We're "Motivated"
Police superintendent is denying a news report that officers in his command are working the streets less aggressively out of fear of being second-guessed by him.
Jody Weis told reporters Saturday that despite what some people may say, he sees officers who are well supported by their superiors and highly motivated.
According to statistics provided by police and an internal document obtained by The Associated Press, serious crime is up but arrests are down in Chicago. Officers are also seizing fewer guns and frisking gang members less often than they did before Weis arrived.
Police have denied that any deliberate ''slowdown'' is taking place. But some members of the department have blamed low morale and fear of investigation by Weis.
- Officers aren't "slowing down" per se. Chicago Officers for so long did way more than was asked of them - clearing the corners, surveilling street level dope operations, aggressive traffic stops. Now there's no manpower that enabled officers to maybe hold themselves down for an hour to figure out the dope corner (who was holding, where was the pistol, etc) and the dealers know it. Everyone is still responding to priority jobs in a timely manner (at least the ones who always did before) and citizens aren't being shortchanged in terms of safety, but all the other stuff? Everyone is stepping lightly because one single so-called "civil rights violation" is going to land you in a world of shit.

Everyone seems to forget the common denominator here In car Cameras=slow down---Officers are afraid to make stops now because of the cameras--eventually i think, the officers will figure out how to use the cameras to their advantage but for right now their afraid of any confrontation which the camera may pick up so they choose not to do any stops
Its not a work slow-down its simply observing what has happended to some coppers who broke their ass for this job and because of one beef, were stripped and sent to call back to rot. Supt, if you want guys to get behind you-look at some of these beefs that are total bs and release those coppers to get back out on the street and do their jobs. Take a look at some of the screwed up investigations that were signed off by your General Counsel! A good long hard look ! You came from some type of IAD background from what we hear. If the shit doesnt add up send it back to the new boss over at IAD and have another investigator, one less ready to screw working coppers, and one who has experience in being the working police-to re-visit. Just a thought...

I wouldn't call it a slow down I would say I am much more carefule about following the rules and respecting the rights of every citizen. I write a case report for every person who wants one. That silly RD# and piece of paper makes them happy it takes no time at all and I dont have to worry about them complaining about police service. getting an event # for stopping by the park and a school is a silly numbers gamebut it kills time and Im a team playa. Yeah I usually gas up the car for the next guy after my lunch. I do take my personel and I do a little fot patrol to talk to the citizens on the beat. It's a busy day so often there is no time for movers, parkers or arrests.
I used to be motivated..I used to have fun of this job...I work 99 everyday...and in the ghetto,,,am I going to make TS or get out to search the 5 Ms on the corner when I know I may not get an assist ASAP as the close cars are on jobs?? having worked ghetto(backlogs) and northside(no backlogs) There is a huge difference in the workday between the two...The manpower is crazy low, the call volume higher(dont forget the added calls from the pod watchers) every day its run run run...We too have GPS but no PDTS, junker cars, no pool cars. I feel like someone has forgot the CPD-crap equipment, no officers, no support,,,will the last one out please turn off the light????

BULLSHIT!! Every district is getting in car video and audio along with GPS. This has and will continue to stop P.O.'s from working. 011 is a home to workers and look what this has done to thier numbers. Not to mention all the other problems surrounding this department. They want to turn CPD into a video surveillance suburban style department. Then that's exactly what they will get. Hell i might even learn how to write a DUI.

I was checking my arrest recently from last year compared to this year. Last year, I was averaging about 2-3 arrest per week. Those were signed complaints and on views. No TVB's. Not counting furlough, came out to about 120 arrest. It's almost November and I have a little over 40 arrest and that includes TVB's. I stopped clearing corners because these fools feel empowered that they can do so and know there is a new sheriff in town (J-FRAUD). I am not a dog just protecting my pension and trying to avoid jail. Enjoy what you have created J-FRAUD! The stats don't lie.

Officers are being more careful, taking their time, trying to be mindful of new laws, department guidelines, Racial Profiling, Cameras, etc. Gone are the days of Hurry Up and do it fast and slip-slop. Too many repurcussions for mistakes by P.O.'s now, with a good chance the incident could be recorded on Video, so caution and disgression is being used by the Troops. This is good and smart thinking. Be Safe out there, Call for Help if needed, and Remember, No Tombstone Courage, take your time out there, be safe, do it right. If unsure, call for clarification from a Supervisor. It's a new Era in Policing, so be fully aware of it.

I agree wholeheartedly.
I now provide a higher level of police service by allowing the citizens the opportunity to speak out about their plight.
I then carefully and accurately propose a solution for their concerns and advise them accordingly.
As such, the citizens experience greater satisfaction of their interaction with police officer(s) and I keep from getting beefed on.

A couple years ago, 022 had a fund raiser with the money going to this bullshit operation. At the time I was putting my daughter through college with no assistance because we are white. WHAT A SCAM!
There is no work slow down. This is 21st century police work on camera, video, audio, GPS with an extra special attention to citizens civil rights and more camera's!
Curfews and School absentee's are our friends with a contact card along with them. STATS and NO REVENUE! Document your probable cause, out late, not in school!
Traffic is discretionary but what the hell a parker is a parker if it is flagrant, ignorant or dangerous. If you are in ghetto this is a no brainer!!! ie (hydrants, dbl park, block alley etc...)
A mover is good, it adjusts drivers behavior, especially when you stop them and let them go with a friendly "Drive careful" if they have a license but do the TVB when not. We need a license, so does everyone else!
Never code out a job w/o a thorough preliminary investigation! You get written up for pinching a murder suspect 1/2 block outside the district and will take a day for no police service. Conduct thorough preliminary investigations and document everything as required. I like the non-criminal case report, covers everything!!!
Don't forget to inspect your vehicle, wash it, gas it up. It's the only car you have, none in pool!
2 personnels and 1/2 lunch are contractual rights, make sure you use them every day.
Keep up the fine job officers!

There are lots of black AND brown parents out there sending THEIR kids to college also without any financial assistance whatsoever.
Why would anyone NOT want to see a black kid go to college? Don't you all get tired of looking at them in the back of your squads?
I'd rather see minority students in college or a trade school than "just hanging out." We all know what road that takes you.
Out of all the nonsense I've contributed to (fund raisers for fired coppers who were wrong as hell about what they were fired about), I would have no problem buying a bag of POPCORN to help put someone through college. But that's just me.
Talk about De-Motivation....
Queen Housecat of the 20th District moved demotivation to a new level by going to all three roll calls and flatly telling all concerned that she asked for the ten hour pilot program and that it was going to work, and if they didn't like it they could go somewhere else.
Seems like all those years hiding out in Personnel didn't hone her personal skills much. Anyone who really didn't want to do much is pretty much shutting down on her now.
Sure, there have been some problems, compounded by the in-car cameras and the general feeling the Department not only doesn't care but is actively out to get you, but Queen Housecat's obvious disregard for the interests of her officers, her lack of any police knowledge, her lack of respect for the personal lives of her officers, and her drive to make this work to her own advantage, even if it is on the backs of the POs she disdains, will all come back to bite her in her house-coddled tush next year.
Yes, even some of the working police are beginning to scratch their heads and wonder what the hell is going on. And, no, there is no great exodus from 20.
Wonder what that means?

Give us a decent contract and have our backs for a change. This is not rocket science you dumbasses! Arrests are down, activity is down, morale is down, and crime is up; yet you continue to bite the hands that feed you? Open your fucking eyes and do the right things.
