Cops Rescue Fire Victims

  • Chicago police officers tonight rescued several residents from an apartment building on fire on the West Side that left a 70-year-old man slightly injured.

The fire broke out Friday evening in a third-floor apartment in a building on the 2900 block of West Fifth Avenue, said Fire Department spokeswoman Eve Rodriguez.

Police Sgt. Michael Stack said he and his team were about a half block east of the building on a narcotics investigation when the officers saw the third floor of the building engulfed in flames.

At least four rescued from the burning building and only minor injuries to all involved. Excellent job Officers.

OT Squad car in 009 involved in a rollover accident at 45 / Wells, responding to another officer calling for help. Uninsured driver runs stop sign and t-bones sqaud car. Big thanks to all the cars in 012 that helped out in blocking the street. Although the ambulance decided to detour from the route last minute, I heard the ride went very smoothly. Also thanks to all the CFD that responded, you guys did a great job of pulling him from the car and getting him to the hospital quickly. The good news, both P.O.'s should come out of this with no permanent injuries. Please be careful out there guys, the only important thing is going home in one piece once the tour is over.

(OT IMPORTANT) I have never visited this site but was told about it by my brother! In 1980 I came on cfd and I am now a paramedic, what occured last night at midway airport was to say the least a mess! An offender grabbed an officer and attempted to choke him out, and kicked him so hard if he did not have his vest on it would of broke his ribs or worse! The bigger problem is that the new boss a female lt who has no clue how to be a leader has cut staffing way down, before she became the boss the officers were allowed to supplement the manpower. The lt came on board and it is now a critical situation, and the commander from what I am told will not be a "leader"either! My brother is a cpd officer with 31 years and we talked about this situation as he works at O'Hare airport and he said they are allowed to make sure enough men are working so if help for an officer is needed they are there! Why is the boss at midwayy allowed to do this? Just another example of someone who should of never been promoted great job hope next time an officer is not tragically hurt or killed due to her gross negligence!

OT: Friday January 2nd the layoffs begin. City trade unions will again agree to even more unpaid furlough days. Police and Firefighters unions are standing ground against it. City will not even touch them. Trade union members who are maxed out will be forced to retire or laid off. I was going to be a fireman but I got a great job in finance. I'm non-union and I can't believe how these unions sell their members out to the city and send their members to the wolves. Signed: Someone in Finance.

OK, all of the trade unions could care less about the members that work for the City of Chicago. The city does not contribute to the medical or retirement programs that the unions have the only money that the unions get from city employees is their dues, by privitizing the unions get anywhere from approx. $15 to $20 per hour that the private contractors employ on city projects, that my friends is why Daley will privitize all of this work

excellent job officers!
OT - ok, i just read about the new "Gang Enforcement Unit" which is supposed to combat gangs city wide and will be made up of 400 officers. Where are these officers coming from? - Are they reassigning district gang teams to do this or are they pulling bodies from districts to man this new unit? Also, this article says they'll be operating from the 5 areas...there's already a few area teams - midnight gangs, saturation, gun, gang teams, not sure if i'm missing other area teams. Will this effect TRU, MSF? Seriously, enough with all these bullshit units/teams! how about they hire more people!

Guy was supposedly driving at high speed. I heard the first hit into our building, which I knew was something huge as this place was built in 1930 and very solid. Then I heard a second, third hit. Smoke pouring over our building, flames reaching 3rd floor windows. Quick response by CFD/CPD saved this place and businesses.

Someone told me today that a few witnesses pulled the guy out from his car. Otherwise, he would have died...
