Daley's Miracle

The streets are cleared! All praise Daley and Picardi! They had it all planned. We just had to wait for a 60 degree day at the end of December and everything would be fine. Oh ye of little faith, you should be ashamed to doubt that our great leader wouldn't have the streets cleared in time for the New Year. On to criticizing the pothole situation:
  • The Chicago Department of Transportation also saw an uptick in reported potholes -- going from 200 to 300 reported last weekend to 500 by Christmas Eve, according to spokesman Brian Steele. CDOT has increased the number of pothole crews -- to 11 from about five.
Perhaps we should look into crooked asphalt contracting and road building? We mean, how is it that Europe can build concrete highways that last for decades and we can't seem to find a contractor that can put together a road that lasts two winters? And we won't accept the argument about "harsh" winter conditions. That's BS. Wisconsin builds better roads that Illinois does. Do they add cheese?

This is without a doubt the worst year we've seen for snow clearing and potholes in a long time. The mismanagement of the entire City and not just the Police Department, is appalling. Is there any hope?

from the linked scum times article:

"Mayor Daley said Saturday that salt is another factor in breaking open the streets.

'When it snows and freezes and melts and freezes, you get more and more salt, that opens the crevices in any piece of concrete,' said Daley. 'So we are getting more calls.'"

So, now it's the salt's fault?

It couldn't possibly be the fault of this cock sucker not spending the taxpayer's dollars on actually providing the services that the taxpayers are paying the fucking taxes for, could it?

If Wisconsin has such great success with "cheese" as an additive to their road building recipe, you can bet that "Alpha Rat" Daley has given orders to omit the cheese & save it for him to split with his "Rat Partners". Ashphalt crews are a Shitcago job/$$$$ source in local goverment. If roadways were built to last longer than 1 year in Shitcago, just think of all the layoffs for Daleys soldiers !!!! Rat Daley & his gang do not want roads to last longer than a year. It's the Shitcago Way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Smile Rat Richie !!! you & your boys are on candid camera. Can you say "The Feds" ?

Well you can't blame the Asphalt companies about pot holes. The city only patches those things, which is not a fix. Foundation failure and water seepages can not be fix with cold patches of asphalt. Cold patching are like bandaids a temporary fix. Pothole have to be dug out, widen, coarse aggregates should be used for foundation, followed by fine aggregates up to 7 inches from the surface. The area then must be sprayed with bituminous spray, followed by 4 inches of B.A.M., then 1 inch of binder, finished with 2 inches of surface material. You want these holes fix, who going to pay for them????

I'm just happy not to see the huge salt stacks at intersections.

I used to dread the first salt storm of the year, when the city, expecting maybe a quarter inch of snow, would have highly-paid contractors waiting at every intersection while trucks laid a base of salt on every artery and side street. My truck was salted in once, and it took me and two buddies an hour to shovel away the salt that was burying it. How much did that cost?

It was kind of charming though to see the eastern European ladies out gathering the salt for their cabbage pickling, while their children made salt-men in the front yards.

Yeah, I'd say the end of the Bilandic 'errah' has come none to soon. Maybe they can find a better balance than what we had last week, but for Christ's sake, the snow response for the last 20 years has been absolutely idiotic.

And when I was in Lombard Christmas eve, their streets were in about the same state ours were. For all the ridiculous hype mostly from tv types, the snow response was hardly the worst thing we've seen. I agree with you that the bigger issue is concrete v. asphalt. Thanks for rying to steer this towards something constructive.

true story, same thing in 008.. an off duty police officer was involved in a roll over accident at 45 and cicero where the car was flipped and p.o. trapped inside. streets were a skating rink. bt car asked for salt truck because the street was extremly dangerous to drive on and because cars were sliding almost hitting the police and fire crews on scene. oemc came over the radio and said that there is only one...yes i said one truck up in the entire city in case of an emergency....and of course it was not availible.. the p.o. was ok and not to badly hurt

Yes, TC, it does. Every day Police Officers are hit, kicked, spit on, shot at and more. The courts do not treat this seriously and for the most part, Police Officers don't even bother reporting it. I mean the being shot at too.

