Budget Hole Plugged!
Mayor Richard Daley has scheduled a 10 a.m. Tuesday news conference at his office, where he is expected to provide details of the deal. Aldermen are scheduled to consider the deal, which requires their approval, at a meeting of the City Council's Finance Committee on Wednesday.
Daley administration officials opened sealed bids today from private companies that want to operate the city's parking meters, the sources said. Officials declined to say who submitted the winning bid and how much that bidder offered.
But the city is counting on $150 million from the deal to help plug a $469 million budget deficit this year and in 2009, according to administration officials. And the administration expects further proceeds from the deal to help pay for city government for several years.
- No more parking meter collections and the theft that comes with it. No more repairing broken meters or replacing obsolete equipment. A private company would inherit the responsibility and the revenue, which has grown by 16.5 percent since 2003.

It looks like RA 023 Gangs is crying his way off of the team because he is afraid of working in the ghetto. How ironic that his dad, LAPA Merit Sgt of CTA special, always preaches about being the "real police". Yet, his son has never stopped a gangbanger in his life and the daughter in law has worked in the office her entire career. JOKE!!
FORGOT TO MENTION THAT THEY BOTH LEFT THE JOB TO BE BUSINESSMEN IN VEGAS (He was a car hop) They both came back, he went right back on to tact, she went right back into the office GREAT FOR MORALE, REWARD THE PRODIGAL SON Not the one who stayed and worked, read it in the bible.

There are several LAPA merit Sgt's assigned to CTA, which one is this post refering to?
that will just pay for the alderscum raises nothing more. Let the olympic comitte see how much of a shambles this place is.
Quick OT Alvarez sworn in as ASA vowing to reduce gang crime. LOL. What is she going to leave 26 and cal and arrest these gangbangers POS? No. Voters in this communist state do not know what a ASA's job is.Are the puppett strings too tight to go after the midget? Thought so.
another 150 million for the little leprechaun to stash for his olympic dream. he sells the bs to the public that he is using it to plug a budget gap but we know better. the skyway windfall and now this will be sunk into the loser airport project and the olympic black hole. this city has got to be one of the most corrupt in the world.
I can only imagine which political favor/clout friend of Shortshanks will get this deal. I see many problems with this idea...Gota Go!!
Coming this summer:
Nude Sunbathing On City Hall Roof!
For $20.00 a day!
What a deal Mayor Daley!
What else can the city lease? Our first born child?
Does this mean people will actually have to pay the meters on Madison in 011. That will be great.
What about the budget hole next year?
When is the contract coming?
OT but...
Why not a backround check on these "bodyguards" and see who they are connected to? It would make great press for the city rags and totally embarass all of them! $100,000+ per body and 1000s of hours of OT! Everyone is "wired" to some union, alderman, son of....etc! Be fun to see the "qualifications" of all these world class OO7s! 6 figure doormen!
Do you think that if I cut a check to the city for a couple of thousand dollars upfront, for future fines, would I be able to ignore all traffic laws in Chicago??
More like butt hole plugged.
"....nude sunbathing on City Hall roof..."
Excellent! Count me in!! Please give me enough notice so I can get my wax job.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
mr. SouthSide says---
I had a dream about Anita Alvarez. It involved a hat dance, tamborine, Modelo, and Cuervo.
I'm still sweating.
If Alvarez wanted to reduce crime she should have these CHICKEN SHIT supervisers charge a murder. These pussies want a convction before they will approve charges, and it is only going to get worse.
I watched Stroger just laugh in our faces at her swearing in ceremony. The first person who should be charged with a crime under her regime should be Stroger. Theft is a crime right? If anybody in that office had any stones they would open an investigation on Stroger.
Speaking of Alvarez what was that militant piece of shit defense attorney Grant doing at her swearing in ceremony? Are they already cutting deals?
My guess is it will be less mismanaged by a private company than by the city.
did you say butt hole plugged or budget hole plugged?
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
ka jing, ka jing, ka jing !!!
more for the MACHINE
no skyway, meters, airports.
do the citizens real care that Shortshanks is SELLING this city away.
the olympics will be a bust as they usually have been (except LA) and then what happens. Shortshanks will finally be gone & no city is left. enjoy you liberal jerks!!!!
How does one then protest a broken meter?
Who will issue violation citations?
What is the procedure to appeal a violation issued on a private meter?
Who is going to oversee all this?
What revenues will this generate for other entities?
So many unanswered questions!

They pretend to be poor, but they are L-O-A-D-E-D. Moved all their stocks into real estate right before the crash. Plus, he is always arresting white people for dope. What a jerk.
On the news they said that the private company can hire people to write tickets for these new meters/pay boxes. We're not doing it, so I guess he'll find someone who will.
Meters will cost $1/hour now................
I see that Chicago Heights has made small amounts of pot a non-criminal offense. The person caught will go to an administative hearing instead of to court. Just like Daley did with tickets and red light cameras. That way the county gets less. Can you see Shortshanks trying to do this to help the ciity reap more money?
Time will tell

Silly details, just silly.
Lets see, we get 1.16 billion.
This years deficit is 469 million.
Three years of a 469 million deficit is 1.4 billion dollars.
So where does he get his money to cover the deficit for the last 72 years of the lease???
And don't forget, the tribune article that says meter rates will QUADRUPLE over the next 5 years.

I think that's great Milwaukee does this and %90 just pay the fine.
It's gonna be like the PPA (philadelphia parking authority)where they'll ticket everyone, everywhere and tow every car in a tow zone, bus stop, and boot every car with more than two unpaid tickets. Just do your shopping outside chicago.
When are people going to realize that Mayor Daley is clinically insane?
The crazy bastard -- babbling, sweating, jerking -- has been spending money like a drunken sailor on silly banners for lampposts, hundreds of miles of steel fencing that serves no purpose, ditto hundreds of miles of "drainage grooves" in alleys that drain nothing, thousands of speed bumps, fiberglass cows, and $50,000 glass bus shelters that can be destroyed by one kid with a rock, not to mention about $900,000 in the yearly budget for inflatable "jumping jacks" for block parties and events -- BUT HE NOW CAN'T AFFORD ADEQUATE SNOW CLEARANCE, even after having suddenly sold off the city's parking meters in his typical "Destruction Of Meigs Field" style, without warning or public comment. The first time citizens hear about it is when they wake up in the morning and it's all done.
What is the International Olympic Committee going to make of this?
Doesn't Daley remember what inadequate snow clearance did to Michael Bilandic? He survived the flooding of the Loop on his watch, but with this he may have finally found the one thing that will convince the public that he is genuinely mentally ill and should be removed.

He doesn't care, he won't be here much longer.
Can't you recognize a rat, gathering all his swag, preparing to abandon the ship?
This is a move to shrink the government and to enable the free market -- it should be applauded by conservatives.
Back in my day the conservatives were a party of limited government, personal freedom, and free market principles. Now it can't get enough unquestioning faith in our federal protectors and government spending of all kinds. We need to put down the National Review and become libertarians.
There is no denying that the Chicago government is horribly corrupt and the police department deserves more support. But taking away the enormous government subsidy given to drivers paying far sub-market parking rates should be applauded by real conservatives.
did I read the wrong paper??
Shortshanks NEPHEW is connected to the group that bought the parking meters????????
