Grau Goes to SA Office
The man who would have been superintendent:
Former top cop Hiram Grau, who was hired by Chris Kennedy to head security at the Merchandise Mart, has been snagged by new Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez.
• • Translation: Wasting no time in shaking up her management staff, Alvarez has hired Grau as her new deputy chief investigator for the narcotics special prosecutions division.
We'd imagine with the recent upheaval on the CPD end, we might see more than a few high profile defections to the State's Attorney's office. After all, a City and a County pension? Watch for some big names to follow Grau.

Alvarez has made another not-so-public change. Since she has taken office, there have been virtually NO felony DUI's charged. The commentary from her people is that she doesn't believe in that law and therefore does not want it enforced. charges are not to be approved.
Could it be that many of those charged have been illegals? And her constituents have put pressure on her not to charge, else that new ICE office at 26th street will snag those illegals who come through there on felony DUI charges?
Since when do we get to pick and choose what laws to enforce? I thought we were the instrument of the law, not the arbiter of the law. If it's on the books and you don't like it, you lobby to change it, but you can't decide not to enforce it.
But, this is the kingdom of Daley. And a 'sanctuary city', to boot. And I guess SOME people do get to pick and choose which laws will be enforced. And which won't. Thanks, Anita.
What's the difference from the old bunch of retired CPD to the new bunch of retired CPD?

Grau deserves whatever he gets. It was disgraceful the way the city allowed Weis to push him aside. As we've all seen for about the past year now, Mayor Daley didn't "trade up" at all in hiring a man so lacking in the skills needed to run the CPD.
Alvarez gains, Daley gets the mess that CPD has become rubbed further in his face.
Grau? Nice guy, but who are we kiddin. He's is clout heavy, has always been. So, Superintendent or not, he wouldve been taken care of, and then take care of his own.
It must be nice to have political clout. Grau is a nice guy but merit all the way. The more things change the more they stay the same.

The chief of the trial division MKM hadn't tried a felony case in 14 fucking years and was not capital case qualified because she refused to take the training.

To the GOOF who is talking stuff about Hiram Grau, I grew up with him and worked with him in the Gang North Days, Hiram is a great guy, outstanding Cop and his daughter is NOT on the job, it's his sister, she is a Sgt. who was on disability due to a seroius injury to her hand and wrist, but as the economy changes and if you don't konw about disability 3/4 pay you don't get raises, you get 75% of what you were at when you went on disability, both of the Graus are class acts. I guess it's just another person who knows nothing.