I am sure the average citizen believes this is what we get paid for. It would seem that the average jury believes it. Now ask yourself what happens when we finally get tired of it, and stop being proactive and just avoid situations where this may happen. What do you think will happen when the Police get tired of the short end of justice both in criminal and civil trials?

Here's a miracle in the truest sense:

Thanks to these dispatchers, a chicago child had a Christmas. Question is, will their kindness be re-paid by CR numbers and the loss of their jobs?

Ya know, J-Fed and Shortshanks can't have kindness running anywhere in their department because it will ruin their reputations as hard dictators who don't give a shit! To the dispatchers...you guys have big hearts. Thanks for caring about a citizen like you did!

HOMICIDES BY RADIO ZONE (CPD + NYPD COMBINED)

Of the 101 combined precincts/districts covered by 48 radio zones in the NYPD (35Z/76P) and CPD (13Z/25D), based on homicide totals, it appears that the West Side's Zone 10 (Dists. 011 and 010) has the dubious distinction of arguably being "the most violent police radio channel" in the nation.

Using identical criteria, NYPD's most violent channel is Zone 22 which includes Brooklyn's 73rd (Brownsville) and 75th (East New York) Precincts.

He's just another in the long line of people sucking off the Police Pension while collecting another City Paycheck. There's a news story if the Media gave a damn.

OT:

Who is responsible for the security and parking enforcment in the District/Area parking lots?

Why it is the Disrict commander of course!

Take alook at the 005th Dist/Area 2parking lot. Now keep in mind that the building is stuffed beyond it's designed capacity by a least 20%.

Now the lots are clearly marked that they are for police and court personel only, signs posted at every enterance.

Come to the lot on any week day, but get there early! We have people parking 4 and 5 cars in the lot then getting picked up by vans for the ride downtown to jobs that have nothing to do with Police or court business.

We have a private security company that uses our lot to park thier fleet of security cars (each car taking up TWO spots so they dont get scratched). Then they pick up the security car (fake marked police car) and park thier personal car in it's spot again taking up two spots. Now looking at thier perosnal cars, with no City Stickers and expired plates!

How about some TICKETS and TOWS?

Or maybe this is a favor for a side job (pay to play) you know the Chicago way.

There is a white Toyota Preis paked in the front lot that has not moved in three months. There are numerous cars in the rear lot that have also been parked there for months. Offenders cars that never got towed employee's cars that just stopped running, whatever that case may be.

Now I wont even get into the idiot that plowed the lot after the last big snow and just plowed and buried every car including the squad cars. Some of which could not be used until after the big thaw.

You would think that after all of thefts we had in the lot incuding the theft of numerous M PLATES off of the police vehicles parked in the lot. The person who is responsible would take some action.

NOT!

Remenber in the early sping when they had the big chase and Police shooting with the guys in the Crown Vic driving around with stolen M PLATES form area 2 playing Police.

Now if you work 3rd or 1st watch when is the last time you have seen the lights on in the lot? Maybe 5 or 6 years ago, Maybe???

Hello D/C, get off your dead ass and do your job!

The reason we fdon't buid roads is two-fold:

1) Cost- a contractor could bid the job out and do as is done in Europe but would never get teh contract, the lowest bidder wins, and it's not going to get done that way for sure, it will be status quo.
2)Jobs- if it keeps breaking down you have to fix it, hence, it keeps people employed, which is what they want.

Call R-man to repair car so I can down it for repairs. It has 130,000 miles.
No Pool car. Had to down another car to pick me up.
BTW they had no spare tires at area either. For those inquiring.
Got to ride around in a Sgt's car, wow, those are nice only 30,000 miles. The computer works and no camera.

