, but i don't feel bad for them losing it. 99% of the people on this job never had a chance to ride that gravy train. open that detail to everyone (like the housing or cta special employment) and i'll get behind the push for OT and sgts pay or whatever it was they were getting.
in the meantime, they had their run. now some other guys get a chance to have a sweet spot. that's the way it is around here.

So when the City changed Narcotics from a Fri/Sat or Sun/Mon day off schedule to a schedule with rotating days off the can grieve with the union? I do not think so.
Number 1, this is not an Overtime Program worked on PO's days off. The PO's are detailed and are working a full work period. Believe me, if for some reason they work OT (that is hours over schedule to work in a period) they will be getting OT pay.
Number 2, Just like a few months ago Narcotics was switched from FRI/SAT and SUN/MON to RDO's. Can they grieve that switch, no.
Number 3, There is no special skills needed to work the detail. The PO's are standing on street corners. Think of working the Taste of any Fest. So the arguemnt of them getting Specialist pay is stupid or next year when I get detailed to the Taste I want sgt pay for the day because I am performing the same functions

The training they have received,by far exceeds the training the mayor's detail has. The City is just trying to get away with paying less for the same job done by the mayor's detail. First, I WAS NOT PART OF THE SPECIAL FUNCTIONS PEOPLE DETAILED TO BO'S HOUSE. (how fitting BO...he stinks)
Second, the officers assigned to "dignitary protection" (as the CITY calls it) were having their DAYS OFF CANCELLED--NOT BY CHOICE.
They DESERVE OT if their days off are cancelled. They did not sign up to cancel their days- they were told they HAD to work.
Third, they did not ask for the "SGTS PAY" (-what the P.O's assigned to the mayors detail get).
The city came to them told them "you are going to work the same hours as the people assigned to the Mayors detail BUT WE want you to sign this little piece of paper stating you won't ask for the same pay. GET IT JAGOFFS, IT WAS THE CITY NOT THE P.O.'s!
Fourth, the P.O's assigned to do this were SENT BY THE CITY TO A STATE CERTIFIED DIGNITARY PROTECTION COURSE. THE COURSE WAS TAUGHT BY STATE POLICE AND THERE WERE POLICE THERE FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
Finally, someone argued a point about Narc/G.I. having DOG's changed. Yes the city can tell you your DOG is being changed. I don't think they can force you to work a completely different schedule...ie 12hr days. They can change your DOG. But I admit I am not completely clear on that. HOWEVER, lets say they can change their schedule like that....then lets say the remeining P.O.'s in SFG said so long. Well, they are the ONLY people left that are trained on our CIRT equipment (Crit. Incident Response Team aka hazmat) and the gas teams (riot control gasses) other than S.W.A.T. Maybe thats why they have not all been dumped as of YET.
I'll end with this. Rather than BASH A FELLOW OFFICER find out what the fuck is going on first. You should realize that 90% of the time (if not more) the city is trying to screw us. Those P.O's that signed up for this gig are SCABS and the reason the city gets away with sooo much bullshit. You may want to go back to school. High school may help you to understand book keeping. I own my own business son and never would I pass on extra profit. My taxes go down I don't give it to you I give it to me.

Not-surprisingly, your comment makes no sense, I said I didn't know but they were able to hold on to there businesses, besides, businesses are suppose to profit, that's why they are in business, it's called Capitalism. If Obama wins, we will begin to see Socialism rammed down our throats and more of your profits will go to those who don't profit as much as the others, Obama, Biden, Pelosi, and Reid won't have it any other way...

You forgot to mention the 4,775 U.S. soldiers and citizens who have given their lives fighting terrorists in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom since 9/11.
