- Off Topic: Has anyone read the FAX on the Washington D.C. Detail.
You have to have a scheduled 1,1a,1b, or scheduled baby furlough (not C/U ETC..) in January. Your TO/FROM has to be in by 18 November. First the majority of people with 1 a 1b Furloughs are coppers with 2 years on the job, and second most districts aren't picking furloughs til later this month. What are they thinking. No Supervisors? No mention of compensation?
They want a To-From by tomorrow, but no one has picked furloughs yet. We're assuming Dress Blues, pay your own way? Good luck getting a hotel room within 50 miles of Washington at this late date. And flying your gun out there? Another nightmare. And this passes for intelligent thought.

Off Topic here but I just wanted to let everyone know that the city is much more safe tonight because TRU and the Wanna-TRU Mobil Strike Force were out and about and took 3 counted them myself 3 crack pipes or some kind of drug paraphanalia off the streets tonight. Thats what we ladies and gentlemen 2 ELITE Units to get all those pipes and misdemeanors off the streets. Did a unit history a few times tonight, not one felony all BS.

I was out there for G.W.'s 2nd inauguration and other than sitting on a cold plane for 4 hrs it was good. We did wait a long time after the inaugerration for a bus to take us back to the hotel. It's an experience everyone should do once. Yeah it's the first bi-racial president, so everyone is going to make a huge deal about it. I just hope he is a good president. He's already been painted as some type of messiah.

Just a suggestion, don't even bother volunteering for the D.C. detail, not a good idea. I'm a fed in D.C. and everything down here is booked just like SCC said. There's going to be at least 1 million estimated to show up. Also if you find something it's going to be an arm and a leg.

What's so hard about flying your gun to Washington? I thought you could do whatever you want so long as it was packaged properly, and declared. Or you could spend $15 or so each way and ship it FFL and pick it up when you get there.

Worked last inauguration, and it was a fuckin blast. Put up in a good hotel, got to see the sights around DC on my time off. Got a stipend for food, got paid time and a half on my days off (it was not furlo time back then). It was a good time, but I would not take a 1, 1a furlough for it. If I had a couple of years on the job I would definitely do it again.
We played cards in our room, drank until whenever. It was really fun, the only downside was TOO many CHIEFS and not enough INDIANS, nobody could make a damn decision about anything, but luckily Ramsey was in charge of the DC police. If you are getting a shitty furlo anyway..I suggest you go..they pay for it, and you only work one long ass day for the whole trip. Dress warm, it was freezing.
No Thanks. I am going to use my furlo time for what it was intended for.

How about quarters in some near-by military bases, like Fort Bellvord,Virginia. With access to all the facilities, NCO Club, stores it might not be too bad.
I can get almost any furlough I want excluding full 8, 13b and I still take a 1a furlough. Who would want to work in that miserable weather.
Why whore yourself out? Cops always seem to be just rent-a-badges. Sell yourself to be a store, bank, or mall guard. But remember while working for these outfits the city does not have to cover you in a shootout. Liability is on you.
Just about all of the brass ass exempts who make these dumb decisions have never really worked patrol. They made their phone call, jumped on their golden slide to a nice job and don't understand at all what the fuck we do in patrol. And if some of us coppers are in the KMA club, they are in one, too. They don't give a rat's ass about being criticized AS LONG AS THEY KEEP GETTING THEIR FAT GOLDEN CHECKS! How in the hell are they going to make sensible decisions if they never did the job themselves. OT: SCC are you aware that the 6th District Appellate Court has recently issued a ruling that the administrative blow for a police officer CAN be used in a criminal prosecution. The ruling is 25 pages long and the link is provided below. A sad day for law enforcement, however shouldn't put ourselves in that position.

If you don't get to go to DC go to the Caribbean, get a tan, RELAX!! There are a lot of cheap trips out there right now, one for almost any price range.
I was there in '05. Everything but the transportation was great. We had a lot of fun. The people in DC were terrific and treated us like kings.
However, Neil Sullivan chartered planes that only Ethopians could sit in. We didn't have enough cargo space and 75 pieces of luggage had to be Amtracked back to Chicago. Got two extra days off with pay because no gun/vest.
Busses were always late or not there. Planes were always late or not there.
Drank a lot....Good thing.

An article from Fox tv in DC has the police there saying that the outside officers will be flown in the day before, lodged by them and be working 18 hour days.

In '05 CPD chartered it's own airplanes. Everyone assembled in an abandoned hanger with no heat or working plumbing. The braintrust told p.o.'s not to use the bathrooms. Option 2, piss outside the hanger? The airplanes were as cold as the unheated hanger. Who dresses in thermal underwear to fly?
We did not need to check our weapons because they were C.P.D. only flights.
D.C. was great, the money was great.
Although after the innaugural parade we were left on the street waiting for a charter bus hours after every other department was gone.
If you've never been to D.C. its definately worth the trip, especially on the Feds dime. I just hope the dept. does it the right way this time.

Well, the Supeintendent's police group P.O.'s are both eligible to go.
You know Bartuch and Brennan, they can only get a 1st or 2nd period furlough.
Oh, I'm sorry I forgot, they are the only two PO's(and I use that loosly because neither has really been the police) that are in that unit so they can pick whatever furlough they want!
