Secretary of Education

  • In 2007, only 17 percent of eighth graders tested at or above grade level in reading in Chicago Public Schools – the school system administered by Arne Duncan since 2001.

President-elect Barack Obama on Tuesday tapped Duncan to become secretary of education in the upcoming administration.

Duncan, hailed by Obama as a reformer, said he would like to take the lessons he learned in Chicago with him when he moves to Washington. “I'm also eager to apply some of the lessons we have learned here in Chicago to help school districts all across our country," Duncan said after Obama formally named him to the job in Chicago.
Of course, if by "...the lessons we have learned here in Chicago..." means caving to the Teachers Union on each and every issue, throwing tons of money at schools to increase salaries and budgets while presiding over decreasing scores and plummeting graduation rates, then the US is in for a rude shock.

That word "success?" We don't think it means the same as it does in Chicago political circles.

Not to mention the amount of thefts of laptops, books, and other supplies. The Chicago public schools have more crime than many western states(robberies, thefts, battery, assaults). Some schools have a couple hundred arrests a year. I've got it ----throw more money at it.

I will preface my comment by stating that I am not a supporter of Arne Duncan:
The lack of success by the Chicago Public Schools has more to do with the fact that the children going to these schools are living in homes that are nothing more then welfare factories. When your mother (the fathers are never around) is more interested in sucking on some dope dealers dick for a rock then she is about how you are doing in school, and your father is either in jail or waiting to go there and laying up with another bitch: What do you expect? Dumb illiterate kids is the answer.
I say fuck building schools just build walls with razor wire tops. I would be willing to bet that among minorities in the Chicago Public Schools the graduation rate is less then 10%.
We do not need a Secretary of Education we need a warden.

Don't forget CPS's inability to pay vendor's bills on time, to the point that most vendors require a check in hand before service will be rendered. Some locations, the checks have bounced and require credit cards preauthorized before someone will respond.

Surely if the quality of schooling in the rest of the country declines, Chicago's education stats when compared to the rest of the country will look better?

CTU President Marilyn Stewart is a joke. Stewart wants smaller class sizes, but flip flops for home schooled saying those teachers aren't qualified. How many of her "qualified" teachers want to teach learning disabled, behavior disordered and other kind of disabled students?

Unless it has been changed, Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins (Chief Education Officer) was mentioned as a Duncan successor. Eason likes to push daycare and Headstarts as solutions to high school drop out rates. On a 2006 ABC 7 special on why young Black males drop out, Eason kept repeating daycare and Headstart.

Easondown the road! Wheeeeeeee!

I think we all know that its not Duncan's fault that we have such little idiots in our school system. Its the parents fault, and theirs alone. Since most schools in this nation are not in shit urban areas his job just got easier. When you put a kid in kindergarten and he doesn't know his real name, colors, ABC's, numbers 1-10 or even recognize simple words you have a child that was not taught a damn thing by the best educator the child should have...HIS PARENTS. You could spend more $$$ on these kids and it wouldn't matter. To all you shitty parent out there try spending some time with your child and teach them something, but that would actually require you to give a shit.

What organization never publishes an income report that says where the money is going? What high Ranking Former Department member should be ashamed of making a 3 figure pension from the Dept. having other jobs as a consultant making 3figures and still takes the money from the organization he helped to create off the backs of police officers?

About 50% of Chicago kids are incapable of success because nobody in their families has experienced any in several generations. Chicago and other cities populations have devolved to the bottom. Don't laugh, because its a contagion. Its spreading into the rest of America as families cease to exist.

The destruction of families, starting with the black family, is the greatest crime the Left ever perpetrated on this nation.

Guys like Duncan just give cover to guys like Daley and Obama who know the truth.

I have an African-American co-worker (mid-50') who went back to her school (CVS) to reminice during a school day. She came back shell-shocked. She said it was a free for all. Fights going on in all the hallways. Kids with blood gushing out of their faces. CPD running all over the place. She said she would not have believed it in a million years unless she saw it with her own eyes. And how many high schools do we have in Chicago? Duncan and others stand up in the new conferences as if they are actually governing students who are human beings. If the public could see what went on they would be appalled and I guarantee they would not want one cent of their tax base going to these savages.