Now the Scum- Times says in Mondays paper that it is time to get rid of all the city and state pensions because they are taking all the tax dollars and supporting patronage. Ok I guess that all of the retired CPD can go on welfare and move into the projects. Or go ala Soylent Green and just take whatever we want. Bust a drug dealer, all the cash is yours along with all his property including his girlfriend for your pension fund, 10% off the top on all tickets we write.

12/29/2008 11:59:00 AM

Unfortunately we will see the end of pensions in about the next ten years. It will apply to new hires only. We are grandfathered in by state law. The waste that goes on in government now is unreal.

There are 15 people on the Illinois Tollway authority making more than $100,000 a year. What a joke and a half! Look what a suburban teacher makes and the ridiculous salaries of administrators in that field. It all is coming to a head.

Or..... you can raise taxes and keep it all going for a little while longer. Now that's the American Way!

Hi people, Missy here again.

To this pesson who said "Saw Tommy (Chicago Clout)Byrne on the news today."

My Uncle Tom (Rtd) works for the mayor only because he loves our city. He is not paid very much for the 80 plus hours he works a week.

The mayor is spending a few million to make the Michigan ave bridge woderful again, like it was in 1920.

Those anything our great mayor has done make you people happy? Most of you people on this blog are lucky to have a job working for the mayor. I can say for a fact, most of you slugs are over-paid.

You want a contract people, go work for "Great America", they are hiring !!! You people just want our poor mayor to drop. He is always working for the betterment of this city and yes people, you SLUGS o.t.j.

Our beloved mayor cannot plant a flower withour you babies crying. It is all about "YOU" people, you care nothing about our dear mayor or this city.

When was the last time you worked a full 8 hours people-SLUGS?

I am on my feet 9 hhours a day writing parkers for our beloved mayor. Ira, my former ACLU husband (Yes, we made up) said it. Fire all you slugs and hire a private security agancy that the mayor will find pleasing to him.

Well people, take care and be safe.

Well, he scared Daley enough to push him out of town, instead of giving him superintendent. And he told the man it was because his ideas were too radical (all subsequently implemented by Hilliard). He told another boss it was because he thought Ramsey would use supe as his springboard to running for mayor.

But you keep smoking YOUR shit and go live in denial. All Ramsey's been doing the last few years is strengthening his resume. Come to think of it, so has Vallas.

How can two bucks win you ten grand plus?

How about a "SUPER GHOUL POOL"? Take the 101 districts or precincts that make up the CPD (25) and NYPD (76). Based on before and after the stroke of midnight (local time) gives you 10,201 possible combinations (101 x 101 = $10,201).

By confining it to just Chicago, you only have 625 combinations.

Make blind draws from two separate hats (last of 2008 and first of 2009).

If you draw the 44 in the Bronx for the last of 2008 and 011 for the first of 2009, you're looking good.

Meanwhile, the CPD and NYPD are running to a plus 500 photo finish for midnight tomorrow. Side bets on which city gets "the murder crown" for 2008? Barring a massacre, it's going to be thisclose.

I never understood the logic behind it keeps people employed. As long as there are streets that need to be torn up and redone ,there will be jobs. It is not like all the streets would be rebuilt overnight or even in 1 or 2years. Sure it will cost plenty of money and be an inconvenience, it would be better than large potholes every year. if done properly the streets can be repaired.
Let us not rollover and accept the status quo. We must do what is right and not care about loyalty ,what powerful people and those close to us may think of our actions.

Is this true..? Does stuff like this happen and not get reported in the press/media??

TC - Not a cop

Yes, TC, it does. Every day Police Officers are hit, kicked, spit on, shot at and more. The courts do not treat this seriously and for the most part, Police Officers don't even bother reporting it. I mean the being shot at too.

I am sure the average citizen believes this is what we get paid for. It would seem that the average jury believes it. Now ask yourself what happens when we finally get tired of it, and stop being proactive and just avoid situations where this may happen. What do you think will happen when the Police get tired of the short end of justice both in criminal and civil trials?
