Laborer Union Caves

  • The Daley administration announced today that it would reduce the number of proposed city layoffs by 145 positions.

To close a budget shortfall, Mayor Richard Daley had proposed laying off 929 city employees.

The council is expected to vote on Daley's budget proposal on Wednesday.

City officials said the reduction in the number of layoffs was the result of negotiations with labor unions that represent city workers.

The city's laborers agreed to take an unpaid furlough day.

So every laborer taking one day off saved 145 jobs? How much is Shortshanks saving with not maintaining the fleet, not hiring, not paying for new ticket books since no one is using the ones they have?

Look for this to be used as a club on other unions. CPD is already doing less with less so we don't see how he can get blood out of this turnip.

This is one of the old Dick Daley tricks....let the media know that the city is broke, go on TV and cry about no money and then having to lay off 1000 workers.

Then, Dick saves the day afew months laster when he comes to a new agreement that will save jobs and money.

He is SO full of shit.

If they started a new incentive program (lets call it a bonus program) in which a 5% bonus was paid quarterly to writers of parking tickets? Would you start writing tickets?

I would. Figure 25 tickets in a book. $60 ave. fine = $1500 Gross to the City now 5% of that to the copper is $75. Write 1 book a week for 13 weeks in a quarter would get you a check of $975 minus taxes. Approx $675?

Hell if they did that it would be a financial windfall to the city.

I am surprised marky mark and his crew have not asked us to do the same! The city has not bought anything that is needed for cpd in a long time, but yet daley (pass the envelope please) sees fit to let j-fed install gps and camera systems in junk cars more money wasted! and daleyinc crime family still is riding high!

Heard comments in the media that there is talk around city hall that now is a good time for an additional gas tax to help the awful city finances. They added that T. Stroger, aka Erkel, says he has already been looking at that.

Somebody would just mess it up with phony citations. Plus, your end would have to be a percentage of fines actually PAID, and to track all the numbers, they would create a whole new expensive bureau, consisting of a chief, a deputy chief, a commander, three captains, six lieutenants a shitload of sergeants, and a bigger shitload of clouted daughters of exempt white shirts, all with take home cars from the top on down, and housed in a brand new facility, hence, the money is already spent, but they would create it anyway, even though there is no gain to the taxpayers. They would call it CAPS, Calculating All Parking Sums. Chief Lynette Helms wouldn't even have to change her title.

You'd have to turn in your balls, so as not to offend Missy's delicate sensibilities.

NO and it gives the impression of impropriety, kind of like you are writing the tickets only to get the bonus. That is not the way it's supposed to be and would never fly.

What about his 26 + Bodyguards who make Sgts Pay? Are they required to give up a day or two? Why does he need so many bodyguards, and fleet of vehicles? This doesnt include protection detail at his home, on his block, or the City Hall Police Detail on his floor in his office. It's good to be King!

Its all about brain storming ideas. This idea may lead into something else?

We are living in the most technologically advance city in the country. Your on camera a majority of your day. Obama says "CHANGE", and thats change to me. The exempts are always looking for change and new strategies, and that would definately be change, and a new strategy that Daley would love. He would love the winddfall of cash, but wouldnt like having to share with the PO's. Remember Vehicle Impounds in the '90s? We will agree something has to change. We the working PO's seem to get jerked around on a regular basis, and so often that we are just used to it.

This is why the SCC board is so necessary these days. This board is not the voice of disent, but a slap of reality. This board brings to the forefront inequalities in the Administration of Daley, the clout system, the stuff that just makes you scratch your head and say WTF???

Believe it, or not this board has sent fits and shivers up the chain at HQ. They troll the boards daily. SCC keep up the good work.

And thanks go to you, for your insidiously dishonest suggestion of 'improving' the city's police 'productivity', via your proposed 'incentive' scheme.

Sounds a lot like something that the infinitely, all knowing fucks at city hall would dream up.

After all, it's all about the money, right?