It amazes me that Police Officers (if you are Police Officers) seek to tarnish the reputation of a man who has provided us with a memorial organization that is second to none in this nation ... an organization that has been helping police families in need since it's formation ... I challenge you or any man or woman to step up and say what have they done lately out of the goodness in your own heart for someone, anyone ... It is easy to get on this blog and tarnish the reputation of other police officers because you not have achieved the success that they have for no other reason than hard word work ... now having said that some have slipped through the cracks and achieved undeserved success ... certainly ... and this has been the age old problem whether you are police officer, politician, or in any other buisness. But there are those who have become successful through hard work. I, for one work for myself and the men and women that surround me ... I work for the little boy who wants to play catch with his Dad in front of his house ... or the little girls who want to jump rope or ride their bike down the street ... the homeless men and women who's children have abandoned them and they have no medical care and are eating out of dumpsters ... the families that want to raise their children in a safer environment ... the elderly ... my family, my friends ... thats who I work for ... we can all blame Daley, Weis, and make any other excuse we choose ... but in the end it really comes down to what have you done lately?? to Make a difference ... I do not need a pat on the back from Jody or anyone else to do a good job ... whether we like it or not, or believe it many people do look up to us, a lot more than look down on us ... so think of it next time you choose to write something negative ...

The Chicago Police Memorial is a well meaning scam. Face it. Nothing more and nothing less. You have P.O.s working two jobs, their wives working to send their kids to a decent school and the P.O. contributes to the Memorial fund because it is the right thing to do. Then you have the head of the memorial fund earning as a pension more than the P.O. and the wife combined. Then the head of the memorial gets paid extra? Ok, it is all on the legit.

My kids go to CPS. A fine school on Chicago's NW/side.
It enables me to save my ass off for High school and College.
A school and it's education is only as good as the home re-enforcement.
Homework, reading and working with your kids when they need help.
If they don't get the BASICS by 2nd grade they are shot!!!
We don't have a National School problem, we have a National parenting Problem.
1. Your kids are NOT your friends! They are your responsibility, they can hate me, but they WILL BE EDUCATED! When they are educated adults they will understand. ( I Did)
2. Home and Family is what they get, make the most of it! Teach them basic right from wrong!
3. Keep them healthy! I love a cheesburger but you can't eat shit all day! Fruits, veg, balanced diet. I got a 7 yr old boy who has six pack abs. All muscle and he never stops moving. Chips, Pop and candy are treats, NOT dinner.

Sure, for a measley $90.00 a month (union dues) you can join the union that doesn't give you a full pension until you work 34 years, no tuition reimbursement, unpaid maturnity leave (unless you use your sick days), and have to deal with the idiots without the ability to discipline them. But at least you can strike, which by the way you don't get your full pay for either! Go ahead and join dumbass!!!

A reply to 12:37.....

1.) You don't know how much time or $ we give to charitable organizations.

2.)You would be shocked to know what some of us who raise these questions have achieved on this job.

3.) Your dramatic tale of "working for that little boy", et al is juvenile and sophomoric. 99% of us work for the right reasons. We don't need to lectured.

4.) Nobody said the Memorial doesn't do good things. Its not unreasonable to ask for details about who runs it and what they spend.

5.) They strong-armed everyone when they started this thing, you can't deny that. Exempt wannabe's soon figured out that major contributions were the ticket to that gold star. Lots of these guys dropped heavy $$$ and were then promoted. They even displayed the checks on the wall in the Supe's office.

Wise up.

It isn't his fault, that is the breakdown of society, and apologist liberalism that has stopped requiring any responsibility or morality from minorities in the name of promoting their secular humanist agenda of "diversity". What IS his fault is the hypocrisy of not pointing out the true cause of failure of the system, the above coupled with the inane protections afforded sub-standard teachers that don't care. But hey, that is the Democrat way, what else is new? Pander to the filth, anything for a vote.
