The New Fleet?

No wonder we're driving hunks of shit with 120,000 miles, no brakes, no floors and no working electronics. We're saving money for these:
  • Carbon Motors will be using the nine-city 2008 Pure Justice tour of the U.S. as an avenue for unveiling its all-new E7 purpose-built police car.

The E7 hasn't even secured its final name yet - Carbon Motors will be relying on the law enforcement community to choose a name for the vehicle ahead of production. Nevertheless, the car is looking more like a real product that could actually come to market, and judging by the reception of the police community, the vehicle will be on at least some city streets in the near future.

The tour to promote the car kicked off in Chicago next Monday, October 14, offering the first public glimpse of the car. The reveal at the 115th International Association of Police Chiefs convention today gives the best view of the car yet, thanks to the new video of the car, which shows it inside and out in real-world trim.
Diesel powered.

Dont I wish!
My car has over 125,000 miles on it. Figure fleet spent a few thousand on the new GPS and computer mount and a PDT that requires a restart of you even switch between PCAD and Clear.

Id like to clean the movable partition on the cage. The dirt has gotten so dark it now looks dark gray and you cant see thru it. How in the world can I do that with out bringing tools from home to do it?

Hey fleet wouldnt it be cheaper to built wash racks at the gas pumps I could drive thru than to use your well connected approved car washes that do a crappy job anyway?

Spotted this beauty a couple weeks back on the web...cost $300K each I think?...bad timing for Carbon Motors with the economy as it is...
if CPD ever got one, it would only be for J-Fed to drive around and show his Fed buddies.

It's a great concept, the 1st of it's kind that isn't a standard sedan retrofitted for Police Work. But the money to purchase these vehicles went to the GPS Systems they're installing on Pool cars w/ 160,000 Miles. State of the Art Department still handwriting case reports in 2009?

Can the U.S. Army give us a pair of M1A1 Abrams tanks for Districts 007 (south) and 011 (west)?

Fleet mgmt. could paint them sky blue with the CPD logo. If they opt for camouflage, paint them black.

Hey SCC, just watched the vid linked to your thread on this concept car. I like it! Doubt we'll see it here in the near future, but it is definitely worthy of consideration.
One question though...why did they continually "fuzz out" the ford logo on the Crown Vics shown in the vid? Did they really think no one knew what make those other squads were? Are they that stupid?

Attention citizens: YOU ARE GETTING FUCKED IN YOUR ASS, this police department isn't prepared for shit and Daley is stealing your money and we have old shit equipment.

The only intelligent comment ever made by Hillard when he saw the chevy squades was "get that crap out of here I don't want our officers in that. Same would apply to the photo of this shit box. If you can't make a better car keep making the ford if, only for police use.
Bring the fleet back to the Department with the safety of our people in mind, also bring back someone who cares about the members they serviced.

i think we all should be driving around in 1972 beetles. the heat works well and there is plenty of room in front of vehicle to store gear. efficient on gas and built like tanks, you can drive it into the chicago river and it will float across to the other side. the only drawback is there is no way to turn the heat off so it could get a little rough in the summer.

I heard that there is truth to the story of incompetent installation of GPS equipment in squad cars. The project was to be completed at end of November. Now, they must repair the damage. Outside vendors brought in poorly trained installers. Forget state of the art squad cars. How about a car running with a pdt, brakes and a heater? Who cares about 100,000 miles. Pie in the sky thinking. So much for leadership.

expensive car = expensive parts = expensive repairs = retraining for fleet = money = daley = we keep crown vics with 155,000 = daleys family in the loop making connected money = police officers remain :(

fuck that noise... bring back the ass whoopin' 1969-1970 dodge polara/plymouth fury police pursuits

122" wheelbase
440 super commando engines rated at 375hp (actually 420+ mopar tended to underrate) & 490lbs of torque, 0-60 in 6.3 seconds or better, built like a tank and very roomy... who am i kidding??
best modern era police car was the 94-96 chevy caprice 9c1... detuned corvette engine rated 260hp (actual @ 275) 0-60 in 6.3 top end of right around 150 mph... a fast rugged car that cpd never had (bad enough coppers were wrecking the 89-92 caprices & those were basically truck 350's with big torque so father daley was NOT gonna put police behind the wheel of a full tilt highway patrol car).

but those of us who worked cta special during that time fondly remember the "rocket chevy's"

...pool wagon 211,000 miles!

Actually a 72 beetle didn't have heat like cars do now. The only heat you get is from the engine when the car is moving. In the winter here in Chgo while you wait at red lights all the glass frosts up as you wait for the light to change. I know this because I had one in my 20's and I only lasted one winter with it. It was a cool car though.

Read somewhere that the entire law enforcement vehicle market was about 40,000 vehicles of all types, cars, SUV's, motorcycles, trucks, etc. in a good year. Cars about 15,000.

What the automakers do is run the police product line at the end of the model year, clearing out the line before shutting down for maintenance and model change-over. All of the parts that go into the police models are production items. And nothing really special. Heavier shocks, radiator, alternator, a few suspension pieces and that's about it.

Since it end of the year run, the price on the cars is fairly low. This thing would have to be cost competitive with the current models.

What about parts support? Warranty service?

Gas is down to $1.79/ gal, Diesel still about $3/gal. There goes the cost savings.

And the Carbon still has to run the EPA 50,000 mile emissions certification test run, which takes about 1300 hours and still has to be crash tested and certified.

How many are they looking to sell per year? And with the current tanking of the capital markets, I suspect that Carbon Motors will be on the scrap heap pretty soon.

The guy that mentioned rebuilding the caprice, Orland Park had that done by a chevy dealer in michigan, years ago. I dont think they do it anymore, they want to sell you a piece of crap 9C1 impala or tahoe. Orland went with a mix of impalas and the crown vic. The crown vic is the lessor evil. The dodge charger has taken over the suburban police depts. I dont see any tested for chicago, shortshanks must not know anyone selling them.

um lets see city started using impalas like 10 years after everyone else, semi auto pistols 10 years after eveyone else, still don't have rifles most departments started shortly after the La bank robery(like 15 years ago), asps,tazers,etc.... We are never I repeat never getting these.

Trouble with the Dodges is they ride too low to the ground with all of our potholes and speed humps. You think the impalas are bad....Try a speed hump in an Intrepid or something similar, there would be NOTHING left of that car after one tour.
